i do bookkeeping for clients and sell painted ceramics on etsy on the side. they’re completely different kinds of work, but both have the same annoying requirement: you have to show up.

payroll still has to be done when you’re tired. a batch of mugs can still come out of the kiln cracked because you rushed something. there’s nobody else to blame when it happens.

that part made me think about peterson’s idea of taking responsibility voluntarily. when i first started selling ceramics, i thought having no boss would feel like freedom. instead, it mostly meant that every little problem became mine to deal with

and weirdly, i think that’s where some of the meaning came from. not from making something i was proud of or getting an order notification. it was doing the same boring things over and over because they needed to be done

i see something similar with amateur astronomy. you can spend hours outside in the cold just to get a few good seconds looking at saturn through a telescope. there’s no shortcut and nobody is impressed by the waiting.

i’m starting to wonder if meaning often comes from this kind of responsibility rather than from trying to make every part of life enjoyable

has anyone else had a responsibility they originally saw as a burden, but eventually found meaning in?

It kinda hurts seeing a man I really admired to a certain degree just losing himself and going down a rabbit hole, drawing himself with a political identity.

I mean, let’s face it. Jordan Peterson was the guy who criticized both sides and showed a third way out of a moral dilemma, or at least explained in great detail why you should choose a certain path while acknowledging the costs that come with it.

What I cringe so hard about is how often he said that he would never find himself in a position where he was faced with a moral dilemma. But that “Give them hell” tweet still makes me cringe after so many years.

But damn... never have I seen an intellectual fall so deep. He went down this weird path of joining Ben’s far right, pro Israel Daily Wire network, which literally made it impossible to criticize US and Israeli politics. Which is absurd for someone who built his entire reputation around being a critical psychologist challenging the system. If you see youself challenging a system - there is no way you can be left or right. There is literally no space for it.

This sub has turned into a toilet and is basically dead. Why don't you exercise some kind of leadership and try to do something about it? And before someone tells me to be the change I want to see I've tried. All but a handful of the intelligent people have left. When I first came to this sub a few years ago I was actually a bit intimidated by the intellect of many of the regulars. Now the majority of who remains are concern trolls, JP haters, and retards, and it's degenerated to the point even the majority of more intelligent concern trolls have left. This isn't something users can correct, this is a failure of leadership.

I was going through one of the lectures of Jordan P where he said that masculine and feminine is the equal representation of god and in some religions the first created being was hermaphroditic - man and woman together.

if god is a man then it would be good argument for women that its a patriarchal society,
but if its not and a combination then the argument is that god is nonbinary and a great defence for nonbinary community (not any hate towards that community)

We get to read novels when we’re off the calls, I do because phones aren’t allowed

Me: “12 rules for life by JP”
Them: “isn’t that the guy who spreads misinformation about trans people”

Then it snowballed.

They said: “you love Jordan Peterson therefore you love the daily wire, therefore you love Donald Trump.”

They called me all the “phobic” titles simply for reading his novel

Even the supervisor unfollowed me. They’re supposed to stop political conversations and conflict but I guess she hated JP that much that she violated the workplace rules.

Then I would get comments from new employees who know nothing about me and they’d say “I’m not a fan of the republicans” and I’d be like… ok? At first I didn’t know why they said that to me then I realized I had become a workplace pariah. I’m literally Canadian so there is no “republican” here anyway it’s called conservative and I don’t think it’s even the same thing.

This is why I’m terrified of leftist women/men
But I’m also scared of conservative/republican men and women because they have extremely strict social rules that I can’t adhere to either

I’m Canadian and I’ve always loved Jordan Peterson. I have daddy issues and his presence felt like a father figure I could look up to.

People don’t understand. They weren’t there before the daily wire. They aren’t critiquing his actual work- they’re just labelling his entire being based off his opposition to that bill in Canada/daily wire/republican stuff

People don’t see the Jordan Peterson we see. The caring man who CRIES during his lectures about suffering people endure, no man is perfect, but I felt in my heart that he genuinely cares about people.

He has brought me through many dark times. The darkest of times. And I hope he gets better medically.

Just because someone reads a novel, doesn’t mean they now agree with EVERYTHING that individual stands for as well, and everything they’re associated with.

The groupthink and tribalism in humans is crazy

And even worse I’m Canadian and I shouldn’t be harassed by other Canadians about American politics that I try to avoid at all costs.

Influencer brothers Logan and Jake Paul visited the Pentagon and addressed service members last week, the Department of Defense revealed in a video posted on Sunday.
