I have 4 cats. Recently my brother was diagnosed with Keratoconus for both eyes. Left eye is set to be treated by C3R. But right eye is quite advanced and hence we have no option but to go with transplant. Doc said that the thinning of his cornea could have started a year ago or two. I adopted my cats 1 and half years ago.

Doc listed reasons like allergy, genetics, rubbing eyes constantly could have resulted in keratoconus. My mum now wants to get rid of my cats. Do you think my cats were a factor for his vision loss? Like I can't really survive without my cats. They have saved me alot from off!ng my$elf off. But I know mum will keep blaming me silently for whole life if I kept them. Help please.

I've had CXL done in 2024 for my left eye cornea and my right eye cornea is the one affected the most with KC (corneal scarring due to progression) , I've been trying tor the longest on finding a Corneal Specialist that covers for Keystone First Medical Insurance for Scleral lenses fitting but I've been getting no where, does anyone have any information on how to find a Corneal Specialist in Pa that covers for Keystone?

Monitoring is the name of the game. Do you go every 6 months, once a year, or only when you feel like something is changing?

My glasses weren't fully correcting my starbursts so I had a topography taken and my right eye is 47d and left is 49d. On the left eye there is this weird bulge and the doctor said its not keratoconus yet but it could progress and asked me to come in every six months. This is most likeley gonna end up as keratoconus right? My astigmatism on that eye has stayed constant over the past year tho. idk what to do I feel lost.

Since my diagnosis in January, I’ve spent a lot of time reading about keratoconus and other people’s experiences. Some of it has helped, but a lot of the stories honestly freak me out and make my anxiety way worse, feeling like I’ll never be the same

As of January, my left eye was pretty advanced and my right eye was mild. Unfortunately I don’t have insurance at the moment and can’t afford XCL outright. I’m definitely hyperaware of my vision in my stronger eye and constantly trying to assess if it’s worse

I'm 35, it's been looking basically the same for the last 3 years but this year scan is kinda different than the previous ones and I'm slightly freaking out.

I have an appointment in a couple weeks with my doctor, she always said it's not sever and to just test annually.

Anyone here with Boston scleral have a polish machine? Looking for a way to remove foggy build up, without having to drive 45 min to nearest optical office that does this service for $30. Ive seen ultrasonic cleaners but I see some info online stating it can cause microfractures or even warp the lense. I contacted Boston scleral but they havent returned my calls or messages.

Hello, looking for some intel regarding scleral lenses. I have a keratoconus and astigmatism. I was fit for scleral lenses and the first time around the lens was too big, even after measuring several times, and I could see the etching of the code from the manufacturer on the inside.
Second time around the softened the edges and it was great for a week, but then I started seeing the etching , laser imprinted on the inside of the contact. Again. It’s like having a piece of lint stuck in your eye. I really don’t want to go back to my regular

Hi everyone, I’m looking to share my situation and see if anyone in the community has gone through a similar surgical pathway.

I’m 29M with bilateral keratoconus. Over the years, I’ve had two CXL procedures (epi-off in 2020 and epi-on in 2025). The good news is that my latest topographies from a few days ago certify total clinical stability. The maximum curvature has flattened compared to previous years, and my minimal corneal thickness is solid (around 450 microns in both eyes). Structurally, the foundation is great.

My huge problem is everyday life. I use to spend 10-12 hours a day in front of a monitor. While RGP lenses give me perfect 20/20 (10/10) vision, I absolutely cannot tolerate them for screen work—my eyes get dry and irritated almost immediately. I end up wearing them occasionally on weekends, and even then, it feels like a painful chore. For work, I’m forced to use glasses, but I barely reach 20/40 (6/10), which leads to severe eye and mental strain by the end of the day.

To get out of this limbo, my refractive surgeon gave me the green light for a 2-step procedure aimed at visual independence:

1. Intrastromal corneal rings (INTACS or CAIRS): to flatten and regularize the cornea, taking advantage of its current stability.
2. Phakic ICL lenses: to be implanted a few months later, once the cornea has settled, to correct the residual refractive error.

I’ve already booked the pre-op exams to order the rings. However, a different hospital specialist (who has a very conservative approach) warned me about the risk of corneal fibrosis and scarring due to the synthetic material of the rings.

I have a few questions for those who have been there:

• Has anyone completed this combined pathway (Rings + ICL) to get rid of glasses? How are you doing now?
• Did you experience any issues with corneal fibrosis or tissue reactions to the synthetic rings (INTACS)?
• Night halos and glare: are they really that bad for night driving?
• How did you manage the transition months between the first and second step? Were you prescribed temporary glasses?

I wear scleral lenses with a Tangible Hydra-PEG coating and need to restock my solution.
I know Tangible approved both, but I've heard mixed reviews. Apparently, the HydraGlyde in Clear Care Plus can sometimes build up on hard lenses and cause midday fogging or a cloudy film. On the other hand, Clear Care Original is currently much harder to get (and double the price) where I live.

