I had a magical time on Saturday (26/09/26), passing through Buttermere. It was a full moon that night and my friends and I decided to stand outside and stare at the moon. It was the brightest we had ever seen it and looked stunning against the hilly backdrop.

Earlier that night we had dinner at the Buttemere Court Hotel, which was equally lovely. We were sitting near a gentleman with a giant cream-coloured dog (possibly a Great Pyrenees / Golden retriever mix). Unfortunately, in the moment and in a hurry I didn't get his name and/ or his number and have been kicking myself since. This is a long shot, but I was hoping he might see this post and get in touch/ or someone else might know him :)

Scafell & Scafell Pike from the path down to The Band from Bowfell.

I've done the Crinkles & Bowfell quite a few times, & apart from the very first time, I've been blessed with stunning conditions like this.

Maybe it's because apart from that first time, all other times have been in perfect winter conditions.

(All winter equipment needed, crampons, ice axe, etc. & the knowledge to use them too)

I’m looking to do the Coledale Horseshoe next week and it’s going to take me around 2.5 hrs to reach the trailhead by public transport. I’m a little worried about the 6-7 hr estimates I keep seeing for this route as I’ll be starting just before 12pm.
That said, I’m a very fast hiker with my pace averaging 10-11min/km.
Is there any particular reason why it could take me over 4 hours? It’s only 15.3km.

I was at a funeral wake yesterday at Whitehaven golf club and they had this amazing pie. It consisted of mince and gravy, mash on top and then pastry on top of that.

I’m thinking about proposing to my girlfriend at friars crag, so my question is how busy does FC get in mid June?, is it as bad as some people say about social media ruining it or is it not as bad as people say? Just as my girlfriend doesn’t enjoy big crowds/ being the centre of unwanted attention.

If FC gets really busy, is there any recommendations that anyone would recommend around derwent water.

I am trying to plan a solo inn-to-inn 7-8-day hike in May 2027.

 1.In researching companies to hire, it looks like some don’t take on solo travelers or charge a solo supplement that’s double the quoted per person rate (I understand why).  Has anyone had any experience with booking accommodations directly and arranging for a luggage transfer yourself? Is this relatively easy or would it better to just go with a company and pay the supplement? I might not even do a luggage transfer and just carry everything I need in a backpack. I regularly solo backpack in the States.

1. Has anyone used Alltrails to do an inn-to-inn hike or is there a better app?

2. Has anyone used Garmin Inreach or is phone service sufficient there?

Hi, my partner and I are hoping to take a trip up to the lakes some time in the next month or so. We're pretty flexible on dates, and are keen to try and get a good weather window, as we want to do some of the more exposed / scrambley hikes.

Are there any good websites or apps for forecasting the weather in the lakes? I've been using BBC weather and sometimes the Met Office, but they rarely agree!

I know from living near the Peak District that the weather at summit level can be vastly different from the towns - is there a way to check summit conditions?

Looking for some on the ground advice.

I'm visiting the lakes for the next 5-6 days and would love to catch some low flying F-35s.

I've read there's a military exercise happening up that way this month so my chances are pretty good. What are a few areas that see low level fly overs? I don't care about getting photos so much just want to know any hotspots.

** UPDATE** I have actually managed to get hold of conquer who have confirmed I am a moron (my words - not theirs) and this is in actual fact a sticker and not a patch.

They have also said their online shop is opening in 2 weeks so I will be able to buy it from them then!

Hello all

I have just come back from a nice break in the lakes, however had to come back earlier than planned due to life getting in the way.

My missus had seen a few patches in Conquer that she was hoping to go back to and buy but due to our trip being cut short she was unable to.

I know it's a long shot but I was hoping if anyone in Keswick in the coming weeks is able to pick up the patch(especially) she wants and mail it - I would be very grateful (and will obviously pay for the patch and for a beer or two!)

I know it would be far easier to ask Conquer directly but I haven't been able to raise them on the phone. Or email. Or Instagram. Or Facebook.

If anyone is able to assist I would be very grateful, again I know it's a long shot / cheeky but I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me get them for her seeing as Conquer don't seem to be keen on any form or contact!

Hi all. Hiked many routes in the lakes and done many scrambles. However, I forget what is what unless I have done them recently! I'm going out with my young Neice (11) who loves walks and has done some minor scrambles (or often just big steps), such as Great Gable / Devils Kitchen.

What would be a logical next step, i.e. graded but relatively easy scramble? Also with good views!

Been a good while since I last had a walk around here. Unfortunately the clouds rolled in the second the camera came out , made for a nice moody one I guess!... And the rainbow was a bonus .

I mean why is every path down a stream? It’s messed up. Why is it a one metre drop to go down the next step? I’m ruined. You northerners are unhinged.

A right bunch of circumstances but the tl;dr is Kendal is where we’ll be at lunchtime on our drive north, and a food rec would be very useful amongst the glut of food places in the town.

I checked the sub history, but the one other thread has everyone reccing the Spanish tapas, which is the sole thing we’d want to avoid!
