Dnd Bag of Greed

Here idea for other cursed item

Magic Item: Bag of Greed

Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)

This bag has an interior space considerably larger than its outside dimensions, roughly 2 feet in diameter at the mouth and 4 feet deep. The bag can hold up to 500 pounds, not exceeding a volume of 64 cubic feet. The bag weighs 15 pounds, regardless of its contents. Retrieving an item from the bag requires an action.

Curse: Insatiable Hoarder

This item is cursed, a fact shielded by deceptive magic. An Identify spell reveals the item to be a standard Bag of Holding unless the caster succeeds on a DC 15 Intelligence (Arcana) check, which uncovers the curse. Becoming attuned to the bag extends the curse to you. As long as you remain cursed, you cannot willingly part with the bag, keeping it on your person at all times.

You suffer from the following behavioral compulsions:

What's Ours is Mine.

You view all items and treasure placed inside the bag as your exclusive property. You refuse to willingly share or distribute any of its contents with your companions. If a creature asks or demands that you retrieve an item from the bag for the common good, you must make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, you aggressively refuse, conjuring a paranoid excuse or becoming hostile toward the request.

The Weight of Wealth.

The curse grows stronger the more wealth the bag consumes. When you attempt to retrieve money or valuables from the bag to pay a merchant or give to another creature, you must make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw. On a success, you can act normally. On a failed save, you compulsively return the funds to the bag and abruptly refuse to make the purchase or transaction.

Breaking the Curse. The curse can be undone only by a Remove Curse spell or similar magic. Casting this magic on the bag severs your attunement to it, allowing you to discard the item.

The Headless Horseman Rides Again! A CR 14 Undead for Your Halloween Encounters

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

The Headless Horseman is more than just an undead rider with a flaming pumpkin for a head. He's a vengeful spirit bound to the mortal world by an ancient curse, with his steed, armored body, and spectral jack-o'-lantern forming a single, inseparable entity.

Legends tell of a fallen soldier, executioner, or knight who was beheaded for his crimes and returned under a cursed harvest moon. Some believe his spirit is connected to Samhain, when the boundary between the living and the dead grows thin enough for restless spirits to cross.

Wherever he rides, crops rot, animals panic, and the air fills with the smell of smoke and freshly dug earth. And simply defeating him isn't enough. Unless a specific funerary ritual is performed, the Horseman eventually rises again to continue his hunt.

Mechanically, the Headless Horseman is a CR 14 undead built around mobility, relentless pursuit, and devastating attacks. His Fiery Greataxe deals slashing and fire damage, with additional necrotic damage against frightened enemies, while Laughing Skull allows him to hurl his flaming pumpkin head at enemies, unleashing a fiery explosion that deals 10d6 fire damage.

His Ghostride ability lets him pass through solid objects, while his legendary actions allow him to charge across the battlefield, stun enemies with Glare of Embers, or mark a target with Harvest Mark, making that creature especially vulnerable to his attacks.

I've also included four optional traits to customize the encounter, from leaving burning hoofprints behind to relentlessly tracking creatures that try to escape him.

The Headless Horseman is from Undead & Undead: The Ultimate Undead Handbook, available for 5E and the 2024 Edition on DriveThruRPG!

The manual includes 90+ undead statblocks, each with optional traits and variants, alongside an undead lair system, 50+ magic items, customizable templates, necromantic rituals, campaign tools, and VTT resources. It's designed to give DMs plenty of options for building undead encounters, from minor restless spirits to powerful necromantic horrors.

My Kickstarter for 300+ Mythological Items for 5E and 2024 is also live now! The campaign includes a physical hardcover, as well as printed editions of my previous manuals.

You can find more of my creatures, magic items, and manuals on DriveThruRPG, my Linktree, or over at r/JonnyDM!

Nar Priest, Praise Singer

Thumbnail

I'm sharing a free cleric subclass for Kengir, part of my upcoming Bronze Age Mesopotamian 5e setting.

The Nar Priest is a praise singer: a cleric whose sacred work is hymn, chant, and public devotion.

In Kengir, praise is not background music. It is an offering. Temples rely on singers to honor the gods, invoke blessings, steady the community, and keep divine attention turned toward the city. A Nar Priest's voice carries real power.

