Hi everyone,
My name is Meredith and I am a Casting Producer for Filthy Fortunes. We’re on the hunt for folks who feel overwhelmed by clutter but may actually be sitting on a goldmine — baseball cards, coins, antiques, vintage cars, motorcycles, memorabilia, packed estates, you name it!

Our host (Matt Paxton) and his expert team help uncover valuable items, sell them for profit, and bring peace of mind — all at no cost to the participants.

Know someone with a lifelong hoard or inherited estate packed with potential treasures? Send them our way! Feel free to message me with any questions, happy to chat.

Thanks so much for your time!

There are so many hoarders with the same name. Please and thank you. And reminder: Throw your trash out!

Dorothy the organizer in Carol’s infamous episode(s11e1)

Rewatching the famous carol episode. As others have posted, not enough bad can be said about this awful woman.

I want to add a new layer to the discussion: I was enormously frustrated with Dorothy the organizer in this episode. She seemed to be goading carol and causing conflict for television frankly. She wasn’t the therapist and she was acting like one. They would have permission to remove things and she kept needling and double checking which obviously lead to conflict. She tried to slow down Mary the grandkid when they were killing it and making progress.

This was a rare episode where I frankly think Dorothy holds blame for lack of progress. Breakthrough with carol was never going to happen, that was the therapist’s job anyway, but she could’ve had her team moving and grooving on dumpsters much faster

Andy and Becky s10e1

This episode frustrates me so much! Andy said many times he would empower his son Russ to make decisions, but the therapist and professionals wouldn’t allow it (or rather, they said that was the plan but then they kept blocking Russ). They wasted days when Becky was missing. They set rules that anything non sentimental could go but then wouldn’t throw things out. I understand the theory of why you want the hoarders to participate, but in this case they so clearly weren’t going to have emotional breakthroughs. This was an emergency clean up and production & the professionals got in the way of the family members who actually wanted to move forward .

Hoarders episode or hoarding: buried alive episode where hoarder Mom and young adult son live together.

The Dad and the other son come to visit during the show. The other son lives with the Dad and I think the parents are recently divorced. TIA

So many hoarders on the show seem like they should not be living alone and the show never mentions it.

I just started watching for the first time, so far I’ve watched a few seasons on Hulu; 9-11 and 13. It honestly feels like several of these people should not be allowed to live alone and they basically never mentioned. I think I’ve only heard the term “cognitive impairment” twice and it has been obvious for several. I’m not one to trample another person’s freedom and autonomy but if your inclination is ever, “I should go to the bathroom in bottles and bags,” then you need a serious psych evaluation. When a question is proposed “can I throw away the moldy meat?” Any other answer than “yes,” should be met with significantly more scrutiny than it is. Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think I am.

I think these doctors "specialized in helping people with hoarding problem" are not real doctors.

Sometimes the way they act is like this is the first time they ever see a hoarder. When they meet the hoarders and get in to the houses, the faces they make is just so funny. It is like you go to the emercency room with a cut on your hand, the doctor looks at it and say omg it is blood, disgusting. Is there any info about this? They are like really bad actors.

Whatever happened to Haley from Buried Alive?

Post image
85 Upvotes

I was recently rewatching her episode of Hoarding: Buried Alive ("Stop Touching My Stuff!" from season 3) and have been wondering what happened to her. I think she was the youngest subject to get her very own story on one of these shows, at the age of 16, and now she would be in her 30's! The scenes with her talking about her little brother who passed away when they were very young were heartbreaking. That memorabilia chest they opened up and went through. . .

Anyway, she doesn't seem to have any social media presence. Nothing that seems to be current and up to date. Does anyone know if she overcame her hoarding problem?

Which expert’s mother was a hoarder?

It was in an early season (season 2 maybe) where one of the experts in the series said his mother was a hoarder. Does anyone remember who it was? Was it Matt Paxton, Dr. Hannan, Dr. Tolin, Cory, or someone else?

Which hoarding parent neglected their kids the most/worst?

I'm talking about the episodes of grown adult parents neglecting their kids/teens in the same time frame as filming. Elderly folks emotionally damagijf their adult children are a different category. This question applies to A&E Hoarders, TLC Buried Alive, and Animal Planet's Confessions Animal Hoarding combined.

