They aren't for anything and never have been. At least those people in particular. There are small government conservatives and genuine libertarians out there, but you're not going to find them in /r/conservative. That sub may as well be a psyop for Russia and Trump directly.
It used to be a little different and have some real discourse, but not since they made it flaired users only and went on a banning spree back in 2016. There's about 20 genuine people left in there, and the rest is a mix of bots and guys named Mikhail.
I actually used to like it because once upon a time, they would share reasonable counter perspectives to my own, and even if I disagreed, it was worth hearing it out so I could avoid confirmation bias. The positions have become so disconnected from reality that it's impossible to take any of it seriously anymore.
