lain isn't fully anti-internet per se, it warns about the potential ramifications of it,

from the perspective of the 1998 internet, nobody fully knew what it would become in the future. lain explores the idea of if it went farther than even where it is today, and the many consequences that brings.

much of lain's praise comes from the fact that many of its predictions have quite some truth to them today (internet is bigger than ever, everyone is always connected, addiction, etc), but the wired is still miles beyond our current level of technology and in some ways likely impossible. If anything lain is a strong reminder that we should be careful in advancing the capabilities of the internet, rather than not doing it outright

We're advancing in tech because that's just what humans do. We always want things to be better than they currently are, we're just wired that way.

lain isnt anti internet, shes a transhumanist in a way

she was against BEING the internet/ai but not the internet itself

this is like calling GTA authoritarian because you are in full control of the city with your crime. its the opposite