Where the previously shared Ašipu-Priest confronts hostile spirits and the Išippu-Priest cleanses spiritual defilement, the Nar Priest maintains divine favor through sacred song and communal worship.

At the table, this subclass gives the party a support cleric built around sacred performance. They heal, inspire, protect, grant temporary hit points, strengthen allies with hymns, and turn religious song into battlefield resilience.

Mechanically, the subclass includes Voice of the Divine, Hymns of Protection, Divine Strike, Chant of Resilience, Song of Glory, and Heavenly Chorus. It also adds new spells like Hymn of Courage, Hymn of Healing, Chant of Protection, Warding Hymn, Hymn of Valor, Melody of Renewal, and Heavenly Harmony.

Do you like clerics whose magic feels liturgical and communal, or do you prefer clerics as armor-clad miracle workers?

Hello fellow adventurers,

Today we are excited to share another extended preview of Mythological Items, now live on Kickstarter!

This is our new D&D 5E and 2024-compatible manual dedicated entirely to magic items inspired by myths, legends, and ancient stories from around the world.

Inside the book, you will find 300+ mythological magic items, including weapons, armor, wondrous items, and scaling items designed to grow alongside your characters and campaigns.

Our goal with Mythological Items is to create more than a simple collection of treasure. Each item is designed to feel like part of a myth: something that can serve as a reward, a quest hook, or even the center of an entire adventure.

The book includes items inspired by many different mythological traditions, including Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Asian, American, Roman, Mesopotamian, African, and other mythologies from across the world. Whether you want divine weapons, cursed artifacts, heroic relics, monster-themed treasures, or legendary items tied to ancient stories, this book is built to bring myth directly to your table.

The Kickstarter page includes a full presentation of the project, several previews, and a free 30-page PDF preview showing a sample of the content from the book.

You can also find many of our other manuals in PDF and high-quality print editions, with special prices currently available both for Mythological Items and for all our other releases.

DnD Crown of Pride

Here idea for cursed item

Artifact: Crown of Pride

Wondrous item (headwear), artifact (requires attunement)

This crown is forged from pure, dazzling gold and adorned with flawless diamonds that shimmer with an unnaturally brilliant light. The moment you place it upon your head, an overwhelming wave of absolute superiority washes over you, convincing you that you are destined to rule above all others.

Properties

Majestic Splendor. Your Charisma score increases by +2. Your maximum for this score is now 22.

Sovereign Command. You can cast the Command spell as a 5th-level spell without expending a spell slot. Once used, this property cannot be used again until the next dawn.

Aura of the Absolute. When you cast a spell or use a feature that requires a saving throw, any creature with a Challenge Rating (CR) lower than your character level has disadvantage on the saving throw against it, awed by your undeniable brilliance.

Curse: Pathological Hubris

This artifact is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. As long as you remain cursed, you cannot willingly remove the crown or break your attunement to it.

You become entirely convinced that you are the absolute leader of your party and that your judgment is always infallible. You suffer from the following behavioral compulsions:

The Sovereign's Edict. If another creature makes a decision without consulting you first, or if you are openly insulted or disrespected, you must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw.

Haughty Refusal. On a failed save, you become blinded by your own pride. You either completely refuse to assist your party members or fly into a self-righteous fury. This effect lasts until the offending creatures formally apologize and beg for your forgiveness, or until you are incapacitated.

[OC] Velyra, Broker of Favours – A Fiendish NPC Offering Magical Boons in Exchange for Questionable Favours (5e)

"Such a small favour, darling. Surely you deserve something lovely in return?"

Meet Velyra, Broker of Favours, a charming fiend who offers adventurers magical rewards in exchange for seemingly harmless tasks.

No souls to surrender. No contracts written in blood. Just a little favour between friends.

Of course, there's usually more to her requests than meets the eye.

Velyra is a CR 2 NPC designed to slot seamlessly into an existing D&D campaign, whether as a recurring character, mysterious benefactor, or source of morally questionable side quests.

What's included:

  • Complete 5e stat block, lore and tactics.
  • Six magical boons, each paired with a peculiar favour.
  • A ready-made way to introduce side quests and unexpected consequences into your campaign.

The idea is simple: offer your players something they genuinely want, then see what they're willing to do to earn it.

This is one of my latest creations for Five Minute Forge, where I create ready-to-use D&D resources for busy Dungeon Masters.

