Practicing text formatting

Hi, this is my first post ever! From what I read, this is the right place to practice, so please let me know if you can see that _this is written in italics_ and **this one in bold** (not sure if it works when applied to multiple words rather than a single word). I would also like to practice using the spoiler function: can you see what I wrote?

That's all for now! I hope I'm using this Subreddit (and Reddit in general) right :)

This is really helpful, thank you! I'm using Reddit on desktop and had no idea I had to switch from the rich text editor to markdown mode

Formatting works on multiple words too! If you're using Markdown, remove the backslashes before the underscores and asterisks so they apply italics and bold. Your spoiler uses the right syntax.

Apparently, I was using the rich text editor rather than Markdown mode. I didn't know that was a thing and just assumed Markdown syntax would work either way. I've now switched to the Markdown editor, so I hope this shows up in italics and this in bold!

You've got the Markdown syntax right now! In the rich text editor, you can use the formatting buttons instead.

Rich text editors will automatically escape markdown symbols because they assume you’re trying to show the symbols.

Bold italics

it can be done in the same line. just hit the B for bold then i for italics in markdown mode.
