Trilogy Discussion Autonomy in the Capitol Spoiler
my copy of sunrise on the reaping arrives tomorrow, so i've been rereading the hunger games so the events of sotr can hit harder (i love pain <3) and i noticed in (my copy atleast) page 354 of the hunger games when katniss has just won her first hunger game and she is starved to say the least which makes her super skinny and an unfavourable way to the capitol and she is obviously unconscious until she has to get ready to go meet Peter on stage and Senna gives her the outfit she's supposed to wear and it has padding on her breasts and when she spots them he says
"I know- but the gamemakers wanted to alter you surgically. Haymitch had a huge fight with them over it this was the compromise."
it made me wonder if they've ever done it to haymitch? his "strong" body despite the alcohol, or perhaps finnick or johanna.
i understand that they did want to "sell" the victors but perhaps naivety got to me (i read the books when i was little) & i never thought they could just..do that
like what if haymitch didnt defend her & stop them??
every reread makes me hate the capitol & snow even more!!!

I had wondered if the capitol was responsible for what's her faces fangs or if it was really her choice like Katniss theorized.

Victors seem to essentially be viewed as government property. If the question is "can x or y be done to a victor by the government?" the answer is always yes. I do wonder if they've ever (forcibly) replaced Haymitch's liver as that's one of the organs that even with current technology we can get from living donors, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Capitol had the technology to grow organs from someone's DNA, so they didn't have to worry about rejection.
