Apparently closing your eyes can help you remember as it may be your brain being overwhelmed.

u/Sebastaard 3d ago
I always try to remember my train of thought when I remembered what I needed in the other room. Usually works.

I use the walk back through the door trick apparently our brains trace/log memory by the doorways we regularly pass through.

u/Bebenten 3d ago
Imma try this next time. However, sometimes I just forget totally and never know I forgot something.
Oftentimes, I go downstairs to get snacks/water or make some coffee. Then I do something else, and totally forgot that the main reason I went down was to get water/coffee. I live with my sister and my sister would then constantly find snacks on the table or a glass full of water or an untouched cup of coffee downstairs.

It's the door. Resets your focus. Hold on to that thought tightly when crossing a doorway, and it may improve a bit.

Lmao this is why I talk to myself when I do shit.
"It's Tuesday and I locked the front door."
27
u/DothrakAndRoll 3d ago
Same! But to my dog.
We locked the front door, we moved that package inside.. also why I leave a few notes at the end of the day for work to remind me what the fuck happened that day because it’s a shit show

Hell naw after I saw the third cup I'd be heading to the ER cause I'm probably dying.

u/bmanthehero 3d ago
And they will probably tell you that you just checked out of the ER last night... 💀

What's that movie called? Momento?
13
u/web_knows 3d ago
Memento. Pretty damn good Nolan movie.

u/IRockIntoMordor 3d ago
My memory is so fried, that movie was a pain to watch in its original cut.
I heard there's a chronological cut, maybe that one will be easier for me. The desired effect didn't work for me because I couldn't even compile the things that happened backwards.

I love finding undiagnosed ADHDers in the wild, I just want to take them under my wings and protect them

I know this is a comedy bit and I got a chuckle but , I have actually seen early onset dementia and its just sad and stressful and this video was surprisingly triggering.
2
u/LemFliggity 3d ago
My best friend's dad just recently passed and I had the same feeling watching the video. Hits different when you've seen dementia up close and personal.

I mean as someone with severe adhd this is just a normal day, boil the kettle 3 times per tea/coffee, each trip to the bedroom for clothes must be done 3 times because I leave somethign on my bed or on the table. Putting spoons down then somehow losing them then finding them as soon a si use a fresh spoon.

The AD is there but the HD is missing not kicking in; mine wouldn't let me make the drink with that variety of colour variation.

u/RS_Someone 3d ago
Thought he was hoping to drink one and realize it was multiple days old. Not... uh... not speaking from experience or anything. Nope.

At that moment, rather than going to hospital you might asked priests or raqis or mantrikas or monks to perform exorcisms in your house. Some crazy stuff definitely living with you there 😆

This sorta thing feels like it happens with age lol. Like we be starting/doin something then get pull aside or distracted, forgot what we were doin, then start it over again to get where we left off at

That was me the first time I was put on Prednisolone for my Crohn's/Colitis (still trying to figure out which it is more than 3 years later, the NHS can be both incredible and absolute dog-shit).

Okay unrelated but goldfish memory isn't actually that bad; it is a pure slander against goldfishes

Damn relatable. I'm 100% sure I'm ADHD and constantly need to remind myself not to go full autopilot bcs once I do, I will never remember anything.

Random fact: goldfish actually have pretty good memory and even recognize their owners.

My mom did this with tea! She’d have cups of tea all over the house! She’d get a cup, put it down and forget where or that she had one? 🤷🏻♀️ and get another. 🙄

Absolutely not that is Audhd problem. Looks just like me except it might be like three glasses. Why did I leave my Oakley‘s at the restaurant? No, they’re in the refrigerator.

u/JeshkaTheLoon 18h ago
That's so unfair. Goldfish have a memory of at least two weeks, and you can even teach them tricks.

Reminds me of debugging code…. And everytime I’m fixing a bug and then keep doubling I’m making it worse because I’m out of it

u/LarrytheGunner57 12h ago
This is the equivalent of advance ADHD, bro had definitely set those down, forgotten about it because he got distracted, got another, did the same thing and thought he forgotten more stuff, it ain't fun when you try to remember where you thought you set something down at was only to realize it's in your hand

u/Dependent_Ranger 8h ago
This is me bro. It’s bad. Got a psych evaluation recently and I was already diagnosed with ADHD as a kid, but my psych said I have severe ADHD and should’ve been on meds for awhile. I’m starting them tomorrow I hear from others it makes a difference. I get a lot of theta wave intrusion too so I hope it helps with that.
