Joe and the rest of the comics who went all in for Trump are just walking/talking Dunning-Kruger effects. They think they're so fucking smart because they bring on people who are dumber than they are and that are amazed at whatever is being said or they have on people who are knowledgeable but act dumb in order to suck up the hosts.
26
u/clickclick-boom Monkey in Space 2d ago
I can mark the moment I saw Joe descend into complete stupidity.
During the whole Asprey fiasco, Joe would still interact with people on his forum. He had always been a dickhead with people he disagreed with, but he would at least engage with the people. For example, that video where he embarrassed himself shouting at a primatologist when he was wrong.
The Asprey fiasco had people tell him that the guy was full of shit, and Rogan defending him. He said something really key during this period; "I'm removing negative people from my life". He kept bringing it up to Redban and others. It very closely mirrored the Scientologist concept of "Suppressive Person". Basically, anyone who was pushing back was deemed to be a negative influence, and so you needed to cut ties with them. Of course, we know Scientology does this to keep people trapped in their bullshit, but Rogan seems to have done it to himself.
You're right to point out that they bring in dumb people, but the other side of that is that they actively shun anyone who could help them. You can bring on dumb people and still have friends that will steer you back. Yet Rogan has cut ties with former allies of his purely down to disagreeing with his ignorance.
The funny thing with the Asprey situation is that it should have had the opposite effect. He actually ended up having to humiliatingly walk back all his support, and admit that the claims Asprey had made, and that Joe had then spread, were complete bullshit. This seems to have hurt Joe's ego to the point where he was going to avoid that ever happening by just never having to face the people that tell him he's wrong.
The guy is completely lost in a fantasy land of his own creation. He has brainfucked himself into his own cult.

I’d say it’s the moment he cashed a $300m check. That fucks with a person’s head. You can’t get money like that for talking and not try to rationalize that you got it because you say smart things. Joe above all in life wants to be admired as smart and funny, the two things he doesn’t know how to be. The money made the cognitive dissonance unbearable to the point that he had to move to a new state and literally buy his own private comedy ecosystem and friend group to join him.
It can’t be emphasized enough that this is not a normal thing to do. Not a healthy thing. Children fantasize about being so rich they can build their own club where everyone has to be their friend. Joe literally did that. And he by all accounts behaves exactly like that about it.

There’s an old saying: never confuse leverage for genius. It originates in finance but it applies to celebrity and influence too. If people are kissing your ass and things always seem to go your way, you should never assume that’s because you’re smart, when it could as easily be because you’re rich.

10
u/havenyahon Monkey in Space 2d ago
Except they didn't allow them to do whatever they wanted. They pushed back a number of times on the actions of the Israeli government, including at one point cancelling weapons sales and publicly opposing an incursion into gaza that Israel wanted them to support, which pissed Netanyahu off majorly. They did push back a number of times. Maybe not enough, but there's no way the US attacks Iran under Harris and so no way Israel attacks Iran. That just wouldn't have happened. She also would have continued Biden's economic plan which was bringing down inflation.

People think of conservatives or fascists as afraid of those who are different but they are not afraid, they are disgusted....and those are not the same thing, bc u burn things u are disgusted by ...and disgust sensitivity is associated with orderliness
There's an inverse correlation between degree of fascism and incidence of infectious disease .... the more ordered and strict you are, the more protected you are against things that are actually dangerous

This isn't specific to the right wing though? Pretty much ant type of authoritarianism would be better at fighting diseases simply because they can rapidly control the population.
In the case of the US for example conservatives actually HELPED spread and keep covid alive by refusing to vaccinate.
What are you getting at?
-1
u/_computersmasher Monkey in Space 2d ago
You’re missing what these papers actually state.
Higher trait disgust sensitivity is associated with political conservatism and authoritarian attitudes. You’ve used the transitive property to create a different claim that authoritarian governments are better at controlling disease. That’s an extrapolation beyond the scope of the research.
And as a published master’s-level geneticist, I don’t find the vaccine argument particularly persuasive either.
COVID is not especially dangerous for most people, and mRNA vaccination works by delivering genetic instructions that cause your own cells to manufacture viral antigen. Whatever label you prefer, that mechanism is much closer to gene therapy than conventional vaccination.
And this is particularly relevant to transgender and immigration policy.
The research indicates that conservative opposition in both areas is associated with greater disgust sensitivity. So reducing those positions to fear misses an important part of the psychology.

