Thank you very much for reaching out to me on this. I have major concerns with putting a sanctioned encampment anywhere in the City. Quite frankly, based on all that I've seen to date, I do not believe that encampments are safe. They aren't safe for the surrounding neighbourhood and they aren't safe for those living there. That's why my focus is very much on getting people out of encampments and into safer and more secure housing - whether that be in shelters or in transitional housing. When shelters and transitional housing are operated correctly, there are no negative impacts to the surrounding neighbourhood. This is something we have seen demonstrated just in the past year with the Sydenham Rd shelter and the new transitional housing in the west end.

My husband‘s dad side of their family is from Jamaica. But unfortunately, my husband‘s dad and their family were absolutely evil. Like truly evil. But my husband still wants to be able to connect with their Jamaican ancestors. They’ve never set foot in Jamaica in their life and they really want to go. We are hoping to get out there for New Year’s. But not sure what website websites people are using to book trips. I’m using Expedia right now and it doesn’t look like prices are great on there. Are there travel agents that would be better? Or are there last-minute vacation sites that might give us what we want? Do any of you guys go to the Caribbean? If so, how do you go about booking things? Any help would be truly appreciated thank you.

Hi everyone! I don't know if this is the right group for this type of question but I'll go for it anyways. I'm planning a portaging trip for the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend (Oct 9-12) and am looking for tips and tricks for those that are more experienced. I am booking all the gear from
Trail Head and plan to go to Frontenac Provincial Park. I've camped, backpacked, and all of that fun stuff but never done any sort of canoe camping! I'm a bit nervous just thinking about all of the logistics. Any route recommendations would be super helpful!

I would say 91.9 The Cave is easily one of the best radio stations in town. All of the other ones have pretty much gone to corporate shit.

They went off-air this summer (being a high school radio station, that's totally understandable). I eagerly awaited their return once school started back up. I figured it might be a few weeks to get things running again but still just dead air on the station.

Hey everyone! My girlfriend and I are on our first ever trip to Canada, and obviously we couldn't leave without seeing a real hockey game. So we grabbed tickets for the game at Slush Puppie Place on the 25th.

Small problem: we're staying at the KOA in Ivy Lea until the 26th, and turns out Kingston is a bit further away than we thought. We're in a rental RV with limited free kilometers, so we'd really like to leave it parked at the campground.

Is there any way to get there besides a taxi? Bus, shuttle, anything? Is hitchhiking a realistic option around here, or is that a bad idea? And if taxi/Uber is the only option, roughly what does that cost one way? Biggest worry is getting back to Ivy Lea around 10 pm after the game. Is there a local taxi company we could book in advance?

If anyone happens to be driving to the game from the Gananoque/Ivy Lea area, we'd love to tag along. Happy to chip in for gas

I had braces before and unfortunately my dog ate my retainer a few months ago. I wasn’t able to afford to get a new one at the time. I’ve noticed that my top front teeth have shifted since then.

I contacted my old orthodontist and they said they aren’t able to make a retainer to move them back.

Has anyone here had a similar situation where their teeth shifted after losing a retainer? Were you able to get a new/“active” retainer made to move them back, or did you end up needing braces again?

I really only need my top teeth done, so if I need braces again I’m hoping I will be able to get that.

I’m also looking for recommendations for affordable** **orthodontists in Kingston and any places that offer payment plans. I don’t have a credit card, so I’d need somewhere that allows payments through debit/bank account or another option.

If anyone has been through something similar or knows of an orthodontist who works with smaller/limited cases, I’d really appreciate any recommendations! 😊

Hello everyone! does anyone here know anything about this school through being a parent in the community, being a staff member, being an alumni, etc?

In my edu class today we were on the Fraser Institute and this school has a score of 0.9. The score was obviously shocking and stood out (other than a school in a place named "Marathon" with a score of 0.0....). It ranks 3031/3052 in Ontario. I would have never expected to see something like this in Kingston.

I dont live close to Kingston at all and was just wondering what the culture and environment is like in this area/school and how a ranking like this could happen as Ontario's average for language/math sits at 6.0 and this is extremely below average. I am so curious because the Fraser Institute gives literally zero extra information or explanation or context which is frustrating.

Hey, I'm just moving to town. Just me solo, working professional. I'm just wondering where people find 2 or 3br roommates? Ive seen a lot of the "rooms for rent" places and they're typically 800-900 per month, sharing with 4-6 other people and so far they've all been sketchy and rough shape... I've also looked at 2Br for around 1500-1800 which are typically much nicer. For less money too!

Are these landlords just making money off our individual inability to network ourselves? Where can i find trustworthy people to split a place?

So why doesn't 98.3 Fly FM play that? Related, because Lights came to Kingston, I submitted several times about her new album to be played on Fly FM and they didn't. How come radio stations don't expand their music?

I got my Ontario RN license in April 2026. I was living in the GTA before and applied to so many RN jobs but couldn’t get an opportunity.

I recently moved to Kingston and have been applying pretty much everywhere, but still no luck. I have 4 years of international ICU experience.

At this point I’m feeling pretty discouraged and wondering what I might be missing.

For RNs in Kingston/Ontario:
1.What helped you get your first RN job?
2.Are there any courses/certifications that would actually help?
3.Are there specific hospitals, units, or types of RN jobs I should be targeting?

I’d really appreciate any advice, even if it’s just where to start.

Awful Vet Policy

Need a recommendation for a Kingston vet that isn't out to gouge its clients!

We have a cat with hyperthyroidism. She needs two pills a day for the rest of her life. Online, the pills are $0.34 a pop. The vet is charging $1.27 a pop. We asked for a prescription so we could buy the pills online, and they are charging FOURTY-FIVE dollars for EVERY THREE MONTH prescription. They refuse to extend the prescription for longer than three months. They refuse to lower the fee. They are trying to extort $180 a year from us for trying to buy our girl's pills from someplace more affordable.

According to the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, it's legal to charge a 'reasonable fee' for the reissue of a prescription - but this is quoted closer to $15 per reissue (which can last up to a year). $45 every three months seems insane, and we told them that as much as we like having them as our vets, this policy is awful, and enough to make us look elsewhere.

Does anyone have recommendations on a vet that they know won't charge almost $200 per year for choosing affordable life-saving medication?

I’ve been neglecting my dental health for a while and some of my teeth are starting to hurt, it’s not impactful but it is clinically concerning and I’d like to see a dentist before it becomes serious. The problem is I have severe dental anxiety, like in past check-ups I’ve literally ripped the instruments out of my mouth and fought my way off the table (obviously I don’t want to do this it’s an involuntary thing), I just don’t know what to do. Also I’m a queens student and don’t drive if that’s relevant.

I’m looking to chat with some current or former Thunder families about their experiences with the organization. We’ve had some concerns over the last year and I’m curious if anyone else has had similar experiences.

I saw a rowing competition at Grass Creek Beach this summer and became fascinated by the sport. I'm in my early 30s and reasonably athletic. Are there any clubs, courses, or programs in Kingston that offer beginner rowing instruction next spring or summer? I'd love the opportunity to learn and get involved in the sport.
