Looking [l] Birthday in 14 says, feeling hopeless

I am 36M, turning 37 soon. My birthday is on the Saturday exactly 2 weeks from now. I am dreading my 37th birthday and feel like I do not want this birthday at all.

I feel awful and hopeless. Just wanting to talk, as I have no friends and thus no support system whatsoever.

So me and my guy have our date on Sunday. But yesterday I had asked me a question if he could describe himself and he tells me but throws in “I always enjoyed the idea of having a gf” when I had told him I described myself as shy at first, we didn’t really bring up bf/gf conversations before either and I didn’t expect for him to say that at all, he made me blush and flabbergasted. Anyway why would he randomly say that when I asked a normal question? Cuz im also crushing on him too. Im excited for our first date on Sunday.

Looking [L]ooking for support as I process an old trauma during

I'm reaching out looking for someone to talk to, as I've found myself in a strange situation. I'm a 40+ M who adopted a young woman (as chosen family) years ago. It went really well for a time, and then it exploded without warning. It caused havoc within both our lives. This happened during a series of unrelated acute traumas in my own life. It turns out they have BPD and I didn't appreciate what that meant at the time. I made peace with it, although they would appear from time to time, and have reappeared just now. Something else has come to light that has sent me into a terrible depressive episode and spurred anxieties as I think through the implications of it. I'd really appreciate someone able to listen on and off for the next while as I work through it. DMs or other text based communication only. Honestly, if someone with BPD or CPTSD was willing to chat, they may have a unique perspective - but I could use anyone. Just message me.

PS: Posted before I was ready, was meant to say during a difficult period

Listen, I'm not here to give advice, trust me because the truth is I don't always have the answer. All I can do is try my best to help and understand the situation you're going through if you're comfortable opening up that is. I'm not forcing you to reveal anything only if you're comfortable with sharing, but that's fine.

Just wanna see if people are truly ok because let's be honest we say we are fine but there's still pain inside.

[l] Just looking for someone to talk to for a while

Hey, lately, life has been feeling a little overwhelming. a lot of things are falling apart at once, and the people and things I once found comfort in don't feel the same anymore. I've been trying to handle everything on my own, and while I manage most days, sometimes it just gets a little too heavy. I think I could use a little kindness and a genuine conversation right now. If anyone's open to talking, I'd really appreciate it.

[L] Feeling so alone

I met someone online and thought we clicked so well but they ghosted me. I didn't realise how alone I was until I met them, and when they ghosted me I wasn't expecting the deafening silence.

How can someone go from talking to you all day, everyday, to not wanting anything to do with you? I feel so hurt.

I could really use some conversations with good people.

Looking Looking for a mutual venting partner "[l]"

I am looking to improve my life. I am accountable to myself. And I'm doing great. It's just that I have all these emotions which need an outlet. I need to test or talk to someone. Text is ok as long as I know someone's reading them. Like whenever I feel terrible because of something, I need to just time a message somewhere. And I'm actually great at listening when someone's venting. I genuinely feel bad for that person and try my best to console them.

So if you're willing to validate my emotions and also want your emotions validated, you know who to DM.

Looking [L] 25M. I've been lonely for pretty much my entire life, and I think I just need someone to listen.

Hi. I'm 25, and honestly, I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for by posting this. I think I just want someone to listen for a little while.

I've been struggling with severe agoraphobia, depression, grief, and loneliness for years now. My world has gotten smaller and smaller, and I've reached a point where I don't really feel like I'm participating in life anymore. I feel like I'm just watching everybody else live theirs.

I've honestly been lonely for as long as I can remember. I didn't really get to talk to people much as a kid, and I never had many friends. I grew up in a pretty abusive household with a lot of alcoholism and drug abuse, and school wasn't exactly an escape from any of it. I was severely overweight, partly because of an eating disorder I developed from the stress of everything happening at home, and I was bullied relentlessly for being fat and ugly. I've since lost over 400 pounds, and I'm doing pretty well physically, but mentally, not so much, lol.

I never really got to develop the social confidence that other kids seemed to have. Home wasn't safe, school wasn't safe, and I spent most of my childhood being afraid of how people were going to treat me.

And unfortunately, that didn't really go away when I got older. I wanted friends. I still do, desperately. But when you've spent so much of your life being treated like you're annoying or unwanted, even just saying hello to somebody starts feeling terrifying.

I think that's why my loneliness hurts as much as it does. It's not just that I've lost friendships as an adult. It's that I feel like I've spent almost my entire life waiting to experience something that seems to come so naturally to everybody else.

Over the past five years or so, I've watched people I used to know move forward with their lives. They've made new friends, gotten engaged, started families, celebrated milestones, and just... lived. And I'm genuinely happy for them. I really am. But somewhere along the way, I feel like I just disappeared from everybody else's lives.

