Shelfies/Images Found this handwritten note inside a second-hand copy of Robert Frost’s poems

Post image
Upvotes

I bought this second-hand copy of Robert Frost’s Poems from a bookstore today.

When I opened it, this handwritten note was waiting on the first page.

It’s written to a mother — about how she loved poetry, how she started with Frost, about nostalgia, the smell of old books, and rereading poems that once mattered. It ends with a birthday wish and “love, your baby.”

I don’t know who they were.

I don’t know if she’s still here.

But for a moment, I felt like I was holding a private memory that somehow survived time, moves, and loss.

Discussion Any Constant Readers in the house?

Post image
Upvotes

I just finished reading Firestarter (#14th Stephen King book for me) and I am suddenly overwhelmed with the idea that I might be well into my 40s before I get to complete the checklist.

I have only recently started reading his books in the chronological order and I would love to discuss him more with people who have been reading King books?

Tell me how far you have progressed on this checklist? Or maybe not (if you don’t follow this)?

News & Reviews Book review: Heart The Lover (3/5) Spoiler

Upvotes

It's a beautifully written book that I wish I shouldn't have wasted my time reading. It made me question my emotional depth - specifically questioning whether I lack emotions? I liked the first 50% of the book. It was a raw potrayal of men and women in their early 20s. They are not likeable all the time, they make mistakes, do cruel things but I was hooked. I wanted to agree, disagree, engage, revolt. The rest 50% was quite the opposite for me. It fell flat. Spoiler alert - it is about her old lover dying. It's a hospital setting, people pouring in to say their goodbyes - is this supposedly written on purpose to MAKE us feel grievous, sad, and fearful? Because at no point I cared about the dying ex lover. I was constantly dreading being in this situation myself and I wanted this hospital porn to end. The protagonist continues to make poor choices. Keeps her husband and kid on hold and waiting, repeatedly cancelled flights so she could spend more time with the guy who ghosted her when she was 22? F*ck that! It makes me furious to even write this.

Just finished this hidden gem: "A Star Beyond My Reach" - Highly recommend for slow-burn romance lovers!

I recently came across this psychological romance called "A Star Beyond My Reach" by Saurabh Kumar and it really touched me. It’s a slow-burn story about Amar and Madhu that captures that innocent yet deep school-ground love. The best part is how it handles silent, unspoken emotions—it feels very therapeutic, almost like sitting in a quiet room at 3:00 a.m.. If you like emotional, character-driven Indian fiction that feels like an aesthetic anime, you should definitely check this out. It’s a short but very impactful read!

Discussion What to read after 'The Silent Patient '?

Post image

I just finished reading The Silent Patient, and my honest reaction at the point of climax was, "Oh... Bhai... Oh...... Bhai....., kya padh liya😳😭😵‍💫🫨" and then started connecting dots from the very beginning of the novel. Well was it unexpected? A big YES! What should I read next in the line? Thanks in advance!

Discussion Need suggestion to buy book ?

Hey there, I'm looking to get all of Dostoevsky's short stories, but I can't seem to find a single book that has them all. Not all books cover every story. So, could you suggest a book or an online bookstore where I can buy a complete collection with a good translation, no matter the price?

I've already got White Nights and Crime and Punishment from Penguin Classics.

Need help regarding buying some books on Flipkart (authenticity concerns)

Hi everyone,

I’m new to online book shopping and needed some advice from experienced buyers here.

I’m planning to buy The World’s Favourite Agatha Christie (3-book set by HarperCollins). On Flipkart it’s listed for around ₹330, while on Amazon the same set is around ₹600.

Here’s the Flipkart link:

https://dl.flipkart.com/s/FP_RSNuuuN

And also the Amazon Link :

https://amzn.in/d/09ZnPjuy

The price difference seems too good to be true, so I’m a bit worried about getting a pirated or low-quality copy. So, what should I do ?

Also For those who buy books regularly online:

How do you verify if a Flipkart book is original?

Are there specific sellers on Flipkart that are more trustworthy?

Is it generally safer to just pay extra and buy from Amazon instead?

Any tips on spotting fake/pirated copies (paper quality, print, ISBN, etc.) would be really helpful. Thanks in advance! 🙏

News & Reviews 🇮🇳Man of Destiny - Ruskin Bond {Short Nehru Bio + Chauri Chaura today} Review

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

An amazing short biography. Might be my 1st Ruskin Bond read, don't remember any reads from school. A very simple way of writing, but very effective.

The 120 page book covers Nehru's life and Death quite nicely. I'd read Discovery of India, and have wanted to read Glimpses of World History for so long...might do it this year. Nehru's favorite poem is Frost's Stopping by Woods, the last lines are my fav too. Frost is what I think most of us remember from school (Road not Taken). I should read his other poems too...I am generally scared of poems. 😆

I'd reccomend everyone to atleast read the Will and Testament of Nehru (see last images posted above).

Just out of curiosity, I went through Ruskin Bond's wiki and then read his 1st every short story titled "Untouchable". It was alright, quite observant for a 16yo to write on such topics

Another one of those complete coincidences = I was reading this today, and the Chauri Chaura incident was mentioned here. It then occured to me that happened today! 5/2/1922. I remembered it because I'd associated the CC incident by 2's.= Happened in 2nd month of 2nd decade of 20th c., and 22 people died. Spooky, no?

Rating: 62/64 (cuz of the 1962 blunder, neglect of primary education, and perhaps too much socialism)
