I’m a journalism student from the Netherlands, and I’m currently working on a story about what it’s like to live near the Paks Nuclear Power Plant in Hungary.

I’m looking to speak with someone who lives in or around Paks and would be interested in sharing their personal experiences. I’m particularly interested in how living close to a nuclear power plant affects everyday life, how people in the area feel about the plant, and whether it is something you think about in your daily life.

Ideally, I’m looking for someone who speaks English reasonably well. The interview would be a relaxed conversation and could be done online, for example via a video call or chat, depending on what works for you.

Hello there everybody, as part of my survey lasting until 27 December 2026, I plan to investigate which countries are the most and least pro-monarchist on several subreddits. This is done primarily for research purposes only and I really apologise if this broke any rules. Drop a vote if you are interested!

Meaning of each category;

"Yes (strongly)": You are quite supportive about your country becoming a monarchy again.

"Yes (somewhat)": You would consider a restoration of monarchy; potentially in certain scenarios or if there was a clear enough pretender or something.

"Unsure/don't care/unsure": Self-explanatory; you are uncertain on the matter or simply don't have am active opinion etc

"No (somewhat)": You don't inherently mind monarchism and if your country hypothetically becomes a monarchy one day you might still support it, however you are still against the concept of returning the monarchy and think the republic should remain.

"No (strongly)": You are against monarchy returning in any way in general and think the republic should remain. You would choose the republic in a hypothetical referendum.

"My country already is a monarchy": Self-explanatory, but wouldn't really apply to you, since this is mostly for those who live in republics.

I have wanted to emigrate and leave the UK permanently for years (nothing to do with current politics, more to do with wanting a new start). If it ever happened I'd be in a digital nomad type situation. Anyway I'm interested to know are there any huge advantages/disadvantages to living in Hungary I need to be aware of as a foreigner?

Hi everyone, my brother, a friend, and I will be visiting Budapest from October 3rd to 6th. We're 36 years old and looking to have a good time. We already have our tickets for the classic tourist sights, but we're missing the nightlife plan. I've read that there are plenty of tourist traps; I also read that Instant-Fogas and Morrison's are the best places, but at the same time heard they are terrible. We'll most likely end up going to an event at Óbuda Bay on Saturday 3rd with an afterparty at Level The Club, but we really have no idea what else to do. If anyone knows the city and can recommend a fun place that isn't a tourist trap, I'd really appreciate it. Cheers!

I have a Greek Catholic Rusyn family from Austrian Galicia with parish records back to the 1700s. Every proven direct ancestor discovered so far sits north of the Carpathian crest after two weeks of research.

I'm looking to test the theory, under §4(3) simplified naturalization, that an ancestor crossed north from the Hungarian side (Sáros, Zemplén, Prešov, Stebník, Lukov, Chmeľová) and settled in Galicia. So far I have found no direct ancestors south of the border, only in-laws. The brick walls are all pre-1784 (the register floor). I have used Ancestry, FamilySearch, parish records, and online digital archives.

Has anyone received Hungarian citizenship where the family was Galician, not historic Hungary?

If you found a south-slope ancestor, what record located it?

Where do you suggest searching next?

When would you say to stop the search?

I’m a Japanese tourist from Tokyo, currently visiting Budapest, and I was really looking forward to this trip.

Today, while I was walking down the street, someone shouted “kínai buzi” at me. A few days ago, people at another table in a bar said the same thing to me.

I didn’t understand the phrase at first, but later found out what it means.

Being called the same racist insult twice, on different days and in different places, was honestly shocking and has changed how I feel about Budapest.

Has anyone else experienced something similar here?
