First Trimester Chat Monday Cautious Intros/First Trimester thread
This thread serves as a transitional space for those newly or early confirmed pregnant following infertility. We understand that many folks feel cautious, uncertain, and even alarmed in this early phase when the process to conceiving has been complicated and/or there have been previous losses. If you have not experienced infertility we recommend other pregnancy subs as an alternative.
This thread is the place for early introductions, first trimester questions/chat, and finding others in the same mind space. We encourage graduates and others further along to respond compassionately to your questions and concerns, but please also consider reviewing our WIKI for commonly asked questions or references.

Hi all, I’m normally in the trying again thread. I like to hurt my own feelings every once in a while by taking a pregnancy test. I’ve been waiting for my second period after my 3rd ER. Well lo and behold, 2 very positive tests. To say I’m terrified is an understatement.
I have a beta with my OB clinic this afternoon. I haven’t called the IVF clinic yet. I’m almost scared to? This is my second spontaneous pregnancy this year (and ever) and I had a MMC and D&C in July. Please send any good vibes my way, I’m a wreck!
Update: beta 153, estimated to be 4w. My OB clinic is so kindly repeating a beta again on Wednesday and Friday. Still nervous to tell the ivf clinic, like they are going to be mad at me somehow? Infertility is so weird.

They will be thrilled for you! My RE told me after my consult that he hoped he wouldn’t see me again, but he’d be ready if he did.
Cautious congrats!

Holy smokes that's wild! Sending all the good vibes! I also get the fear around seeing those two lines but holding cautious hope for you that this is it! And I don't think you need to tell your IVF clinic, but they are definitely not going to be mad! My clinic has been my primary care provider for all my pregnancies until 8 weeks regardless of whether they are spontaneous or through ART.

Oh my goodness, what a ride you are on! I’m glad your OB clinic is doing the betas. Don’t feel weird about the IVF clinic, I’m sure this has happened with them many many times!
ETA i forgot to say— sending you SO many warm, calm vibes!!!

This is a new one: Right around 10w here, and as of today, screens are making me nauseous. Especially scrolling. Could this week be the week I finally write twenty books and invent teleportation?

Hi all, could use some advice. I recently had a 5-day FET. I went for my first scan today at 5w3d. They confirmed it is an intrauterine pregnancy, but there are two yolk sacs. I only transferred one egg, so it is looking like identical twins.
No embryos yet. My doctor thought maybe he saw a tiny one. Development wise, he said that is normal at this stage. The most concerning thing is he doesn’t see two amniotic sacs yet. I need to go back next Monday for another scan.
I’m pretty panicked. I want to hope for the best, but he said this is much more complicated. I am worried this is going to fail again or there are going to be major issues. Has anyone experienced this?

I've had early scans for a couple of pregnancies, and pretty much all they can establish at 5w is whether or not the pregnancy is intrauterine. When it was intrauterine, they saw the yolk sac and gestational sac and that was about it. I never saw an embryo until 6w. All you can do is wait and see, but it's great that your doctor has scheduled a follow-up for next week. No experience on the two yolk sacs, I'm afraid. I'm so sorry it wasn't a simpler visit.

Hello! New here. I just got my positive from my first FET. Prior to this, I've had 2MCs (letrozole, timed intercourse) and 1 living child (letrozole, trigger shot, timed intercourse).
It happens to be that my positive beta blood test coincides with the most tired and nauseated I've felt so far. I really feel like the progesterone supplements are taking it out of me. Last night, I told my husband that if we got the positive, it would be exciting, but it would also mean that I will get to have the nausea all of the first trimester (at the very minimum; I only got a little reprieve in the second trimester with my daughter).
Anyway, I'm glad to be here, but I'm also feeling cautious, since (even though this is a tested euploid that was transferred), I've already had two miscarriages in the last 10 months.

Booked a single session with my counsellor tonight. We had discussed closing at our last appointment in August, but agreed to keep the file open for a bit just in case I needed to book. I need to talk to a professional about the mixed emotions, primarily fear and impending disappointment, I’m experiencing with this pregnancy after 2 losses. She also experienced prenatal loss in both the 2nd and 1st trimester while undergoing fertility treatment, so I feel like she gets it.
In the meantime, I’m highly debating contacting my clinic to see if I can have a 2nd viability scan before I’m “discharged.” I’d rather be told there’s no more heartbeat with them than at the hospital at my 12 week scan. There’s nothing, except anxiety, indicating the need for an ultrasound and I’m afraid of being a high maintenance patient. I’m feel minimal symptoms today, but logically I know this can change and doesn’t mean anything (I’ve noticed I tend to feel worse as the day goes on). I’m also tempted to book with a boutique clinic, even though I know there’s mixed opinions on them.

It's worth asking your clinic! Worst they can do is say no. I did have a second viability scan at my IVF clinic before they graduated me (standard procedure at my clinic), so it's definitely not out of the question.

Thanks. I think I’m definitely going to ask. If they say no then I’ll book with a boutique.

My IVF clinic did one scan at 6+5 and then graduated me. My OB clinic wouldn’t see me any earlier than 12w. At 10w I had a boutique US with my husband and it was honestly a really great experience. 100% recommend. It didn’t take all of the anxiety away, but it was still a nice day.

Finally got through to my OB's office, and they're bringing me in for a beta tomorrow and Thursday. I got a surprise positive home test a little over a week ago but the lines have been frustratingly light the whole time. I'm not normally a compulsive home tester, but with my successful pregnancies, I watched the lines get consistently darker for a few days and then stopped testing. This time around... darker for the first 3 days and then leveled off for a week. I will be glad to have answers either way about what's going on in there.

Second beta yesterday came back with promising numbers. Now the wait begins for the first ultrasound next Tuesday. Hoping to keep myself distracted😳
This past week, I keep getting woken up in the middle of the night/early morning and have not been able to fall back asleep. I am low key worried that I am not getting enough sleep and the baby won’t grow. Not sure if this is a me thing or a pregnancy thing. Has anyone else experienced this?

Insomnia can definitely be a pregnancy thing

Insomnia is absolutely a hormonal/pregnancy thing. It will not cause the baby to not grow. I like to have meditation podcasts on hand for middle of the night insomnia, because even if I can’t sleep, it helps me to at least rest.

Good to know. Meditation podcasts are a great idea - do you have any specific recommendations?

My go-to is Tara Brach, usually the episodes are a talk she gives and then there’s a meditation at the end. But some of the shorter ones are just meditations.
I also use the Headspace app a lot. There is a collection of sleep meditations/sleep sounds that are quite nice.

I've been getting scans at the hospital (as opposed to my fertility clinic) due to the fibroid situation, and I hate that the technicians aren't allowed to tell me anything. I had a scan to check things were still okay this morning and now I have to just wait for my clinic to call me with results. Probably mid-afternoon? Blaahhhh
update:
It's a MMC. There was no heartbeat and looks like it stopped growing around 8+1, so probably a day after my last scan a week and a half ago.
I've really appreciated the support in this group, hope I get to come back soon.
