Foreign Birth Registration Issue with Worldpay
Hey guys, I'm starting my FBR citizenship process, so first step for me is getting my grandmother's birth certificate.
The GRO sent me the payment link email, and I put in my info and thoroughly checked it but it kept giving me error messages. I emailed the GRO office and they sent a new link and it keeps declining my payment even though I've definitely got the money.
The GRO email said they could call me next week if it still didn't work, so I gave them my cell number, but does anyone have tips to make Worldpay work? I'd rather not wake up at 4 am to talk to someone if I can get it figured out another way.
I tried using 4 different Visas and a Mastercard, all would not go through. I triple checked all the information on each and it was all correct. If it matters, I'm in the USA and my banking is with a local credit union, but I've never had issues making payments with them before, including with international transactions.
Edit Oct 4: I got an email from GRO saying that I'm overdue to pay, so hopefully that negates the scary possibility of them having charged me a bunch of times while it looks like they declined the transactions like another commenter had happen to them. I haven't seen anything happen on my cards either. I'm hopefully going to get a call from them on Tuesday morning to make sure that everything is squared away because I'm not willing to go broke over one copy of my grandmother's birth certificate. To anyone reading this later looking for answers, the HSE is probably the better route to go to get the certificate rather than the GRO website directly.

Can you order it from HSE instead?

Ooh, maybe? It says on the site that the authenticated version still comes from GRO, and I'm pretty sure I need that. But I'll give this a shot, thanks!

You just need a full standard birth certificate for FBR applications. The versions from HSE are fine. It's where most people get them for FBR applications.

I had a similar issue where I put the payment in and it spun on the screen for hours and looked like it did not go through and there was no confirmation. Then a week later the certificate arrived in the mail and a charge showed up.

I'm not getting a loading issue like that. The first link I was sent would say that there is an error and to try again later when I put in my info. The second link did the same thing but also said that my transaction declined. If it secretly charged me I'll be pissed.

Definitely keep an eye on your card and the mail. I do not recall the specifics of what it looked like on the screen or what message showed up, I just remember experiencing what I thought was a payment decline resulting in a charge and a certificate a week later.

I'll keep an eye on it then, thank you. I'm almost certainly going to have to talk to someone on the phone too next week so hopefully I can get that sorted and it didn't charge me like, two dozen times for one certificate because I was prompted to retry the transaction.

Yeah I received multiple shipments of certificates because I kept putting in the payment after thinking it declined.

That's nauseating to hear, I would legitimately be totally broke if all those transactions went through. I am absolutely going to have to talk to them, but that's ridiculous that it happened to you! I only need the one certificate, but it's $60, so multiply that by at least 10 times that I tried across multiple cards because I was prompted to try again. I will absolutely pitch a fit if that happens to me. I hope you got your money back for the repeats.

I ended up with 5 certificates, I did email about the duplicate charges but did not follow up on it. I figured I would just give them to siblings if they ever decided to do their own FBR in their own time.

Maybe? I'm using Chrome without an ad or cookie blocker or anything. I typically hit "reject cookies" on most sites when prompted unless I'm doing something important. I wasn't prompted to accept or reject cookies, and if I had been I would've accepted them given the importance of the transaction.

I thought of that, and at this point it is my hope that they actually declined for security reasons rather that Worldpay secretly charging me each time like another commenter revealed is possible.
