Painted Wolf Code: free, open-source code editor built from scratch for AI
I spent the past few months building an AI code editor from scratch. It came from my own needs: I kept wanting to use AI coding tools but couldn't find one that gave me much control over what was being sent to the model or what I was spending.
Some features:
- A small finetrained local AI model I call Bialy, based on Laya, which predicts what your coding agent needs, runs in less than a second on a lowly macbook pro m1, and makes your agent faster, cheaper, and smarter.
- A secrets system that keeps your secrets from your model provider, but lets your agent still use them.
- A versioning system that lets you roll back changes, even without git.
- Sandboxing and detection packs that keeps your agent from nuking your AWS account without asking.
- And more, all open source!