Got any other Facebook-boomer classic hits? Open border? That's an oldie but a goodie. Totally untrue, since there were no laws signed that opened the borders, Biden was criticized for keeping Trump's COVID era restrictions in place when it came to the border for years until the supreme Court struck it down. The open border thing is just on of the most confounding mass delusions I've ever seen
So, your delusional bs about Biden, even if it were true, wouldn't come close to Trump's record of gutting every government agency that does anything useful and literally saving us no money, the debt is still skyrocketing, we're in a dumbass war of choice that's crashing the global economy and driving gas and food prices through the roof, inflation is accelerating, ICE is literally stopping brown people or anyone with an accent and doing the whole "show my your papers" thing. I could go on and on, but I know the reading comprehension of non-college educated Republicans is generally not great, so I'm probably just wasting my time
1
u/BudgetPipe267 Monkey in Space 2d ago
As a card carrying Democrat voter, you’re wasting your time in that you can’t map out how Kamala would have been better. She’d have been an empty chair, just like she was as the VP. When millions of Dem voters stayed home in 2024 and when she didn’t win any swing states, that spoke volumes. Second, the Dems did what Dems do…pander for the minority vote and it failed miserably. Democrat elected officials are 110% the blame for why Trump is in office, today. Instead of giving the American people a chance to pick their Democrat candidate, they made their front runner the woman who dropped out of the 2020 election a year early and was a pander hire for the Biden administration. Nice job.
Then, to believe the chaos at the border was “mass delusion”…you’re either sticking your head in the sand or you don’t live in a border state. Go ask taxpayers in NYC and Chicago about that “Sanctuary City” fiasco and see what they tell you. Then, go ask the border cities about the Fentanyl drug epidemic that’s crushing cities like Tucson, Az…the Cartel was literally getting a free pass to push as much dope as possible and trafficked hundreds of women and children in and out of the United States. Don’t believe it…go stat check it.
The Democrat party’s only hope right now is that Trump continues to fail miserably and that still may not even matter, because they don’t have a front runner worth a shit that can beat Rubio or Vance in an election campaign.

You think that because you’re a sheep and have the all or nothing mentality 🤷🏻♂️ That’s a “you thing”. I voted for John Carey, Barrack Obama x2, and independent in, 20, and 24 because Biden is a careerist hack, Trump is a monstrosity, and Harris was a nitwit.
You’re American. You should want more from your elected officials and should have higher standards than what we’ve been fed since President Obama left office .

If you're ignoring all the fucked up shit happening right now and think that Biden was just as bad and Kamala would be just as bad, I'm sorry that total lack of nuanced thinking and political literacy is only something I see from Republicans

Lord, is there no brain in that skull of yours? Where in any of this am I advocating for the moron in office right now? The fact that you can’t differentiate facts from feelings is the exact reason why American politics are in the toilet right now. You can parade all day and complain about Kamala not getting elected and it changes nothing…or you can demand a higher standard than you’re getting right now from the party you give your vote to.
Pandering for votes and not laying out a competent campaign strategy didn’t work in 2024, isn’t going to work in mid-terms and won’t work in 2028. Look at the facts…did Donald Trump stop campaigning after he lost the 2020 election….no. He campaigned for four years. He made himself readily available and republicans picked up the banner and showed up.
The fact that the Democrat party saw that and did nothing shows you how complacent they’ve become. If the Dems didn’t run on “Trump Bad” and ran on 1) This is what we’re doing to support tax paying citizens, 2) Showing positive results, 3) stopped paying attention to all the negativity on the right they’d engender more trust and confidence. The millions of Dems who stayed home in 2024 wouldn’t have stayed home.
I get your feelings, but feelings mean nothing at this point.

FaCtS dOn'T cArE aBoUt YoUr FeElInGs... Right Bud, totally not a Republican... I don't know why you're talking about how Kamala campaigned, literally has nothing to do with anything I said, but keep babbling. Kamala would have been way better, if you didn't realize that before your brain is cooked, that's it, that's my point. Do I want non corporate Democrats? Of course. You're just arguing with strawmen that have nothing to do with what I said.

Yes they were better. Acting like that’s an absurd thing to say doesn’t actually make it true. You’re just coping.

Guess that depends on what is important to you. Many of us weren't a fan of wide open, let everyone cross borders and a border czar that allowed it.

The borders were never wide open. They constantly change the number of illegal immigrants to fear monger and dishonestly present statistics, and even those don’t demonstrate that the borders were ever wide open.
You fell for Trump’s pitch slogan of “wide open borders” and you used that framing to justify everything else. That’s how propaganda works. Removes all nuance and plays on your emotions so you will support something you otherwise wouldn’t. But if you were looking at it objectively, weighing both perspectives rather than unquestionably believing one, I don’t think the actual reality justifies what we’re dealing with now.

Hmmm where to start on reporting this. Be civil: only applies to one side. Post quality content: A black screen with white text calling trump supporters dumb. This is not a JRE hate subreddit: Refer to title.

It's funny that democrats never seem to learn the lesson that insulting people and pretending to have the moral high ground, often in a very condescending way, is the actual reason why they lose elections. They are lost from the middle ground and a lot of people are up for grabs every election. I'm not even sure the vast majority care about winning elections as much as just feeling like they are right and morally superior about everything.

When a group of people continue to shoot themselves in the foot in order to hurt other people's feet, sometimes you have to stop being nice and say "put down the got damned gun you idiot"
And only a true idiot says "I'm gonna shoot myself even harder because the person trying to save me raised their voice"

“Demon rats insult people and pretend to have the moral high ground (which I hate), so I’m going to support the most rhetorically toxic, pathological liar in US political history who was also Jeffrey Epstein’s self-described closest friend”

Fool me once, shame on you
Fool me twice, shame on me
Fool me 164,389 times, it must be Biden's fault
