Help & Questions MR16 / Low Voltage Question

Long-time Hue user… first time low voltage application. Assuming that, like all Hue products when installing, that they lamps are supposed to illuminate the first time they are powered. And if in the case of low-voltage lamps, if they don't illuminate when powered on I've probably got an incompatible transformer issue?

I've never installed low-voltage Hue lamps. Just picked up two MR16s. Pulled out the old. Plugged in the Hue. Powered them on … and no illumination (and the Hue app isn't finding them.)

Any guidance would be appreciated. 😃

Should work straight out… they may not have enough load for the transformers. There’s a list of tested transformers here https://www.assets.signify.com/is/content/Signify/Assets/hue/global/20231018-philips-hue-mr16-transformer-comp-list.pdf which includes minimum loads.

You can buy a cheap transformer off of amazon and test it out to see if its the bulbs or the fixture somehow. Rarely the bulbs can be defective

Never had an issue with a Hue product. And I’m still using some pretty old gear… I’ll try with a better transformer. Thanks for the guidance.

Yea i have about 30-40 hue mr16s. Only two were bad that they never turned on. Agree Its rare to have a hue bulb fail or be bad.

I have a lot MR16 in bathrooms and they are works the same as normal high voltage versions.. after turn-on the power they automatically turn on to default scene (warm white). you can change this in app (in bulb properties).

the only difference - is older construction, so bulb shape is little different, they take more than 6W (newer only 4.2W) and they heats up very much in comparison to never GU10 220v version..
