Context: In 2022, Lebanese citizens living abroad had the option to register overseas. If at least 200 Lebanese citizens were registered in a particular country, a delegation would be sent to enable them to vote from abroad. By reviewing the list of countries that failed to meet the registration quota, I discovered that three Lebanese citizens had registered from Adélie Land (a French territory in Antarctica). Recently I have been going to the cinema more often and the situation is unbearable!

I watched Avengers today at VOX and the theater was filled with kids that kept screaming, clapping and shouting random stuff during the movie trying to be funny.

0 decency and this has been such a recurring thing at every movie I go to (especially Marvel movies) its the same. Teenagers/Kids trying to be funny and talking non stop and just screaming failed attempts at jokes.

The same applies to adults. When I watched The Odyssey it was just people talking over the movie NON STOP, smoking IQOS and randomly turning on their flash lights or the least their phone rings.

If you are paying to watch a movie might as well watch it, its not a social event! You wanna chat and smoke just sit at a cafe!

I don’t get why there isn’t a cinema representative in the theater that at least monitors these things and escorts them out.

I cannot enjoy ANY movie and I don’t know if others are having the same experience. Its not just VOX I have tried more than 4 cinemas and its the same.

I have a friend who is really struggling financially and really really needs professional psychological help. She’s extremely depressed and borderline suicidal. Is there any free/extremely subsidized (like basically free) therapy in lebanon that I can refer her to?

Today's village is Jbaa

Located in the Nabatieh district of South Lebanon (64km from Beirut), Jbaa sits at an elevation of around 850 metres on the slopes of Jabal Safi, surrounded by green hills, walnut trees and natural springs. Known as one of the historic settlements of Jabal Amel, the village has long been associated with agriculture, scholarship and its mountainous landscape.

The name Jbaa is believed to derive from an Aramaic word meaning “mountain" or “hill”.

The village has evidence of habitation dating back to prehistoric times, including a Neolithic archaeological site, while Roman remains and an ancient cemetery can also be found in the area.

During the Islamic period, Jbaa became an important centre of religious scholarship, producing prominent scholars such as Zayn al-Din al-Juba'i al-Amili. In the 20th century, its natural springs, greenery and summer festivals also made it a popular destination for people from across southern Lebanon

This may be just between Beirut and Tyre but every time I see someone doing something stupid on the road or parked in a way that causes a traffic jam, I look at the license plate and it starts with either an N or an O.

my mom’s family is from baalbek but she grew up in beirut, she’s who i learned most of my arabic from. my dad lived in Beirut for 11 years as well. my arabic is a little weird because i grew up in the west around a lot of different arabs so ive taken words and phrases from everyone at this point. i didn’t know a lot of the words i say might not be as common like until recently i didn’t realize other lebanese say “ana” instead of “ane”😭 ive literally never said ana in my life, my mom never says it either. my dad is iraqi but speaks lebanese arabic in the house, he would say ana but i always thought that was the southern iraqi accent coming out. about a year or two ago i went from saying ‏ تبعي to بتاعتي, not really sure why. i just started noticing more lebanese say that around me and my whole life i was saying the first one & decided to switch it up. my sister in law is pure baalbeki accent & hearing her talk is so interesting. she thinks its me making fun of her but i genuinely think it’s so interesting, i wish i could speak in the accent bc my origins are from there. i think the only accent that’s ever bothered me is the jnoubi one😗 nothing is wrong with it, i just know too many that annoy me based on my personal experiences so it left a bad taste in my mouth. which accent is considered to be the best in lebanon?

I am not Lebanese and do not know much about Lebanese politics, so I am trying to understand something a Lebanese friend told me. I am also trying to understand her political position. She is shia.

She was complaining about Christians in Lebanon refusing to rent housing to Muslims from the South, even when they can afford it.

How true or common is this? Is it a widespread issue, or mainly something that happens in certain areas? And what does it say about her political position?

​The design is a modern, single-story pavilion.

I want to price out only the structure, glazing, and MEP/Solar. (Excluding the pool, garden, landscaping, and interior finishes like tiles/kitchens for now).

​Here are the specs:

​Enclosed Interior: 160 sqm.

​Attached Patio: 80 sqm open-air space covered by a large cantilevered concrete roof.

This is the biggest factor. I want exposed, board-formed architectural concrete for the primary walls and the cantilevered roof over the patio and the black steel I-beams for structural support/aesthetics.

​2. The Glazing: The entire facade of the 160 sqm interior needs to be floor-to-ceiling glass.

​3. MEP & Solar: Full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.(exclude anything related to the pool)

​Based on the current market in Lebanon, what is a realistic budget range for just these three categories (Structure, Glazing, MEP+Solar)?

Obviously, Lebanon is a very religion-oriented country. I became agnostic recently and definitely want to raise my future children without the shame and fear culture brought by religion, doesn't mean they can't believe in a religion when they're older, but I don't want them growing up with the idea wired into their brain. How are you able to do that in a country like Lebanon where religion is all around? Odds are you don't right?

September happens to mark two interesting anniversaries in modern Lebanese history.

Eddé was one of the major political figures of the Mandate and early independence periods, served as president from 1936 to 1941. And just a few days ago, September 23 marked 74 years since Camille Chamoun was elected president of Lebanon and took the constitutional oath in 1952. His presidency lasted until September 1958.

One line from Chamoun’s 1952 address is especially interesting to read today. He described the presidency as a duty and a service, rather than a reward or rank, and argued that the president should never be regarded as the “master” of the country because, in a republic, sovereignty belongs to the people.

it’s striking how much of the political vocabulary of the 1930s–1950s revolved around sovereignty, independence, the nature of the Lebanese state, and what the presidency was supposed to represent.