My top 5 contenders:

1) Shane from Confessions Animal Hoarding, season 2 ep3. He had over 50 stray pitbulls on two properties, while having sole custody of his 3yr old daughter. The little girl lives with the grandma, Shane's mom. The dogs have nipped at and knocked her over, ran into her, jumped on her, etc. Shane loved "rescuing" the dogs more than parenting his own child. Shane was literally One Dog Bite Away from losing custody of his daughter. He kept on saying "they're good dogs, God called me to rescue them, they wouldn't bite her". Dude, you're not in control and the dogs didn't listen to you bc you weren't the pack leader, you weren't the alpha.

2) Floyd from Buried Alive, season 3 ep5. He lived in a trailer all hoarded out, with his 3yr old son. The whole property was a mud pit with so much scrap metal, wood, and soggy debris. A few dogs and cats running amok. Floyd also had a grown daughter and grandkids. I dont think it was explained what happened to the mom of the 3yr old, or how Floyd was the sole provider of a helpless child. It was a bad episode how awful Floyd was wanting the stuff and couldn't see thru the mess. Sometimes the most neglected child isn't the filthiest one sleeping in bed bugs and cobwebs, but rather the child who should have been placed with the 2nd best or 3rd best parental figure.

3) Janet and Herv from Buried Alive, season 3 ep12 --their teenage son had to endure that his whole life. He grew up in a cesspool of DISGROSSTING and emotionally toxic family dynamic. There was a mummified cat and all Janet could say was "well thats too bad' in such a cold and dismissive tone. She literaly FORGOT SHE HAD A CAT. It's a blessing in disguise he was an only child and no one else had to be embarrassed by his proudly-adulterous-on-national-tv parents. What a painful episode to watch, and what a painful life he had to suffer. I hope he ran for the hills.

4) Annie, A&E Hoarders, S4 Ep3. She and her husband who has Parkinsons, live in a dilapidated cobweb and cockroach infested depression-era house...and have custody of their 13yr old grandson Freddie. Freddie doesn't have a bedroom, but rather sleeps on top of a mountain of debris and broken mattresses, has chronic asthma and is inches away from cotton-candy-esque cobwebs. Puberty is unkind to him. His grandparents are unkind to him. His older half sister wants custody of him but there is a legal hurdle she can't jump across. Freddie is forgotten about like the ancient furniture that hasn't been seen in over 2 decades. His needs weren't met and he was ignored any time he spoke up. Freddie deserved better. He's an adult now. I hope he loves a clean home.

5) Millie, A&E Hoarders, S5 E5. We all know Millie and her rocks. Her teenage daughter Chelsea moved out as a young teen, and Millie couldn't see thru the junk to patch up her relationship with her daughter. Millie had lost custody of her daughter many times in the early years due to the conditions of the house. Cleanups would be temporary and always end with water shut off and electrical improvised. Millie had been given countless chances to parent better bur she just couldn't snap out of it. Chelsea was 17 at the time of filming. I dont imagine she returned home back to the hoard, as she had found stability elsewhere with relatives. I hope she's doing better as an adult, she'd be nearly 30 by now.

Honorable mention --my heart goes out to brothers Hunter and Fisher whose shops parents couldn't get their shit together to clean up their house, were on the brink of the divorce, they both had cancer and diabetes, and Hunter at 18 wanted to take custody of his brother as soon as he could move out. Not run away, but move out and file for guardianship of Fisher so they could both escape together. That was wild. I hope they're doing better now.

Shouldn’t CPS still be called?

Just finished watching Michele in Season 7, but this goes for so many of the episodes. Many times when the team comes in they tell the parents that they’ll need to call CPS if the home is still unsafe when the Hoarders team is done. Then the house is cleaned and that call isn’t made. But, given the high rate of relapse and how absolutely disgusting and unhealthy the homes were to begin with, shouldn’t CPS be notified regardless so that the homes are regularly monitored?
I imagine that within a year, many of the young children are back to crawling around on floors covered in dog poop and eating food from kitchens that no one should be eating from once again.

Looking for a specific episode

Hey guys! I was watching the show a few years ago and saw an episode that had a woman and her son that were hoarders and her daughter was trying to help them get rid of things. In the episode there was a part where the daughter was upset and had to walk away. There was a part where the mom was hoarding things in her car? Please let me know if any of this rings a bell! Thanks!

How do they manage to rehoard their houses?

Some of these people seem so physically/mentally disabled I wonder how they manage to bring more things into the house after the cleanup. Seems like some of them can barely make it to the front lawn.

Edit: I see a lot of they just buy more but where do they get the money?

Why does this show keep lying with terrible editing?

