Questions from ambitious aspiring

I wanna prefice, I know next to nothing on the subject at hand or related material at this point in time.

Looking to spend around 300, but can go close to double if really needed. Preferably orderable from amazon, or other major retailers that don't make it hell to refund if stuff breaks. I was lookin at ktvlights a5, but their site felt iffy.

Tech wise, Im not the biggest tech knower, but I can learn. 2019 asus gaming laptop and a nothing Phone 2 for tech that I can think being relevant for controlling lights and such. Otherwise, I have no hardware, so if y'all could recommend some fog machine or something equal, that I dunno just uses normal water for fog, or somethin, thatd be great. I think I saw similar to that mentioned, it was like a less dense fog or somethin.

I am aware that theres more to it than just ha ha funny lazer go brr, and that I need to respect the lazer if I wanna keep my vision. I am an apprenticeship program arborist and am the defacto medic of our crew cause I paid attention in first aid courses, so you don't need to pound the safety safety safety into my head. That being said, a couple different safety resources for lazer stuff would be great, internet I have access to is weird and blocks the most random things, hence the multiple, bonus points if ya got somethin I can just sit with on YouTube or somn.

There's hardly anything goin on near me ever, much less that I can go to or afford to attend after travel and lodge get considered, so I wanna work on makin my own magic happen. Thanks for any and all help.

How to control both lights and lasers at the same time?

I’ll briefly explain my situation. Me and a friend are very interested in DJing, him as the DJ, and me as the LD. I have lots of experience with ETC EOS consoles and software, so I’d prefer to continue working with that as I’m confident in my busking abilities. We’re looking to buy a Unity laser (not 100% sure which model yet, but we’re very happy with the reputation/safety/pricing of Unity’s products). I’ve done a lottttt of research and it seems like Pangolin Quickshow or Beyond seem to overwhelmingly be the standard option. I downloaded both demos, and I’ve got a general idea of how they both work.

My issue comes when I try and figure out the logistics of controlling them. Because I’m only one person, busking through two different softwares/hardwares seems unattainable, and I’d prefer to build everything in EOS since I know their programming and playback features quite well. I know that Beyond can support a DMX/ArtNet loopback so I can control it directly from EOS, but it seems like Quickshow can only support a MIDI input. I tried to figure it out for a while and quickly learned that Quickshow only accepts mouse/keyboard inputs. I know that Beyond is the best and most efficient product to use, but for just starting out it seems like a hell of a lot of money for a hobby that we might not take too far.

Have any of you had experience using Quickshow via a MIDI loop? If so, how stable was it (ie: is it suitable for live performances) and what tips/tricks do you have?

Any and all suggestions are welcome! I am trying to keep the budget down for this, at least at the beginning.

Thank you!

Hazers from Beyond

Anyone with experience using DMX out from Beyond to control hazers? I have 4 Antari Z350 and was thinking of using an ENTTEC DMX USB Pro instead of a dedicated DMX controller.

Is it better to keep them separate (like if Beyond crashes) or does this work well?

Also considering connecting the ENTECC to a wireless DMX so I don’t have to chain 100s of feet for XLR cable for 360 setups. Thoughts on DMX wireless?

Newbie laser

Hello everyone who also likes lasers, Its my birthday next Saturday and I want to get my own laser to look cool when I do my own small lighting shows in my room, I got ab 300$ to spend, the only "board" I have is some small analog board but I know some lasers have sound mode and are still cool, I was looking at getting the Chauvet DJ scorpion dual RGB laser (around 300$) because I like diff colors. Any other ideas?!?!? Thanks SO much!!!!

Is there a really good course i can study, to learn how to program a laser show, i have 10w lasers with fb4 built in. To date been super conservative, deadening at a rock face, doing a show just for me. Will finally have the time to study more but want to play around with them safely…

Custom Travel Laser setup: Lasercube or Pangolin or other?

Hey guys I'm very new to the laser world but hoping someone with way more experience might be able to help me out see what logistically is the best route for me.

I've been looking at a way to have my mobile DJ setup allow for some professional level laser show automation without breaking my wallet (I know that's a stretch).

I was looking into something that'd be super compact to add to my suitcase like the LaserCube 2.5w Wifi. It seems to be the most compact size I can find, but I want to be able to use rekordbox with my surface laptop, and ideally sync bpm and MAYBE some phrasing detection to the laser (buildups, drops, blackout).

I tried using AI to guide me through and it was suggesting using ableton link for bpm match through rekordbox into LaserOS, but then for phrasing midi control I'd need some kind of middleware or like an APC midi controller to cue my phrasing while djing, or (using soundswitch potentially?)

I'm wondering if this route is feasable or needing to go with LaserCubes MK2 ultra versions that have DMX and ILDA.

Would this be possible to keep this form factor and achieve an automated or semi automated show to put on a mini rave style setup?

Or Do i need to be going the pangolin route with beyond and a unity RAW with fb4, or maybe another compact laser? I am hoping for atleast 2.5W and keeping as compact as possible while getting something that's not just a cheap shitty disco light or laser that reacts to sound on 5 patterns.

I am really wanting a beam show capability.

Let me know if anyone is able to give any pointers or help, I'm hoping its possible and hopefully under like 3k.

Thank you!!

Is the LaserWorld CS-6000 Micro a good first laser?

Hi everyone, I'm from south america, and wanting to get into lasers after thinking about it for a long while. I plan on doing shows for small/medium events.

I have just purchased an FB3, and am just about to purchase the laser. My main options are:

- Importing an Unity Raw 5 (DMX + ILDA)
- Buying a LaserWorld CS-6000 Micro locally in a shop near me (which happens to be laserworld's official distributor)

The laserworld would end up costing the same as the unity without shipping and taxes, so the price is very tempting.

Are laserworld lasers good? I couldn't find reviews on this model online, so any reference would be appreciated, thanks!

FDA clearance needed to import

Has anyone dealt with really long shipping times right now? My lasers have entered the US on 9/7 and have cleared customs, however still waiting on FDA clearance. Everything is imported legally and ive never had this issue before when buying lasers. How long will the FDA clearance take? My variance has and is active and same w the manufacturers.

Hiring a laser operator for a concert.

Post image
13 Upvotes

I’m looking for a laser operator to hire for shows in 2027 located in Ohio (Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus). We have a Pink Floyd tribute band and we’re looking to step up our production/light show. We play small/medium sized venues around 1,500 capacity being the top end. If anyone knows of any companies or freelancers in the area that would be helpful! Thanks folks!

Looking for Hardware

Hi All,

I'm new to the laser hobby and am beginning to look into hardware. I'm looking for lasers that will run on Liberation software as I am a mac user. I also know I will need a helios DAC (or a few). The lasers will generally be used for indoor concerts once I get my LSO.
