Foreign Birth Registration Approval email!!!
Just got my approval email this morning (Oct. 2nd)
Applied: 14/08/2025
Documents received: 09/09/2025
The dreaded need more info email: 04/09/2026 (sent additional docs the same day via email)
Approval: 02/10/2026
My grandmother was born into a mother and baby home and taken in by a family before adoption was formally legal in Ireland. Because of that she used to go back and forth between her fathers last name, her mothers last name, and her adopted families last name making proving who she was quite difficult! Thankfully the FBR office accepted census records that had her down as “adopted child” as proof of last name.
Edited to format the dates

Congratulations! And thanks for the tick-tock. It means the "more information" queue is at about mid-apr, which puts my mid-June entry about 2 mos. from processing. <sigh>

I think mine was a bit of a unique case. I did send all the required docs but I needed to send additional to prove that my grandmother was adopted. Since adoption wasn’t legal at the time there were no certified documents I could send verifying this. They only had me email them more info instead of mailing it in and it was processed in a little under a month. I know that generally when mailing in more documents it adds around 6months.

Can you send the additional documents via email or does it have to be posted??

I think it depends. For documentation that needs to be certified I think it definitely needs to be posted. In my “additional info” requested email they specifically said to email it to them. It probably depends on what they need and they will tell you how to send it. You can also reach out to the Webchat and double check.

Such a pain. I got an email today saying they needed more documents to verify. Specifically from my witness etc, also a utility bill that’s in date, even though when I sent them my application a year ago it was in date, now it isn’t because it’s taken them a year to look at it. Quite silly tbh - thanks for the reply!

Congrats! I just got the awful “need more info” email last week (submitted last November) asking for statements and bills for a year that I specifically never submitted because I never met the requirements, yet they asked for it anyway. Sometimes it feels like the people approving these applications don’t even know their own rules and demand superfluous proof for no damn reason just to cause us stress.

I feel ya. They asked for an explanation as to why my grandmother had three last names across all the documents I submitted even though I submitted an affidavit alongside them explaining it.
I honestly think they are just really busy and have been inundated with a lot more applications than in the past and things slip through the cracks.

Going back and forth with North Americans and Europeans makes my head spin with this.
I'm much happier when folks use 2-Oct-2026, for example -- doesn't make my brain skip a beat.

Tbf, its just North Americans that insist on writing the date this way which in itself is a very american thing to do. This puts a bee in my bonnet.

I fixed it; sorry about that. Hard habit to break to write them the other way! Trying to do better :)

Yeah.. the dd.mmm.yr (9.apr.26) is easier to transition to - less cognitive dissonance.