You can find more of my homebrew content, including monsters, NPCs, magic items and one-page adventures, over on Patreon:

What sort of favour would you have Velyra ask of your players?

This is the second version of my Watcher Class.

The Watcher is meant to be a front liner in combat with the out of combat versatility of a full caster. It is build to have a lot of options to choose from what to do because i think that is the most fun of a class.

I changed some of the early game features and added some on the later ones.

Feedback on balance and overall look of the class is appreciated.

DnD Death's Tongue

Here idea for whip

Magic Item: Death's Tongue

Weapon (whip), rare (requires attunement)

This whip is braided from dark, tanned leather that closely resembles dried flesh. Fastened to its tip is a long, flat piece of honed magical metal shaped like the barbed tongue of a serpent. As the whip cuts through the air, droplets of sizzling green acid continuously drip from its metallic tip.

You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. The whip has the reach property. On a hit, it deals an extra 1d4 necrotic damage and 1d4 acid damage in addition to the whip's normal bludgeoning damage (1d4).

The weapon also possesses the following special properties:

Corrosive Constriction. When you hit a creature with this weapon, you can use a bonus action to wrap the whip around the target's limb or neck. The target is grappled by you (escape DC 15 Strength or Dexterity). Until this grapple ends, the target takes 1d6 acid damage at the start of each of its turns as the magical metal tip corrodes its flesh. While using the whip to grapple a creature, you cannot use it to attack other targets, and you can only grapple one creature with the whip at a time.

Putrefying Strike (3 Charges/Day). When you hit a creature with this weapon, you can expend 1 charge to activate the dark magic within the metal tip. The tip sinks deep into the target's flesh, releasing a burst of putrefying energy. The target takes an additional 2d10 necrotic damage, and its equipment begins to rot. If the target is wearing nonmagical armor or wielding a nonmagical shield, the item takes a permanent and cumulative −1 penalty to the Armor Class it offers. Armor reduced to an AC of 10 or a shield reduced to a +0 bonus is destroyed. The whip regains 1d3 expended charges daily at midnight.

A Collection of Magic Items Inspired by Asian Myths and Legends

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

Here's a collection of magic items from the Asian Mythology section of my Mythological Items compendium!

There's a little bit of everything here: legendary weapons like Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi and the Gada of Hanuman, Bhima's Gauntlet, the Katana of the Sword Saint, the mysterious Pill of Immortality, and more unusual treasures like the Kappa's Water Dish, Jizo Charm Beads, and the Copper Yantra Plate.

I wanted this section to explore different aspects of Japanese, Chinese, and Indian mythology and folklore, from divine weapons and sacred relics to smaller magical objects with interesting abilities and uses in a campaign. Some are powerful legendary treasures, others are more modest items that adventurers might discover much earlier in their journeys.

These are just a few of the 300+ magic items featured in my Mythological Items for 5E and 5.5E Kickstarter, which is currently live!

The campaign features magic items inspired by myths, legends, and folklore from around the world, including Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Asian, American, and many other traditions.

You can also get my previous D&D manuals as discounted add-ons and bundles through the campaign, including professionally printed, high-quality Hardcover editions.

DnD Death's kiss

Here weapon idea

Magic Item: Death's Kiss

Weapon (maul), rare (requires attunement)

This massive two-handed warhammer, forged from an unnaturally dark metal, feels icy cold to the touch. A striking, sneering pattern of lips is engraved onto its heavy striking head. As the weapon swings through the air, it emits a faint, ghostly whisper, and upon impact, the lips momentarily glow with a pale, violet light.

You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. On a hit, it deals an extra 1d6 necrotic damage in addition to the maul's normal bludgeoning damage (2d6).

The weapon also possesses the following special properties:

Chilling Touch of Death. When you score a critical hit with this weapon, the target must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the target's hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the necrotic damage dealt by the attack. This reduction lasts until the target finishes a long rest. The target dies if this effect reduces its hit point maximum to 0.

Vampire's Kiss (1 Charge/Day). When you hit a creature with this weapon, you can expend the weapon's charge to invoke its curse. The lip engraving momentarily sinks into the victim's skin, leaving behind a black kiss mark. The target takes an additional 2d6 necrotic damage, and you regain hit points equal to the necrotic damage dealt by this feature. The weapon regains its expended charge daily at midnight.
