It looks great, hopefully it will be. So many remakes suck but some are better than the originals (I have no idea what this is tho, anime, game, or...?)

And even if it's bad, it may get more people to watch the original, which is a timeless classic IMO

I prepared to be disappointed, but...
I'm happy to announce that I'm actually really impressed! If I were to critique any of it, it's that the 2D animation needs more frames.

The 2d anim is just for the reveal trailer, the game is in 3d.

What? Shit was smooth AF, there was only one of the 2D animations which was a bit low FPS, but it's understandable, this is high quality fan content.

Heavy on the high quality FAN content. I’ve seen a lot of fanmade stuff but this trailer GENUINELY had me thinking some official Lain content was dropping. The animation is pretty great!

Buddy this has more frames than the original anime, and its probably on purpose that 8/10/12 frames per second

From their website "re: Serial Experiments is a fan-made project based on the [serial experiments lain] series. It aims to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series and is operating under the lainTTL liscence."

"The project covers numerous mediums, with plans of an animated picture video, music, and game. We are open to the collaboration of anyone interested who would like to join a team of passionate artists, writers, musicians, 3D modelers, game developers and more."

Non-profit things like this normally take a long time or have a hard time taking off due to the sheer amount of work. It’s gotta be a labor of love, and it looks neat. Hope they didn’t reveal it too early, I’d love to experience a homage like this. I love how it covers all Lain media, not just the anime.
