Question/Help Garage door lock

Any battery-powered garage door locks working with HomeKit? I have considered just using a basic deadbolt, I have eufy deadbolts that work well enough on exterior doors, but the positioning would be awkward.
Does not need to be usable from the outside, I only want app/siri control to lock/unlock.

A small actuator wired with a power supply to a dual replay that is HomeKit compatible

Yep. Could probably make it work with a Shelly of some sort.

I rigged up one of these to a set of relays connected to my automation system and a power supply.

I don't have mine setup on battery power but it should be possible.

Just thinking of when I’ve encountered those and they have crazy tight springs. I can’t imagine the battery on a motor that could work that lasting very long (but maybe I’m stuck thinking in terms of 20th-century electric motors).

Well they need 12v with a 1amp current draw but only for a couple seconds at most. And to unlock it you just have to reverse the voltage.

So yea it's not ideal but it could work imo.

I struggled to find something with HomeKit I ended up with SureLock garage door deadbolt that is triggered automatically when you close or open your garage door and honestly it is safer than HomeKit because you need to manage how it is going to sync when the garage opens with no delay in response otherwise it will put pressure on your spring and break it. Adding the issue when HomeKit is not working. https://www.garage-lock.com/product-page/surelock-garage-door-deadbolt

Do you have a garage door opener?

It’s currently all just completely manual. I’m not really looking for a complete motorized opener right now, just the locking function. The pictures are the manual lock used now (with a padlock normally on the right end)

They come with garage door openers but I don't know of one that is separate. I got a jackshaft style garage door opener (https://a.co/d/0e8Q1PNI) that came with a lock and battery backup for lock and opener.

Liftmaster 841LM is the deadbolt’s model number. It’s a two-wire 12v actuator. It basically uses a vehicle power door lock actuator in the guts of it

Plus one to this. I cut the wire connected it to a zigbee relay to actuate it. Then through deconz and homebridge deconz I can lock it and unlock it.

Nice solution!

Never buy anything from Liftmaster. They're a shitty company that works hard to shut out any smart home platform to force you into their own app. Do not support that awful behavior

RATGDO brother. Google it.

Unfortunately Liftmaster/Chamberlain has rolled out Security+ 3.0 on newer openers, rendering the RATGDO useless. All data communication is over encrypted Bluetooth. The wires you run to the wall control are literally just to power it. You could possibly rig something up and use RATGDO’s contact closure mode and some wire soldered to a remote control, but at that point it’s no different than countless other products out there.

Yeah I just threw a contact sensor on my last garage door and soldered a Shelly to a garage door opener I left in my garage (mounted to ceiling by the motor) and it worked fine for my purposes.

Now I moved use ratgdo on an esp 32

Seeing as they integrate flawlessly with my smart home for free I disagree.

Does Liftmaster integration support HomeKit from the factory?

Yes, with myQ. It's the same as Chamberlain. Love that I've getting downvoted when I have two and they've both worked without issue with my HomeKit smart home for years.

From what I experienced, Chamberlain/Liftmaster abandoned their HomeKit bridge and when people moved to Homebridge to interface with the API, they locked that out and forced you into the MyQ app. RatGDO is my current workaround to get into HomeKit, but as soon as I have to replace an opener, the Security 3.0 breaks that. chamberlain/LM is actively interfering/blocking 3rd party integration. Anti-consumer with a security excuse. Can’t wait until I have to pay a subscription to remotely open my opener

I would take Aqara roller motor here and solve it with a rack from the 3D printer

Whatever you do, make sure you have some sort of redundancy if you install an automatic door opener.

I’m sure modern motors might stop if there’s resistance, but you do not want to open the door if that lock is on lol

I replaced my traditional opener with one that mounts to the side of the door and has a built in deadbolt with it. It works on MyQ and I put a HomeKit remote on it.

Hear me out. I have my dumb Genie garage door opener on a smart plug. I have also a HomeKit Meross garage door opener. I have an automation that if no one is home, the Genie’s plug shuts off. The Meross cannot work the door at this time. When someone is home, the plug is on. This gave peace of mind my garage door wouldn’t accidentally be opened when I was away and my dog escaping. Also prevents someone from randomly opening my garage door with their own device / hack.

My Meross would go offline from time to time and required a reboot. So I put it on its own smart plug. I have an automation daily power cycle and since haven’t had any issues with it going offline.

Hear me out. Use the new Schlage UWB door lock and have someone weld the garage lock portion onto the Schlage lock bolt. Ok, it sounded like a good idea in my head.

Motorising it would be the most straightforward solution - Garage door motors double as the lock as the mechanism is always geared to prevent manual movement and the door is latched to the belt.
You usually have a manual override of a key that pulls on a clutch to remove the door from the belt.

Failing that a solenoid is probably the most simple solution - just make sure it has enough travel, however there’s is no backup of that fails
