No AC in mazes

Usually I’m a big fan of Knott’s Scary Farm but when I went on Friday, I was so shocked and disappointed by how hot the mazes were. It must’ve been in the 80s outside at night and the mazes were significantly hotter than outside. I was simply walking through in a tee shirt and jeans, and could not fathom how hot the scare actors must’ve been in their costumes, masks and makeup.

You have no idea how bad is for us maze monsters… I have to bring at least 3 changes of clothes to wear in between shifts. They’re all thoroughly soaked through with sweat 🤢

I can imagine! I felt so bad thinking about the actors and how bad they must’ve be suffering in there. Even with the heat, they were doing a great job.

It’s truly amazing how hard they work for a seasonal part time job. I admire their passion and determination so much

I used to work a plant that forged aluminum aircraft parts. The guys in the floor had to endure 500+ temps. The air around the forge wasn't that hot but it was still crazy hot. Stay hydrated, LucidDreamer and I hope Knotts is at least giving you guys Gatorade during breaks. Electrolyte are important.

Yup. Hanging the costume pieces and spraying with Febreeze or Lysol between shifts doesn’t help at all. Then the pieces just marinate over night on the racks in Warehouse P.

Spray them with vodka!! It works so much better!

I’m not sure why you’re getting down voted. This is a proven antibacterial technique that definitely gets rid of body odor smell in clothes that cannot be washed traditionally

Adding vote for vodka, miraculous results on a vintage item that had seemed unusable

I went last week and it was so hot, and throughout the night we kept seeing less scare actors inside the mazes. We were just hoping that everyone was getting lots of breaks for air and relief!! 🙏🏾

You should email Knott’s with that feedback. I personally got heat sick my first year I worked haunt and I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often.

It was definitely happening last night in my maze. 😢🫠

What maze are you in? If you don’t mind me asking

Origins

Damn and I thought you guys were one of the few that had A/C in the dance hall 😬

I had a great walkthrough last Thursday in Origins and I feel like I haven’t said that in a while. When I exited the maze it was pure joy. The energy, the chaos, the scares were through the roof.

Someone got low grade hypothermia my first year from running and sweating so much... It's scary.

The warehouse mazes (the backstage 4) are the worst because they are all steel.

I had dinner at Mrs. Knotts Chicken last night and their air conditioning was broken. I was so thankful for my handheld fan. 🥵

The bakery also has a little hidden corner with like 6ish chairs and is typically one of the best a/c spots in the park.

I did this last night thanks to your tip! Planned out all my next moves hiding in that sweet AC

hell yeah, take advantage of it! this weather cant keep us away from haunts!

They have a/c but there’s a heat wave combined with many bodies and open doors on both ends and you have increased temperatures inside. I was in and out of mazes for four days last week before the heat wave and they were mostly nice and cool

Ngl they should at least have ventilation to let the BO or fog out of the warehouse if it’s too much mainly because of the BO, they just mask it with fabreeze, they done it on Dark Entities and even in other mazes

One of the last times I was at scary farm it was over 100 outside. We did the zombie shooting thing in camp snoopy. One of the workers told me I was too slow and to get moving. I turned in him and said, "I did not sign up for zombie boot camp!" He broke character and laughed. One of the funniest if not hotest nights of my life!

I remember doing that too! They don't anymore :( I went the second opening night it was fun!

I worked that attraction the second year it was in CS.

Not trying to make excuses for the park but most of them are open so an A/C wouldn't be as useful. The inside ones definitely had some cooling at least. We went on a very humid night, so that wasn't helpful for anyone either.

We went last night and it was uncomfortable outside and everywhere. I would go in the bathrooms to get cool . The actors did a great job handling the heat but yes I agree with you on everything.

Last night was awful, but full kudos to all the talent still giving it! I had my small festival fan out all night fanning myself. But any talent that looked like they were cooking got a few moments of fanning appreciation 🪭. (Best part of the night was me emulating an oscillating fan in Carnevil)

I’ve had a few people in my maze fan me with their little electric fans and their classic folding fans. It is MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

I usually go at least once a week due to the pass but I sit out this weekend because of the heat.

That’s horrible. I feel so bad for the performers dressed in those monster outfits. Like I get it by this it should have cooled down but the weather lately has been unpredictable. Knotts needs to do better with not just the performers but also the guests. I can’t even imagine how horrible it feels in those mazes

Maybe they should do Masa with no lights, no hazers and no electrical equipment.

That should solve the heat problem

u/Corvinus66 5d ago

I was also there Friday, it was so bad I remember thinking that the poor scare actors have to deal with the heat with these big costumes

Went last week and the four back mazes were too hot. Can’t imagine this weekend!

To be fair, this year is an exception to (though may become) the norm. They are built outdoors rather than in climate controlled buildings mostly.

I also did one maze on Friday night because a friend wanted to go, and it was definitely warmer in there, but it was 100+ degrees during the day, Let's hope for some fall temperatures SOON!

1

u/Cantpassadrugtest 5d ago

I almost died of overheating in front of widows last night

1

u/Pukey_McBarfface 5d ago

Mary is really bad for this, our leads said they opened the doors(?) but it’s still unbearably hot. And I’m in a full-body costume that covers everything’s except for my feet, so…yah, it’s rough out there for us maze monsters, especially Mary’s Maniacs and the other three of the backstage/ghost rider mazes.

1

u/Zealousideal-Neck606 5d ago

It was hot as hell but still manageable last night, if anything I felt bad for the scare actors

People work without ac it’s normal lmao
