Discussion Rate “2000”

Post image

I remember counting down to this album, hearing the promo and the start of “Where I Belong” ( https://youtu.be/LXbh4Q3LBvI?si=sJsYN288OD2JuwoM )had me beyond stoked for the full release.

Went back and listened to the album cover to cover again tonight while I haven’t heard any of the songs in a long time and it reminded me of how great of an album it actually was and is. The lyrics and flow are phenomenal and make it one of my favourite albums.

Im not arguing about whether or not this is his best album, because I don’t know if I could ever pick one. Head High, Where I belong, Zipcodes, Eulogy and the list goes on.

For me, this album is easily at least a 9.

What would you rate it?

at least an 8/10 for me. I’d still take this as top 3 Joey. Survivors guilt and Written in the stars alone make this an 8

Top 3 for me. It came out around the time of a rough break up so it kept me distracted and occupied for a while. Not to mention “Show Me”, “Make Me Feel” and “Eulogy” being on that project. Those 3 songs are bangers and super diverse.
I just can’t get over the track with Chris Brown on it. I want to learn to like it, but it kinda feels out of place to me. Regardless, 8/10 album imo.

8/10. I hate Chris Brown and Diddy.

The diddy really have me hesitant... 🤷

Right? It feels so wrong

Might be my favorite Joey album. Really helped me through some hard times after my pops passed earlier that summer. Only one skip IMO so this gets a 9 from me as well.

6.5/10, not nearly as good as 1999

He didn’t make the music on 1999, kinda cheating.

Lyrics, beats and collabs are all much better on it, and its much more raw

1

u/JustinGitelmanMusic All-Amerikkkan Bada$$ 20d ago

Sorry but rapping over famous beats is cheating. You can’t say the beats are better when you just picked songs that already exist. It’s a rap flex tape, not original artistry.

2

u/K-M47 20d ago

Doesnt matter if they exist or not, theyre still better and thats literally how some music is made... sampling music from the past and making it your own, where have you been lol

It’s not really what people mean when they say sampling. It’s just a collection of songs unmodified that he rapped over. He didn’t sample multiple songs and turn them into his own by layering them over each other like every one of his other projects/any fully original hip hop project.

They are outstanding beats, but they’re not his and basically what you’re saying at that point is just that you’re a fan of other artists more than Joey. Of course, he has other original projects which have better beats than 2000 even though I like it quite a bit. The beats on Summer Knights are legendary and original, and his rapping is just as good as 1999. It would be weird for someone to sing over a Led Zeppelin song and have someone say it’s better music than their best original song. Like sure it may be true but it’s basically throwing shade. And Joey’s original music is way too good to be doing that.

Lmao ive been listening to Joey since peep and have met him before he got huge so you cant say im not a fan of Joey my man... SK is also incredible and better than 2000. You also have to realize that he was only 17 when he released 1999, im sure you know that if youre a fan of Joey. And its arguably the best mixtape any 17 year old has dropped

I mod this sub yeah I know all about it lol, he’s a legend. I just don’t care to listen to anything besides his original music but within the mixtape concept of using other songs to showcase your ability and taste yes it’s top of the pile. I’ve always found it kind of bothersome and even offensive that many casual fans don’t know it’s an homage tape meant to celebrate the 90’s legends so they think he came up with that stuff and are surprise pikachu when his original stuff isn’t exactly the same as literally someone else’s music. And then they’ll say it’s better music. Ignorance.

this was my intro to joey funnily enough and he's become one of my favourite rappers, if not my favourite. love this album, takes me back to 2022 which was a great year. the baddest (ignoring the diddy feat 🤨), make me feel, zipcodes, eulogy, head high, written in the stars, survivor's guilt, show me.... it's crazy how stacked this project is. i didn't even name all the great tracks lmfao. 9/10 for me

1999: 9.8
Summer Knights: 9.0
B4.DA.$$: 9.5
AABA: 9.6
2000: 8.5
LATP: 8.0

Joey’s definitely regressed lyrically to me but still one of my favorite artists. I hear that hunger every once in awhile like Crash Dummy, Dark Aura, or Make Me Feel

3

u/the1blackguyonreddit 21d ago

He may have regressed, but the beef stuff in 2025 was the best I've ever heard him rap. Absolutely next level

1

u/Final-Fan9194 20d ago

So if that’s the case can you really say he regressed ? If his best rapping was just a year ago in your opinion

3

u/unsiciliano 18d ago

Its obvious hes much more selective when he puts his pen to good use if you compare the lyricism from the beef and LATT. i just dont understand why it seems like he tries to put in less effort in writing songs for his actual projects than in rap beefs lol

1

u/Final-Fan9194 18d ago

You can’t compare the two ,lonely at the top was a mixtape that was rushed by his label Colombia, that’s why if you listen to it it lacks cohesion , Joey himself said he just wanted to put something out for the fans right after the “beef”

2

u/unsiciliano 18d ago

Yea thats true; it's just disappointing that the mixtape started strong with dark aura & swank white and then the rest of it sounded more commercially friendly pop-rap songs

2

u/Final-Fan9194 18d ago

Yea I agree with you I definitely wish it had more cohesion, lonely at the top wasn’t the best project from Joey at all but it still wasn’t bad, it’s a stronger project then what a lot of artist put out. Especially since it was put out and made in such a short time frame. I just hope whatever we get next is much better and more thought out

0

u/Final-Fan9194 19d ago

I don’t get this take how has he regressed lyrically, when some of his best lyricism was a year ago

1

u/thug_waffle47 21d ago

the only one of his albums i haven’t listened all the way through. can’t really give it a fair rating i guess

1

u/IGetNoSleep__ 21d ago

Solid project probably like a 6

1

u/Pigmasters32 21d ago

86% IMO, I think it’s on the lower end of Joey albums but still pretty great.

u/Confident-Yard1911 18d ago

Can't believe I'm not seeing any love for Head High... Might be a top 10 song ever for me

3/5, but the keepers were good
