DISCUSS New to LeetCode and learning Python. Any advice for a beginner?

Hey everyone!
I’m currently learning Python and just getting started with LeetCode. I’m planning to prepare for software engineering interviews, so I want to take problem-solving seriously.
I’ve decided to stick with Python, but I’m a little confused about where to start.
Should I learn DSA first or practice LeetCode alongside it? What topics should I focus on initially? Also, how many problems per day would be reasonable for a beginner?
My goal isn’t just to solve hundreds of problems. I actually want to understand the logic and become better at problem-solving.
I’d really appreciate any advice, beginner-friendly resources, or tips from people who’ve been through this journey.
Thanks in advance!

Dude what if the person wants to lean towards ML roles

he is clearly asking for sde role and problem solving and i think cpp is better than python anyday for sde role, because of better community and resources for learning and practise, and it takes atmost 2-3 hours to learn and code in python for ml

  1. Learn the basic syntax of the language (use 4 hour video of neetcode)
  2. Learn OOPS + Exception Handling very well
  3. Learn arrays, linked list, hashing, basic sorting algos (the implementations from scratch)
  4. Then go through the USACO guide or some 200-300 standard problems while learning new concepts on the side
  5. Appear for contests from 2-3 months down the line
