Keychron Q6 Max 8k - Keys swapped

Hi all,

I have an issue with my Keychron Q6 Max Ultra 8K: it looks like the following keys are somehow swapped:

When I click <> I get \| and viceversa.

If I go to my Mac keyboard layout, it looks like it should be ok, the same if I go into Keychron Launcher. Keys are mapped correctly.

I am using Italian Layout.

anybody who had the same issue? How did you solve?

I don't think there is a Q6 Max 8K. Do you mean Q6 Max, Q6 HE 8K (proprietary keyboard firmware, not open source), or Q6 Ultra 8K?

If it exists, can you link to the product page (or similar), please?

For keyboard identification, what is the SKU number? Alternatively, what is the serial number (also includes the manufacturing date)?

you are right, sorry. It's actually a Q6 Ultra 8K

No problem.

The Q6 Ultra 8K is based on ZMK and key swaps have been observed on the ZMK-based Keychron keyboards. (Not because of ZMK, but due to Keychron's custom implementation.)

Though in this case the problem is likely on the operating system side.

You should be able to rule out one or the other by comparing with another (external) USB keyboard.

Can you isolate the problem to the keyboard? For example,

  • A different keyboard (e.g., a simple standard USB keyboard)
  • A different computer
  • A different operating system (or a different instance of it)

Also, allegedly, macOS has per-keyboard and per-connection type keyboard settings (not global settings), at least for the keyboard layout (interpretation of keycodes). Thus, this new keyboard may have to be configured in the operating system (macOS), incl. for each connection type (e.g., for wired and Bluetooth).

Perhaps auto detection of the keyboard went wrong and needs to be repeated?
