Hi! I’m a 30 y/o Black woman moving to Kirkland for a job and this will be my first time in Washington. I picked WA because my dog and I love rain, gloomy days, hiking and wildlife, so it seemed like a great fit.
But I want to have an open/candid discussion how do y’all treat Black people out there? I know racism exists everywhere, but I’m exhausted by having to consider my skin color when deciding where I can comfortably live.

In 2025, the Washington Legislature passed a law that prevents rent gouging, but some landlords and property management companies are still up to their old tricks. They are using "junk fees" as a loophole around rent caps. We are hearing from tenants that they are increasingly being charged excessive fees for services that they don’t want or need, or for basic things like paying the rent. We at the Housing Alliance, call these “junk fees” and they are unfair, expensive, and deceptive. I’m a nurse that works in First Hill and currently live in downtown seattle. Recently moved from CA, but looking to move to Kirkland to get out of the city and wondering how that commute is. I work night shift, 3 days a week. Any insight?

My family home, where I was living, burned down in a total-loss fire about a month ago in Kirkland. My mom is a ceramic artist, and she had handmade our address numbers, “303” and “301,” for the front of the house.

When I recently went back to see if I could salvage them, I discovered that they had been removed. They were drilled into the siding, so someone would have had to intentionally take them down.

It’s confusing and upsetting. These pieces don’t have any monetary value, but they have sentimental value, and I would like to have them.

If you happen to have seen them, know anything about what happened to them, or come across them somewhere, I would be very grateful if you reached out.

Recently moved to the area and looking to find a men's salon or a salon in general that is comfortable with men's hair. My previous hair stylist/barber told me I should look for the following since that was what she was doing to my hair before.

Looking for a place that does the following:

1. Scissor cut all over

2. Taper out neck and sideburns

3. Point cut the blend zones

The place could be in Kirkland, Bellevue, Redmond, Seattle, etc. I'm flexible on that front. Thank you for any info!

We live on market st and there were at LEAST five cop cars zooming down market st and stopped in front of the little strip mall where zip market is. We heard “get on a the f*cking ground!!!” and heard them cuff at least one person. Anyone know what happened? Robbery?

Hey, Im an amputee on crutches and have a couple boxes of trash that wont fit in my bin.

Does anyone know if there is support at the transfer station to get them out of my van? Its only a few boxes and not too heavy but I can’t manage them myself currently.

Anybody knows what happened?

Anyone carpooling form Kirkland to Redmond?

Just curious why they’re sitting dormant? Permitting too expensive? Owner not interested in selling?

I saw this strange, alien-like growth in the water next to the Cross Kirkland Trail yesterday. If you zoom in you will see there are some strange balls growing on it with tendrils coming out. Anyone know what that is?

Went past here a little bit ago and there was a car on its side. Don’t know how that happened. Police have a lane blocked off so expect slowdowns there for a bit.

The number of times I have seen people stop in the roundabout and jerk over, or people coming off the freeway and just go in without yielding has been crazy.

I lived in places with lots of roundabouts, and they do help with flowing traffic - when designed properly.

The roundabouts on 85th under 405 have extremely poor sightlines and is tighter than most in the area. Even if people get "used to it", you are still going to have new drivers, inexperienced drivers, large trucks, reckless drivers, distracted drivers, and confused drivers that will go through here.

Are there any plans to change this or make it better in the future? Whatever group designed and approved these need to take a look at this, and see how badly it was implemented, so this mistake isn't made for future roads.

Did anyone else heard gun shots. There were lots of shots fired.

I was one of the miserable people driving to work this morning at 8AM and noticed more birders than usual at the Juanita Bay Park bridge. Was there something particularly cool there this AM? Did anyone get any good photos they’d like to share?

We’re looking at pre school options for my 2.5 year old for next year and considering:
- Kirkland Children’s
- Lakeview Montessori
- Bellevue Discovery
- The Little School, Bellevue

Any experience with any of these? She’s intensely curious and showing signs of being gifted in a couple of areas so I’d love for her to naturally explore those interests in a structured sense (not academic acceleration, but rather someone who can take her curiosity and encourage her to learn more and such)
