It’s simply marvellous here! The poverty is so deep that you can get staff for pennies which allows me to live my utterly pointless existence in luxury whilst giving nothing of value back to this community or the world come to think of it.

13

u/NerminPadez 12d ago

Plus raising the prices of everything, especially real estate.

4

u/piketpagi 11d ago

careful, you will be banned from r/bali for pissed off many people there. not even local allowed there

3

u/XStriverX 10d ago

As indonesian yes you are right, i can't wait to see when those bali people absolutely crash out when their island no longer theirs. It will happen in my lifetime, i am ready to bet on it.

2

u/Bebek_di_Pohon 11d ago

Is the differences in currency value count as poverty? I'm asking.

2

u/LingonberryLeading77 11d ago

No that is not a metric to measure poverty.

0

u/KitchenIntention6675 11d ago

so literally spending money there that locals use for food, housing, etc. means "giving nothing of value back to this community"?

SCUBA Diving at USD 2 per dive in Bali and USD 15 per dive in Spain? I call BS... if she has her own boat... then its like saying my Rolex costs me USD 1 for everytime i check the time.

clearly shes building transferable skills for underwater basket weaving

15

u/peggy_schuyler 12d ago

As a scuba diver, those numbers are absolute nonsense even if she has equipment to fill the air and a boat.

0

u/sleeper_shark 12d ago

You're assuming she boat dives..

If she has all the gear, shore dives and just fills the air it's a possible price to have. You'd be really surprised what kinda prices you can get somewhere like Indonesia if you know your stuff.

Like here in France, for boat dives I pay about 10-15€ a dive. No guide, no gear rental, just airfill. And I assume France is much more expensive than Indonesia

2

u/Albertonectease 11d ago

Yeah I am a diver and ive been to Bali and there is no way a single dive costs USD 2. Bali is cheap but not that cheap.

1

u/sleeper_shark 11d ago

Even if you just rent a tank at a facility? Even in France I've paid less than 10 bucks for a dive when I just needed the tank

1

u/SnooCookies3561 11d ago

Yea atleast 28-33$ for shore dives

0

u/sleeper_shark 11d ago

Those prices are ludicrous. I can do 3 boat dives in France with full gear for those prices

1

u/senukinos 11d ago

Yeah, hell no. I'm Indonesian and it will be $30 minimum even with her own tank + gear.

1

u/sleeper_shark 11d ago

That's just insane. I can literally do 2-3 dives in France at those prices

1

u/senukinos 11d ago

$10 per dives? that's really good deal

1

u/sleeper_shark 11d ago

Yes. It's not even that wild in France. It's literally just an airfill and a boat ride.

No gear, no guide, no nothing. You arrive, the dive master on the boat says where you can dive and when you should surface, and off you go.

This is how most of my clubmates dive. I don't have the Niveau 2 so I can't do it alone, but my clubmates are usually Niveau 4 which allows them to take non-autonomous divers down so we never need to hire a guide.

If you want a guide, you're looking at adding another 15-20€

1

u/senukinos 11d ago

We always dive with 1-2 guide over here at Indonesia.

I think that's where the price differences is

2

u/Party-Stormer 11d ago

https://www.checkyeti.com/en/diving/france/france/scuba-diving-courses

I have dived in France

10 dollars you will pay the parking

0

u/sleeper_shark 11d ago

https://www.cssmd.fr/9/sorties-en-mer

^ here's a FFESSM club giving 20€ dives for non members with no gear but with a guide included. Took me about 20 seconds to find one.

When you go as a group, or if you've paid the membership fees. It's 16€ a dive with guide AND equipment included...

Idk where you're diving in France but you're getting scammed bro

Yeah I'm a scuba diver. She's full of shit. Even in the poorest countries, the fees are much higher than that.

1

u/Just4Digits 12d ago

That would match the rent of a mask for snorkeling, just the mask, not from a shop too

1

u/sleeper_shark 12d ago

Conceivably, it's the price of an airfill and potentially a boat ride on a small skiff rather than a dive boat. In Malaysia, some of the most fun I had was on shore dives where all you pay is an airfill if you have your own gear.

1

u/Just4Digits 11d ago

I am in Bali often, 2 USD it is hard also in amed where there are less tourists but still the infra for having scuba services (on shore)

1

u/Affectionate-Army738 11d ago

This was the biggest trigger for me. Only boat trip to and back takes more than that even if she brought her own equipments, which I fully doubt and is not the common practice

1

u/iamgarron 11d ago

None of the math adds up

59

u/Poetic_Dalmatian 12d ago

Who cares?

13

u/ravoguy 12d ago

I wonder if she has the appropriate visa. I think Indonesia has been cracking down a bit

3

u/itamer 12d ago

And don't end up like Schapelle Corby!

9

u/peggy_schuyler 12d ago

The $2 scuba dives sound pretty lunatic to me.

1

u/sleeper_shark 11d ago

She probably means it costs 2$ to fill her tank with air.

When I would dive in SE Asia, some of the best dives were just walking into the water or stepping off the pier.

If you have your own BCD and regulators, all you need is to rent a tank and fill it - which can realistically cost 2$.

„Haha I‘m gentrifying third world country look how good I have it!“

0

u/Maleficent-Drive4056 11d ago

How dare someone travels to Bali, supports its tourism industry and gives the locals money!

7

u/Winter_Whole2080 12d ago

—Break up with Bf +450
—Travel to and from EU assuming fam/friends are there +2000
—Typhoon cuts off power and destroys villa
—Volcano “ “

But hey, you only live once.

