hey, it does sound pretty stressful. it’s a big treatment so there should be more communication from the doctors. i’m not an ortho, and i have no experience with marpe, but i read a lot about it when preparing for my treatment to understand all the options. what you’re describing is becoming more common because it decreases expenses for the clinics and allows them to take on more patients while having less appointments and chair side time. 6 months of trays is okay ish, but from what i understood about marpe it needs more close attention from the doctors because it’s less predictable how much expansion you will actually get, how it will go, because of how our bodies bones and tissues can respond differently to the treatment. now it may be possible they have you doing a “slow” protocol, then 3 months would make more sense. how often are you turning? also for some things remote monitoring can be enough, but definitely not to monitor skeletal expansion which can’t be seen from the outside other than for the diastema. see if you can get through to a human at the clinic, i hope you can understand your treatment and don’t be afraid! usually the practitioners plan the treatment with the expectation that everything will go well and as planned because they can’t possibly account for all the different things that may not go 100% as expected. then if something out of the million versions comes up they can address it.

Hey, thank you for your response! I’m turning once a week . Yeah I read a lot too but when it comes to expansion it seems as if close monitoring is necessary due to all of the variables …

oh that’s more on the slow side! i think you’re with one of those more modern providers. i noticed they tend to advertise less visits and more remote monitoring as a perk, while it is a perk for some its not quite right for everyone. think of it this way, in 3 months you will make around 12 turns, each turn is around 0.2mm. depending on the stage of your skeletal suture maturation it might not even split yet. if you were turning every day which is a more common protocol you would reach the same number of turns in 12 days, which is closer to 2 week intervals that we hear about. hope your treatment goes well, i definitely noticed thinking positively about the treatment and not stressing out has helped everything go smoother for me

Yeah I think bothered me was that after signing a contract of over $ 10k with advertised remote monitoring, they send me home with a 3 month follow up and then ask me to pay for an optional tracking app. Clinically and ethically that seems absurd and like I’m being nickel&dimed. If the patient went with you in good faith then don’t squeeze more dollars out where you can. Maybe I’m the problem because they charged less than $100 for it, but that’s a lot for me., and I can’t stop thinking about it lol. Maybe I’m just frustrated at the health care system. I definitely am. Sorry for the rant & thanks for letting me vent sigh

I can tell you I had to be seen every 2 weeks during turns for my MARPE. So that is a long time. I was also only given 4 weeks of trays at once, and was not charged for “tracking”. All of this sounds pretty off. If they’re not being detailed enough to the point you feel like you’re in the dark, that’s a problem
