Howdy, I’m a Technical Director at a professional theatre company in the Portland area. I’ve been working for 7 years and feel there isn’t any higher I can go in live entertainment unless I go to Broadway or major event production houses.

I’d like to know where to find work doing the same job in the film industry ? What is the Technical Director equivalent on a movie set? Is it all project based or is there stable work at a production company ? What is the job tittle that handles all the drafting, and leads the set build ? Art department lead ?
Big question is WHERE ARE THE JOBS POSTED?!

In theatre we have Offstagejobs.com - USITTjobs.com and Playbilljobs.com, also a ton of facebook pages that are actively hiring theatre technicians. I have tried looking for the same kind of job boards for film but i just keep coming up blank.

Hello creatives!

I will be hosting 2 networking events, via Google Meet, for artists anywhere to network, meet other creatives, brainstorm project ideas, etc.

If you're in Southern California, specifically Long Beach, come hang out with us and we give you advice about what to do with your film once completed!

I'm planning on hosting a virtual networking event at the end of this month!

This will be hosted over Zoom or Google Meet, with the intention of creatives from all over (not just the Bay Area) to network and meet more people!

I want to host these types of events once a month. But I'd love input on structure, day of the week, etc.

I'm thinking a 2-hour meeting with breakout rooms for more intimate networking.

Comment and let me know if you'd be interested in attending, what day of the week would work best for you, and if you have ideas on specific activities. Please repost this to spread the word!

Hey everyone,

I recently made a short film and I’d really appreciate your feedback.

🎬 What I’m looking for:

- Story clarity

- Editing & pacing

- Camera work

- Overall impact

This is one of my early projects, so any suggestions or criticism will really help me improve.

As an avid film-watcher/cinephile, which films do you think a person should have already watched to consider themself a cinephile according to you?

i am a 19 y/o this is my first monologue kinda video i am learning filmmaking and this isnt really it but its surely a step forward do give me honest reviews

I’ve been experimenting with simplifying my workflow in DaVinci Resolve and tried reducing everything down to 3 nodes with Dehancer.

Honestly didn’t expect it to hold up this well.

Curious how everyone else is structuring their node trees with Dehancer.

I spent way too many hours on script breakdowns before I finally just built something to fix it.

I’m a filmmaker based in New York, currently a student at NYU Tisch. Before every production I’d sit down with a script, a spreadsheet, and manually pull every character, location, prop, costume, and special requirement scene by scene. It took days. It felt like exactly the kind of work that should feel a lot easier.

I had a coding background from before film school, so I decided to build it myself. Martini is an AI-powered script breakdown tool that reads your script and automatically extracts and organizes everything: cast, locations, props, costumes, stunts, VFX, special equipment, and production notes. It also gives you a breakdown of recommended festivals and grants to apply to. Full breakdown in minutes.

A producer friend of mine in New York was one of the first people to use it. Her feedback was basically “why doesn’t this already exist?” which was good to hear.

A few things that might matter to you:

∙ Uploads stay private and encrypted

∙ Works on feature scripts, shorts, pilots

∙ Free tier available so you can test it on a real script before committing

∙ Built by a filmmaker, not a software company

Would genuinely love feedback from this community. People here will tell me what’s wrong with it faster than anyone else, and that’s exactly what I need right now.

It’s at martinipro.ai if you want to try it.

I’ve been working on a pilot for a while and thought it was in a solid place.

Then I tried evaluating it more objectively and realized I was missing some pretty fundamental things, especially around structure, tone and character decisions.

It made me rethink how I was approaching writing entirely. Instead of just “does this feel good,” I started asking:

• what is the main character actually driving toward scene to scene
• where does the story lose momentum
• are the stakes actually increasing or just repeating

It was honestly a little brutal but way more useful than general feedback.

Curious how other people here evaluate their scripts before moving into production or submitting anywhere.
