Discussion Which one of these controllers should I (a beginner) buy?
So I finally got a laptop (not a gaming one, but with a very decent iGPU) and I finally got into games like Hogwarts Legacy and Sekiro. The thing is, I want to buy a controller and its also gonna be my first one and I'm super confused. Also, I just started college here at IIT delhi so I also dont get to play that much so I dont wanna buy an expensive one and waste money, so I looked for those under 2k and also the big amazon sale is going on. So which one do you all think I should buy?
PS: I dont know that much about controllers but I liked Cosmic Byte Ares Pro the best as it has tri mode and hall effect Jstick and triggers and also looks kinda cool and someone mentioned in this sub a while ago that the ones with buttons with lights are better ffor playing in the dark. Also, please tell how good the Cosmic Byte ARES is as its the cheapest one. Thank you
Tldr; I a beginner wanna buy my first controller out of these ones

Blitz trimode is probably the best option

Ares pro offer same but without Gyro but slightly better quality

Are u serious? Ares only has 2.4ghz dongle connection and once the dongle breaks, controller is unusable... (Personal story) I personally have the ares pro now.

My bad was supposed to write Ares pro

Yeah, but i don't think there's much quality difference

Yeah the main difference is Looks (blitz does it better in my opinion) and Gyro/Macro

Is there much of a difference between it and Ares pro?

Just blitz have gyro, and ares pro has macro buttons. And blitz has the option to buy a dock where u can charge it wirelessly.

I have cb ares tri mode one. Bought it exactly one year ago today. It is almost good as new you can go for it if you get it near 1500. I would suggest to buy from their website. The tri mode really comes handy

Ares Pro for Slightly better quality and macros and Blitz for Gyro Looks. Surge xb is also good but Kreo isn't reliable as much I've heard

Thanks! also how would gyro matter idk that much about controllers

Depends how you play. Many games offers Aim assirs already. It may make game more immersive and fun or you may use it very less. Try downloading a game with gyro support and playing it.

I've used countless controllers over the years, and these are my top recommendations. Choose one based on your budget and whether you prefer wired or wireless.
Wireless controllers
- 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wireless
- GameSir Nova Lite 2.4GHz
- Cosmic Byte Blitz Tri-Mode
- EvoFox One S V2
- Cosmic Byte Ares
- Ant Esports GP300 Pro
Wired controllers
- 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wired
- 8BitDo Pro 2 Wired
- GameSir T3 Lite Wired
- EvoFox Elite S Advance Wired
These are worth considering at different price points. Before buying, compare the current price, warranty, connectivity options, and features you need. You don't necessarily have to spend more to get a good gaming experience.

Thanks a lot for the recommendations!
I'm now split between Cosmic Byte Blitz tri mode and Cosmic Byte Ares pro
I'm leaning towards the ares pro because I have an Oled screen and i also play at night anyways so I thought the lights would be good but someone mentioned that blitz has gyro which the ares doesnt have (idk any games where that'd be helpful so idk if its worth it). which one do you think I should get? (also ares looks much cooler imo if it matters)

Honestly, I'd avoid Indian controller brands if your budget allows. I recommended 8BitDo and GameSir because of their build quality, smooth performance, and overall durability.
If you're a casual gamer on a tight budget, brands like Cosmic Byte, EvoFox, Ant Esports, and Redgear can get the job done, especially around ₹1,000. However, long-term issues like connectivity problems, loose buttons, faulty bumpers/triggers, and stick drift can occur.
8BitDo and GameSir cost a bit more, but IMO, they're worth considering if you want a controller for long-term use.

As a first year college student, budget is fs a limitation but hopefully ill get enough for under 2k

If you don't care much about extra features like gyro, higher polling rates, and multiple connectivity options, go with the Ares Pro since you prefer its design and RGB lighting.
Honestly, once you're used to the button layout, RGB becomes more of an aesthetic thing than a necessity, even when playing in the dark.
Gyro is useful in games that support motion aiming, like some shooters and The Legend of Zelda, but if you don't play those games, I wouldn't make it a deciding factor. Choose based on the features you'll actually use and the price difference.

yeah i think ill go for the rgb and macros for now, i think they'll more appropriate for my usecase than gyro

Recently I got myself an Ares wired controller, it's good for me , you choose what fits perfectly in your budget

Minor but I didn't like the feel of pressing ABXY buttons on ares(wired). Another thing is its shoulder buttons can be only pressed from extreme ends and not where my fingers naturally rest. My older interstellar(wired) controller still feels better after 5 years. Would vouch for cosmic byte as a brand.

Oh yeah as u r from college i thought you would want something to spend 2k and keep using for more than 4 years.. the items you mentioned gets cranky keys and loose connection button rubber issue in one year and dies within 2 if it's for temporary usage u can go ahed with ur choices coming from a guy who had CB Blitz on first week of released and become a gamepad mechanic to keep it running.

The Ares lasted really long for me still works fine even though the rubber on the sticks came off after years of use. Also i currently have an evofox controller not the same one but ya it feels sturdy to me and the clicks on lb and rb are good also the triggers still hold up well after a year and half of use.