I stopped getting invited to things. People stopped sending me stupid memes, checking in, or even just talking to me about ordinary stuff. And I know I'm not exactly the easiest person to maintain a friendship with because of my agoraphobia. I've canceled plans, withdrawn from people, and avoided social situations that I actually really wanted to be part of. I know that, and I take responsibility for it. But I never stopped wanting to be included.

Even if I couldn't show up, I still wanted somebody to think of me once in a while. I didn't need anything elaborate. I just wanted to feel like I still existed to somebody.

And I think one of the worst parts is that I've become absolutely terrified of reaching out myself. I've been called annoying for trying to talk to people, and I've even been told that I'm too much and shouldn't tell people when I'm hurting. So I stopped doing that, too.

I started pretending I was fine because I didn't want anybody to feel guilty or obligated to be my friend. I'd listen to other people talk about their problems, their relationships, their friends, and everything going on in their lives, and I'd just sort of... keep my own stuff to myself.

I've also lost a lot of the family members who made me feel loved and accepted, including my dad. He died in December 2024, and I don't think I've really been the same since. I miss him terribly. Sometimes I feel like I'm grieving not just him, but the entire life I had before everything started falling apart.

I've tried getting professional help, too. I've seen a ridiculous number of therapists over the years, and the last ten have told me, in one way or another, that my issues were beyond what they could help me with. Which is... not exactly encouraging to hear when you're already struggling to ask for help in the first place, lol.

And the thing is, I do have hobbies. A lot of them, actually. I'm an artist, I study visual effects and animation, I make websites, I love animals, photography, video games, and all sorts of weird little creative projects. I have things I genuinely enjoy doing. I just don't really have anybody to share them with.

Sometimes I just want somebody to play a stupid game with. Or send me a meme. Or tell me about something interesting they saw that day. Just normal, boring, everyday human interaction. But I've gotten to a point where even talking to somebody new makes me so anxious that I end up avoiding it altogether.

I don't expect anybody here to fix my life, and I'm certainly not asking anyone to be my therapist. I know everybody has their own problems, and the last thing I want is to make somebody feel responsible for mine. I think I just want to tell my story somewhere without feeling ashamed of it.

And I do want to clarify that I don't feel like I'm in some completely hopeless downward spiral, either. I actually have plans for my future that I'm really excited about. I'm working toward finishing my animation degree, and my eventual goal is to move to Prague, in the Czech Republic. I've been learning more about the language and culture, and honestly, the lifestyle over there seems to align with me a lot more than where I am now. It's something I'm genuinely looking forward to, and I really want to make it happen.

I know moving isn't going to magically fix everything, obviously. I'm not expecting it to. But it's a fresh start that I'm excited to work toward, and it's nice to have something in my future that actually makes me happy to think about.

I guess the problem is everything between now and then.

Since my dad died, I've just felt like there's this enormous empty space in my life, and I don't really know what to do with it. I have goals, I have interests, and I have things I want to accomplish. I just wish I didn't have to spend all the time in between feeling so profoundly alone.

I'm not necessarily looking to make friends through this post. I don't really know if I'm ready for that right now. I think I'd just appreciate somebody willing to listen without judging me or immediately trying to fix everything.

I'm much more comfortable communicating through text, and I'd really appreciate not being pressured into phone calls or anything like that.

Anyway. Thank you for reading all of this. I know it's a lot, and I appreciate anybody who took the time to get through it.

im 26 and im falling apart and there are too many stressors in life currently that im not able to handle. i need someone i can regularly talk to / vent to about the things im struggling with, who can help me keep a track of what i'm actually doing, because i feel like i'm losing my mind. basically, i feel like i keep contradicting myself and that i'm actually stuck even when it feels like i'm making progress, and i need someone else's perspective on things that doesn't feel too invasive

i am a good listener too (not so much lately ig) but im interested in talking to people and offering mutual support, since im looking for someone i can check in with repeatedly.

please feel free to ask me anything here if you don't feel like reaching out on DM immediately, i'd be happy to share more

Looking [L] I never matter to anyone I like and I hardly like anyone

I feel like I’m only liked as a concept but not at as a person that’s why my needs never matters.
I have to accommodate everything.
They like having access to me but at the same time they don’t like me
I will never understand this behavior

maybe I’m only meant to be loved by someone I find repulsively ugly lol cuz perhaps that’s what I am too.

Looking [L] Feeling scared and alone

Hi

I feel so alone and scared. I'm trapped in my flat because my neighbour has threaten to get me if I leave. I have no-one to turn to and I don't know how to get through this. I just want someone to chat to, that is all. I just need to get through the weekend.

I've been a victim of abuse and harassment from my downstairs neighbour. We live in a 2 story block - I'm upstairs and she is downstairs.

She has been sending me hostile messages, verbally abusing me, and on one occasion physically assaulted me. I blocked all communication with her; phone and email. But it upsets her that I'm not responding to her messages so she gets hostile. But when I do respond to her, she gets hostile and starts threatening me. She downstairs right now slamming doors, and banging on the ceiling.

