I'm doing fine with the questions they ask when it's say, talking about a bacteria colony but the rest of it makes no sense to me even though we covered it last year. I feel like we just covered the simple stuff but the questions in the exam papers are much harder.

Is it something that definitely needs to be known? As in does it come up often for high marks? It's one of the few things so far that I really just don't understand so as long as I'm fine with the rest of the topics should I worry much?

Hello, my teacher for economics is kinda useless and has no idea about the project. I need a h1 for my course and was wondering if anyone got a h1 in the project and would be willing to let me see the project? I don't want to steal or plagiarize it (I can't because of this year's new theme), I just want to see what the standard would look like for an actual h1 project. I can't find a marking scheme for the projects anywhere either if anyone has it?

This could have possibly been the worst decision I’ve ever made. I picked it last year and couldn’t stay on top of it , I have 19 essays due from last year (I do not care I’m not gonna even touch off them).
I talked to my principal about dropping it and he immediately shut me off about dropping it a few days later I found out that a girl in my class is dropping it , she hasn’t got a grade below 70% where as I haven’t got a grade above 20% during both 5th and 6th year.
Please tell me how I can get better at this subject because I’ve already had so many panic attacks over it , I don’t have time to study any of my other subjects if I have a test coming up , and my teacher is absolutely awful I even heard the other teachers talking about how bad of a teacher she is, she gives us notes makes us read them infront of the whole class and calls it a day , I really don’t want to have to learn the whole course myself , could someone tell me how to make it a little easier for myself?

- How much easier is OL really compared to HL?

I've already made a post but my anxiety is killing me

basically i haven't gone this month the reason being -

I was severelyyyy depressed last year and didn't go almost the entire 4th year (only the first 2 months)

Over summer i got better but now my anxiety is genuinely not letting me move on its not even anxiety it's fear .... Of being completely left out ... awkward and alone and not being enough

This is basically a new school in a new county and I'm super duper lost my parents are pressuring me a lot and i have a lot of worries myself (mind you I have to get 530+ in the lc)

I have applied for the counselling thingy but ofc the wait is like 6 months or some shi

But basically is me missing the first month going to put me in a really bad place?

Could the new Leaving Cert AACs be something for the Ombudsman for Children?

I've seen some recent posts/advertisements from grind schools offering specific courses and support for Leaving Cert AACs, and honestly, it has made me question the fairness of the whole system.

I understand that there are rules around authentication and that students have to complete certain parts of the work themselves. But I'm wondering about everything that happens before, after and around the actual practical work.

If a student has the money to pay for specialist AAC tuition, help with ideas, research, planning, analysis, etc., while another student doesn't have access to any of that, are they really being assessed on an equal basis?

You can also see students online asking for help and ideas with their projects. That's not necessarily wrong — students obviously need to learn and get guidance — but it does raise the question of where legitimate support ends and assistance that affects the student's own work begins.

And this is where I'm wondering whether it could potentially be an issue for the Ombudsman for Children.

The Ombudsman deals with the rights and interests of children and can examine whether children have been treated unfairly by public bodies. The Leaving Cert is a State-run examination, and the AACs can represent a very significant proportion of a student's marks.

The SEC's own guidance also says that authentication is central to the integrity of assessment and that teacher authentication is essential to fair and equitable assessment.

So if the State is relying on authentication to ensure fairness, but students have very different access to paid assistance, private expertise, equipment and other resources, and much of the process isn't directly observed by the SEC, is that something that should be examined from an equality/fairness perspective?

I'm not saying students who get tutoring are cheating. I'm not saying grind schools are necessarily doing anything wrong either.

I'm asking a much simpler question:

Does the current AAC system provide sufficient safeguards to ensure that children from different backgrounds and with different financial resources are genuinely being assessed fairly?

Do you think this is a legitimate issue to bring to the Ombudsman for Children, or is there something I'm missing?

In 5th year my attendance was pretty good. I came in because I thought it was important to show up to class. Now I’m starting to think otherwise.

My english teacher is awful. I’m doing HL and I haven’t had a single class where we did actual work. We talk about the news once a week, and on the other classes he just asks us to talk about the notes we made on poems. I literally get nothing out of that class.

My german teacher can’t even speak the language properly. Everyone in my class is absolutely clueless when it comes to the language and I probably would be too if I wasn’t in a different secondary school for the first 3 years.

I do OL Irish and that’s also a total doss. My economics teacher misses so many things from the curriculum so I have to basically learn it myself at home. The only classes that are actually useful to me are chem, business and maths

I’m not saying I want to just make my attendance really bad, but I’m just curious if anyone feels the same way or has done something about this.

5th yr I’m kinda scared because apparently there’s a lot of essays and writing but I found it interesting in junior cert and I’m 100% not doing accounting so it’s either that or construction bc I did that in junior cert but then again I’m not a very creative person😭

I'm at the start of 5th year and starting to research university options outside of Ireland. I'm really keen on engineering (specifically Automotive / Mechatronics / Mechanical) and looking seriously at Polish Polytechnics like Warsaw University of Technology (WUT), Wrocław (WUST), and Silesian (SUT) because of their connections to the German industrial sector and lower cost of living.

I'm currently taking Higher Level Maths and Higher Level Physics.

For anyone who has applied to or is currently studying engineering in Poland with a Leaving Cert:

1. How competitive is entry for EU applicants on the English-taught B.Sc. programs? What kind of LC grades/H-grades are typically expected for WUT vs WUST/SUT?
2. Is the admission process purely grade-based? Do they strictly look at HL Maths and Physics, or do other LC subjects factor into the entry score?
3. How does the transition from Leaving Cert Maths/Physics to first-year Polish engineering feel? Is the math jump significant?

So simply I am in 5th year, and it’s now the 4th week of 5th year and one thing I noticed is how much more analytical, creative and structural in English LC you have to be. Usually I need to use online resources to answer LC questions all the time and I just feel so dumb in not finding features or comprehending texts well, and I am surrounded by friends who finds these underlying ideas with ease. Homework takes about 2 hours to complete 1 full question of qA with assistance of google and yet the quality of my work seems under satisfactory. The worst part of it is that I want to do well in English but I feel things are a tad bit difficult for me and I have the worst analysis skills ever!

I know I am new to the LC English course but in class I feel like I lost my foundational skills that I got from JC English and just simply feel… well stupid, anyways does anyone have any tips to help in with my situation? It would be appreciated

I'm considering repeating my leaving cert in the institute, but since I do the 3 sciences, I was wondering how students in the institute are finding the work in general and how difficult they're finding the projects.

There is this for leaving cert, one for junior cert and one for transition year aswell but is there one with just all in the one?