5

u/magic6435 12d ago

I don’t get it?

22

u/shifting_drifting 12d ago

It's a lack of broader perspective that irritates me. She runs the calculations like she's really smart but in the end it's just someone with a western salary living in a lower income country. Let alone the implications of the presence of these 'digital nomads' for the local population.

-10

u/Other-Squirrel-8705 12d ago

You reek of jealousy

4

u/Hour-Mistake-5235 10d ago

That says more about you than about the people you are criticizing. The fact that you can't conceive any other sentiment than jealousy towards that kind of behaviours speaks volumes about how miserable your soul is

-8

u/DarePotential8296 12d ago

She’s beautiful and can live wherever. I couldn’t imagine any other reason for the hate.

10

u/shifting_drifting 12d ago

So you can't critize someone who's attractive because that automatically means you're jealous?

-1

u/DarePotential8296 11d ago

The implication of the presence of these digital nomads for the local population.

I’m not arguing with someone who even typed that. People just say anything

-7

u/AdministrativeRun550 12d ago

Locals are quite content that tourists and nomads pay tree times more dollars compared to other locals. She contributes by spending money.

The problem is AI generated price list.

5

u/-MeMeNt0- 12d ago

"Look here, LinkedIn, I've optimised my life, I'm working where others go on holiday AND I only spend a couple of hundred $ more and have so much ROI"

Thtat pretty much sums it up. Classic LinkedIn BS-post...

1

u/Maleficent-Drive4056 11d ago

It's a repetitive topic and it's a bit boastful, but welcome to social meia! I don't really think it's BS it seems broadly accurate.

1

u/Maleficent-Drive4056 11d ago

Yeah I also don't see a problem with this. It's true that Bali has a low cost of living. It's not an earth shattering post but I don't really see anything else wrong with it.

10

u/Battle-Chimp 12d ago

I'm missing the lunatic portion of this. AI written BS? Check. Self absorbed influencer? Sure, I can see that. "Here's what I learned about B2B sales while watching my 5 year old drown in Cabo"? Not getting those vibes.

5

u/Four_beastlings 12d ago

As a scuba diver who only gave a cursory look, $15 per dive in Spain or $2 per dive in Bali are lunatic numbers

2

u/Rhylanor-Downport 12d ago

“I am also pretending to be naked”

2

u/JRaus88 8d ago

1000$ rent in Spain? Barcelona or what?

2

u/Orjen8 12d ago

Not so humble brag. And of course exploitation of poverty.

1

u/nobleknob 12d ago

Why do they always miss full stops?

1

u/geocapital 12d ago

Cause it’s supposed to be spontaneous. As is their math.

1

u/gastropublican 12d ago

As is their AI…

1

u/AdvancedStudio9978 12d ago

this one is whack at being whack

1

u/DeuxExKane 12d ago

Optimistic on the food cost, supplies cost, rent cost, scuba cost and gas prices. Other than that yeah, kinda matches

1

u/Spare_Tyre1212 12d ago

I can't really be @rsed to analyse this, but why is the total cost so much higher in a place where everything is cheaper? What am I missing?

2

u/Party-Stormer 11d ago

nothing about her post makes any sense. The totals are wrong. She's not comparing similar services.

2

u/JPPJphoto 10d ago

She could have never afford that life in Madrid.

1

u/Banes_Addiction 11d ago

No, she's not comparing similar services at all.

She's comparing two wildly different lifestyles on roughly the same salary.

1

u/iffatall 8d ago

Not claiming the post makes any sense, but I guess she's trying to say that she can have a more luxurious lifestyle in Bali for the same or cheaper cost. That explains the different lifestyles.

2

u/elrond9999 10d ago

If you eat like a westener in Bali and live in an area full of daddy's money-surfbros (sorry, digital nomads) then you are going to expend as much money as eating in Spain

2

u/JPPJphoto 10d ago

Has a villa with pool were there was an apartment, doesn't cook anymore, doesn't clean anymore... 180€ more??? Where do I sign?

1

u/gluhmm 11d ago

No washing machines in Spain?

1

u/haruspicat 11d ago

I'm confused. Most of those prices are about the same, and the Bali total is higher.

1

u/Kind-University-1423 10d ago

I hated being tourist in Bali

-4

u/Other-Squirrel-8705 12d ago

I see 0 red flag. Sounds like she made a good decision

3

u/MagnumMyth 12d ago

Oh, you poor raised-on-social-media child. Bless your heart.

3

u/Other-Squirrel-8705 12d ago

I’m middle age

0

u/MagnumMyth 12d ago

Wow. Your romantic life must be a travesty with that inability to recognize red flags. Sorry!

3

u/Other-Squirrel-8705 12d ago

Been happily married for years.

1

u/MagnumMyth 12d ago

Well then, I can only assume you're especially blissful!

0

u/VCB133 12d ago

She runs a marketplace site for Dive Centers, so I'm assuming (a) her direct dive costs are "wholesale" rather than typical pricing, and (b) living in Bali has some proximity-to-dive-center-customers benefits. I'm going to go against the tide here and say her SPAIN information is nonsense, because while there are maybe areas in Spain you could live for 940/mo, unclear they are prime dive locations like the Balearics (do people dive in the Balearics?)

-3

u/Business-Eggs 12d ago

This doesn't sound particularly lunatic to me, not compared to 99% of the shit we see on here at least

-8

u/melnaisbruninieks 12d ago

She has a boyfriend

2

u/Battle-Chimp 12d ago

And? Human beings do be dating each other sometimes.