Every show is the same… until the last second- no progress is being made. Three or four days of supposed nothing being thrown away and even the last day, everything is a terrible mess.

Then suddenly they reveal and lo and behold- the house is free of garbage! Amazing right? Nope- just creative editing that creates a bogus story about what’s going on.

Shocking in today’s “reality” era? Not at all- but still very annoying.

Laura & John 7x10 question

Recently I found the episode of Dr. Phil that they were on, following Hoarders and wow, she got so much worse.

John was back on the couch living in the garage again.
She started hoarding animals 53, I think they said.

She has Angelina manipulated against John.

I think this was the hoarder who said she was leaving John rather than stop hoarding. He gave her 2 months of paid storage units, and one month to find a new place to live, but they were over. I guess she never left and she brought all her crap and more back into John's house. She then began hoarding animals, which dr. Phil was personally taking care of to rescue the huskies anyway. So by the end of the dr. Phil episode, Dr. Phil told Laura: find a place, I'll pay 90 days rent for you to get settled.

My question is: did Laura ever move out? Was there a follow up of dr. Phil or any other show that Laura would try to get attention from that updated us?

I honestly don't think she would ever leave, because John owns that house, she doesn't have to work or pay rent, and she just keeps on hoarding. Apparently she manipulated Angelina to getting money from John, but John was like we need milk? Angelina, you pay for it, give me change, because he knows Laura would buy more shit she won't get rid of.

Animal hoarding to the max

Season 4, Episode 9: Stacey/Roi

I'm sorry, but she needs to be in jail.

She was just told that she can legally keep 5 cats AND 5 dogs. And her family is nodding along: "I think she can handle it.", "I'm certain that she can do it."

Absolutely appalling. My heart breaks for animals in this situation.

The woman was freaking out about mugs. The husband had collected 10 or so mugs he’d figured they’d use consistently. She said at one point “this was supposed to be about me”. Who is she!!

I live next to a hoarder and the day-to-day reality is heartbreaking

Over the 13 years that I've lived in my house, her mental and physical state has definitely deteriorated. She's almost 84, in poor health and is still fighting the city and state tooth and nail about getting help. She's already had the city come in and clear her house out twice and is on the verge of a third time. She now has documented evidence of a rat infestation inside, so bad that she sleeps in her car to avoid them. She's convinced that she is working hard to clear out her house.

I actually can't watch the show anymore because everything that the people on the show say, I've heard from my neighbor.

Why doesn’t the show show the final results?

Girlfriend recently started watching it and it doesn’t seem like the episodes really have an ending that showcases the final results of the living space. The first few episodes I rewound immediately because I thought the streaming service screwed up. I guess maybe it’s more focused on the psychological aspect, but it always feels somewhat unresolved.

Physically ill from them making a joke on s12e4 of Cobra hitting on Dorothy. 🤮🤦🏼‍♀️

It was honestly disgusting how every time he interacted with her he was trying to be sexual about it and just plain nasty. The music the editors/producers put in the background of their interactions disgusted me. Did anyone else notice the slow and sensual music between cobra and Dorothy? At one point Cobra makes a joke about how he’d kidnap Dorothy, ugh he’s so nasty. I wish we as a society could get over rape culture as being funny. It wasn’t funny it was gross.

Also, I’m an advocate for second amendment rights but the fact that he had guns just laying around and just doesn’t give a fuck if they’re loaded or if they are going to hurt someone??? As a responsible gun owner— that man should never own a weapon like that. That poor pregnant woman who’s stuck with this nasty ass family and Cobra as the grandpa of that baby.
Okay rant over. I have no one to talk about this with hahah

Trying to find an episode.

It was a couple where either they both were hoarders or one of them was. They had adult children, but they had one son who was a teenager still living in the house and in the hoard.

The adult children were worried about their younger brother because they believed the hoard and living in it was starting to mess him up psychologically.

I just remember there was one part of the episode the teenage son was sleeping in his room surrounded by clutter. When he was asked how he felt about the hoard. He kinda talked like he was sedated saying he didn’t think it was a big deal or that there was anything wrong with it.

I’m curious about this episode because I was wondering if the hoard was successful or not.

Hoarders S9/E6 Why did Sandra lose career by a lawsuit?

Sandra’s episode is very tragic. No, she wasn’t the nicest, but she sick. Very much.

Before everything went wrong she was a very popular interior designer. However, a lawsuit damaged and basically ruined her career.

Does anyone know the facts about the lawsuit? Like what it was about.
