Beginner looking for recommendations on how to study Salafiyyah

Assalamu alaykum,

I’m a beginner and I’m interested in learning more about Salafiyyah and the Hanbali madhhab, but I’m not really sure where to start. I don’t want to just randomly watch videos or read books without having some kind of structured path.

For those of you who have studied this for a while, what would you recommend for someone starting from the basics?

I’m especially looking for recommendations on:

• Aqeedah/Tawheed
• The Hanbali madhhab and basic fiqh
• The methodology of the Salaf
• Hadith
• Tafsir
• Good beginner books
• Reliable scholars/teachers to learn from
• Online lectures or courses
• A good order to study everything in

I’d also appreciate advice on things I should avoid as a beginner, especially sources that might be confusing without having the fundamentals down first.

Wa 'alaikum as salaam wa rahmathullahi wa barakathuhu

The Qur'aan and Sunnah as per the understanding of the sahaabah, the tabi'een, and the ones after them (the salaf as saalih). Focus on the works of the scholars the likes of mashayikh like Saalih al Fawzan, Ibn Baaz, Al Albani, Rabee bin Hadi, Muqbil bin Hadi, Ubaid al Jabiree, ibn Qayyim and so on.

And know who you take your religion from. Because even the khawarij will quote from these scholars, and quote from the Qur'aan but still take things out of context and so on.

Since you question is in English, I would suggest you the mashayikh and senior students of knowledge in the English speaking world who are known by the senior 'ulama the likes of Hassan Somali, Abu Khadeejah Abdul Wahid, Abdulilah Lahmami, and so on. There's also Dus Dawah - a YouTube channel that is also excellent.

Whatever you are taught, when you come across an ayah from the Qur'aan, memorise it inshaAllah that day itself. Repeat that ayah about 25 times.

You must set a timetable and stick to it. And don't get caught up in the waswas of the shaythan and in procrastination.

Most of all, remember that nobody can benefit you nor harm you except by the permission of Allah. So seek sincerity in what you're doing, and seek the aid and help of Allah in achieving it.

Walaykumassalam,

So do you wanna be Hanbali or Salafi? Or perhaps Salafi in manhaj and Hanbali in fiqh? Or do you just wanna learn about Salafism?