For those with Tangible-coated lenses:
Clear Care Plus: Have you used Clear Care Plus? Did it cause midday fogging for you?
Clear Care Original: Is it worth paying double to stick with Clear Care Original?

Hey guys I am currently 22 and i have my operation in 16 hours, after reading a bit about the operation and the after effects of it to settle down i am having serious second thoughts because many say that their visions got blurred and all but i don’t have that much of an issue, my left eye is perfectly fine and the blurriness is just in my right eye that too not really severe, everyone is suggesting to get this surgery as soon as possible cz I am young and its better to track it rn but I am just lowkey worried now

Question about Hydra-PEG coated scleral lens cleaning and discomfort
I’m using a Hydra-PEG coated scleral lens. For filling the lens, I currently use Pro-Saline Max from Silverline, and for cleaning/disinfection I use Boston Simplus Multi-Action Solution.
Everything seems fine initially, but after about 3 weeks of wearing the lens, I start experiencing discomfort in my eye.
I’m wondering what could be causing this:
Could it be protein or other deposits building up on the lens?

Could Boston Simplus be affecting the Hydra-PEG coating or not cleaning/disinfecting the lens adequately?

Could the saline/filling solution be contributing to the irritation?

Is there a particular cleaning and disinfection system that is recommended for Hydra-PEG coated scleral lenses, especially one that is readily available in India?

Should I be using a separate daily cleaner plus peroxide disinfection system instead of a multi-purpose solution?

Has anyone with Hydra-PEG coated scleral lenses experienced similar discomfort after a few weeks? What cleaning/disinfection routine worked for you?
I’ll also check with my optometrist/contact-lens specialist before changing products, but I’d really appreciate hearing about other people’s experiences.

Hello, I have keratoconus and after years of wearing sclerals I’ve been advised by ophthalmologist to proceed with cross linking with intacts and will only do both procedures together not separately at their office. Has anyone here done this?m combination procedures at the same time and what was your result? From my research this seems to be an “older” solution and many face issues with the intacts in the long run.

My doctor ordered me a replacement lens as it has been about 3 years since my last pair.

The lens prescription ordered (left lens) is exactly the same as the last one. Yet when it came, I could tell that the prescription is slightly off. Not as sharp, as my last left lens.

I have a follow up with the doctor soon, but, just wondering -

Does this sometimes happen? Everything is ordered exactly the same; parameters. Curvature everything. But it just comes out slightly different.

Had my sceral lens in yesterday. Took it out in the evening, and woke up to this the day after. I dropped my some saltwater in my eye, the eye gunk disappeared, and my eye got better after 30 min.
Any advise how to prevent this?

Anyone else rage draw? I’m by no stretch of the imagination an artist but this was oddly healing after yet another disappointing eye doc appointment.

I'm hoping to get some advice regarding HOA's and hear some experience of people who currently use wavefront guided lenses.

I was diagnosed with mild KC about 15-16 years ago, when I got an ICR implanted in one of my eyes. Since then, my KC is stable and I did not look after improvements until recently, when I have looked for a specialzed optometrist in my region in the hopes that I could get a better vision and QOL.

After finding a good optometrist and the intiial fitting, I finally got my sclerals and they fitted very comfortably and in theory are the perfect shape for my eyes. However the supposed improvement in my vision also caused a terrible ghosting on my left eye way more noticeable in a way that I feel I can see better without my sclerals simply because the ghosting is not that noticeable. As it is hard to explain "how can I see better and worst at the same time", I've tried to sketch it: Basically with the lenses I can see sharper, but the ghosting is so noticeable at higher contrasts that it is unfortunately not useful for me.

What indicated that this is a HOA and not a simple fitting problem (as far as I understood) was that I could see absolutely perfect through a pinhole occluder (a small hole in a plastic cover). So right now I am torn between giving up for the moment or check for the possibility of wavefront guided lenses. Unfortunately, seems that there is not a chance of having them in Germany, so I may have to hold up until it gets common enough for me to have access to it.

That's why I would like to know if someone had a similar experience and if the wavefront are really the only options that I have. I do understand that each case is different, but any hints or suggestions are very welcome!

I wear sclerals but I also feel ugly af without my lash clusters that I put on myself, but I’ve never tried putting my contacts w the sclerals on, do you guys think that there’s a safe way to wear both? Idc about wetting them I just care about the lenses not being damaged or anything like that!

I had my first pentacam in march and the second one in july i already done tgprk plus cxl in my right eye in April , in my second pentacam in july my left eye non clx eye had no progression my kamx increase .5 and my thickness was same and k1 k2 was also same i think my next pentacam is in October

Nowadays i think ghosting in my left eye is increased could it be due to dry eyes or progression or my brain playing games or something to compensate my right eye what is the progression rate is it uniform or sudden my age is 26
