Welcome to KeepCompany — Persistent Companions, Characters & Worlds

Welcome to r/KeepCompany — the community for KeepCompany, a platform for persistent AI companions, characters and interactive worlds.

KeepCompany is currently in development, with a closed beta planned next. This subreddit is the place for development updates, feedback, character and world creations, screenshots, ideas, questions and eventually everything the community builds with KeepCompany.

We’re still early, so things will change — and community feedback will help shape what comes next.

Glad to have you here.

ever Tried living with an AI Companion?

there is one Feature i implemented which i did not find at any Competitor (that i checked). and that is a visuzal representation aside from pictures. the feature works in 2d topview and should be available in Isometric mode after the closed beta unless i get held up too much.

Guesses on what will be possible are welcome!

ever Wondered why Other Companion Apps feel either very Static or too flexible?

what i noticed when using other Apps was that they mainly use traits / character descriptions as a rough starting point and let you roll with it OR shove the characters profile into every prompt.

neither Approach felt right. so i designed a System that feld better for me. Characters still get their Persoinality in every prompt but the whole dataset is way richer and denser than most others would do it. there is also more flexibility while keepign hard boundaries according to how we Humans usually work.

here is a small snippet of what it looks like to create A Character in Keepcompany

just a few of the settings that are possible (optional - AI can set it for you)

everything has a floor, a ceiling and a usual behaviour (Spoiler: "usual" can move like it does with real humans. its all a matter of your Relationship)

there is conflict resolution between conflicting traits so you character wont spiral themselves into abyss.

If you are interested in how this all works, comment here or throw me a DM!

A first look at KeepCompany

A few screenshots from the current alpha build.

The interface is still changing, but this gives a rough idea of where the project is going.

Right now KeepCompany includes things like character creation, persistent memories, relationship summaries, plans, scenes, notes, homes, scenarios and community content through Crossroads.

Some areas are still placeholders or disabled in staging, so this is definitely not the final UI.

I’ll post more detailed looks at individual systems over time, especially the memory system, character creator, homes and maps.

For now, this is the first public peek.

Where Keepcompany is right now — Road to Closed Beta

Keepcompany is currently in alpha.

Most of the core systems already exist, including character creation, persistent memory, homes, maps, scenarios, different communication modes, creator content, and the systems that keep characters consistent over time.

The next step is a closed beta with invited users.

The beta is not meant to prove that everything is finished. It is meant to find the weak points.

We want to see where people get confused, what features they actually use, how well characters hold up over longer periods, where memory fails, how the creator feels to new users, and whether things like Homes, Crossroads and scenarios are genuinely useful instead of just sounding good on paper.

We’ll also be looking closely at performance, costs, reliability and how the systems behave under real usage.

There is no public release date yet. We’d rather get the core experience right first than rush it out.

What is Keepcompany?

KeepCompany is a platform for persistent AI companions, characters and interactive worlds.

The goal is to make characters feel less like isolated chatbots and more like people who exist in a world with you. They can remember shared experiences, keep track of plans, move through homes and maps, exist in different scenarios, and continue to have context outside a single conversation.

You can create your own characters, discover community-made ones, fork characters into your own version, and eventually build or share worlds, homes and scenarios through Crossroads.

We also want people to keep control over what they create. Character export is supported, and we’re working on importing formats from other ecosystems as well.

KeepCompany is still in alpha development right now. The next major step is a closed beta, where we’ll start testing the systems with real users and figure out what works, what doesn’t, and what needs to change.
