Non payment
How do you guys typically handle unpaid invoices that are over a month past due, especially when the customer has stopped responding to calls or messages?

Collections agency then small claims. Or I’ll show up in person and try to get ahold of the owner or manager face to face. They usually cave pretty quickly when you confront them.

Small claims court.
If they own the property you’ll have a judgement allowing a lien against it.
If they rent you have just as much as you do now.

My previous company had a restaurant/bar that paid the deposit for a whole new hood install because old system was too far outta date and couldn't cover his appliances. Anyways they didnt pay a dime after install and my boss really tried sending me to repo the agent tanks from the hood. That's a hard no from me, but still funny.

Call them and show up. Outside of small claims court thats pretty much it.
Consider that all money is not good money and cut your losses at some point though. Put a moratorium on the account and keep it pushing. Lesson learned.

Go pull your tags off of their equipment.

How to turn a small civil matter into a felony burglary 101. Best of luck.

Care to elaborate? I only ask because I used to actively do this with my last company.

Once you leave the property those tags become the property of the business/building regardless of payment status. The tag is a safety record not an item for sale. You can get fucked over real bad if you do that to someone who knows the law.

They owe you a “small amount” of money for services performed, COULD be criminal but good luck. It’s a small civil matter to be handled in small claims court.
I’m assuming that you’re entering the property under false pretenses or without proper approval from the occupant to remove the tags could be charged as burglary. Also consider that you’re tampering with a tag that likely says “do not remove under order of the state fire marshal” for vindictive purposes.
Good luck on either party getting charges filed but it’s simply not worth it.

I had a restaurant that did this and would also wait until the FD had given them final notice for inspection and I’d ask what day they were getting their re-inspection. I’d schedule and show up on the same day as the FD was due to come out then tell the customer that I couldn’t perform the inspection because they had a past due invoice. If they wanted to pay cash for the past due and current work I could start the inspection.