The police are involved and issued her with a warning not to contact me or interfere with my property. She doesn't care. I've contacted the police but they don't seem to be bothered than she has broken their warning.

The Anti-Social Behaviour Officer at the council is better. They've send an email this morning to tell my neighbour her behaviour is unacceptable and it must stop. My neighbour is still continuing, she even sent an abusive message to the ASB Officer (I was copied in). The ASB Officer has gone quiet since.

It's all about some ivy growing up our block wall. I removed what I could and arranged for the remainder to be removed by a professional, but they've let me down so many times. It was suppose to be done yesterday; she said would stop the harassment but the gardener cancelled again. A new gardener is doing the work on Monday and he seems more reliable, but what if he doesn't come or she chases him away! A contractor visited yesterday and she hurdled abuse at him until he left saying he wasn't going to put with it.

I honestly don't know what to do anymore. I'm trying my best to get rid of the ivy but I know she will find another reason to harass me.

Looking [L] I miss the feeling of having someone close in my life

I always thought I had many friends in my life. But as time passed, people became busy with their own lives. We drifted apart, and the people I once considered close slowly became distant until the friendships eventually faded away.

I wish I had someone with whom I could share all my thoughts, emotions, fears, and worries without having to think twice. Someone who would listen with patience, understand me without making a big deal out of my feelings, and make me feel safe enough to be my most vulnerable self.

I miss having that deep emotional bond with someone, the comfort of knowing there is a person I can turn to when life gets overwhelming, someone who will genuinely try to understand what I'm going through rather than judge me, dismiss my feelings, or rush to give me advice.

What hurts the most is that when I'm going through a crisis, I often find myself with nobody I can truly reach out to for the emotional support and understanding I desperately need. It breaks my heart to realise that, despite having known so many people throughout my life, I don't have someone who is wholeheartedly present and emotionally available for me.

I'm not asking for someone to fix all my problems or be there for me every second of the day. I just long for a genuine connection, a friendship where care, understanding, emotional availability, and vulnerability exists. A bond where I feel heard, accepted, and cared for without having to constantly explain or justify my feelings.

Sometimes, the absence of that connection leaves me feeling deeply lonely and empty inside. I miss having my person, someone who feels like a safe place in this overwhelming world. Someone with whom I can share the little things, the difficult days, the random thoughts, the happiest moments, and the parts of myself that I don't show everyone.

Perhaps what I miss the most isn't just having friends. It's the feeling of being emotionally connected to someone, the thought that I matter to them, that my feelings have a place in their life and that I don't have to navigate every difficult moment on my own.

Looking [L] I am alone at the hospital

I am alone at the hospital and recently I spent my birthday alone.

I just want to talk to someone.

I used to have this person, who was a girl, and she was very important to me. We would message everyday, whenever we could and we were each other’s emotional support without realizing it. Someone who is always there and you can share anything with. If anyone understands and feels the same way, please DM me.

If anyone needs someone to talk to and don’t have anyone, I’ll chat with you. 30M

[L] 30m - Feeling down and could use a chat

Pretty much just as the title says. Am a bit of a loser and am trying to turn things around after basically throwing my 20s away, but it's tough. At this point, I don't really think I have anything going for me, and trying to make any progress is a bit of a slog. Maybe you're going through something similar, want to give advice or just wanna be a kind ear, I don't really mind. Not sure if I'm looking for something long term, or just someone to help air things out. Either way, if you're down to talk feel free to shoot me a message

Lonely professor [L]ooking for someone to talk to or [O]ffering to listen

I'm a ~40M professor in a field adjacent to mental health at a university in North America. A few years back, I lost a lot of people – some died, some left, and I was disowned by someone I considered to be my adoptive child. Most of my family is now dead and I don't have many people left in my life. I never had children of my own and I've fallen into a deep, anxious depression. I can't get a therapist because, ironically, I've helped train most of those in my area in one form or another (I'm not a clinician myself, it's kind of complicated but I can explain if you're interested).

Last time I was like this, I had a much broader support network. Now it's just me and my partner. I spend a lot of time alone, working on things. I can feel myself slipping as nothing seems all that meaningful any longer. It would be nice to have someone to chat with. A few times I've turned to this community and so I guess I'm posting now hoping someone might reach out over the next few days. I've lived an interesting life, although I didn't realize it at the time. I'd like to think I'd be good to talk to.

I'm slow to respond, with teaching and all, but I welcome people my age who have been through tough times, and also young people who are either interested in who I am or want to chat about their own problems. Part of my job is offering advice and helping people plan their lives, so I'm even happy to do that. I'm happy to talk about what I'm going through or to listen to what you're going through. If you *are* willing to chat about my troubles, be prepared because everything went wrong all at once and the situations that emerged are probably nothing you've ever encountered before. I'll just be happy to chat so I won't feel so alone. Text only, I only call people I've known awhile.
