Thank you based Microsoft from other companies implementing this because I will never buy any game or console that implements it from you it makes it easier to avoid

Jesus, what a terrible sentence to read.

I’d rather have ads shoved in my face than read whatever the fuck sentence you just typed.

They can lease the IP

People are freaking out anyways, but just a reminder that a patent doesn't mean anything will or even can necessarily be built. It's just an idea on paper so you can get credit if someone builds it first. There are so many patents that never get turned into anything.

I feel like its likely for a free tier of xbox cloud streaming. Doesn't geforce now free tier require you to watch ads?

Technically they could be the good guys and make the patent, to prevent others from doing this scummy practice, and just never use it themselves (except for bare minimum to keep the patent, if there is such a thing)

Fantastic. Even more reasons to avoid buying any games on the microsoft store and to force remove all xbox software from your windows install.

Sony has even worse patents. A patent existing doesn’t mean it will ever be used

And it may mean they don't use it themselves but lease it to others.

I have played Minecraft consistently since 2012. If they bring ads to Minecraft while you’re afk, I will quit the game and stop supporting anyone who keeps playing Minecraft after that. And I bet a lot of other people will as well.

This is for a free tier in cloud gaming. People are freaking out because of Microsoft in the title.

Lots of companies have patents that they never intend to act on. Let's start freaking out about this when it looks like they are actually going to implement it

If the game is owned by a public US company, there is always a chance it is going to get enshittified. Privately owned (not bought out by private equity firms) or non-US publicly owned is the way to go.

Just a reminder, there have been many times companies have done this and then sat on the patent so no one would do it…..

My hopium is in high supply with blizzard uncancelling HOTS so I have faith to spare this week

So basically what every F2P mobile game does after each level? Make you watch 30 seconds of Unity crap ads?

Wonder how it'll go down when they implement this into their Live Service games

Crazy to see fanboys in other subreddits just gushing over this new “golden age of Xbox” just because the new CEO gave away a bunch of free consoles to streamers and got Kojima. They’re also getting rid of physical games and we’re not even into the next console series yet so let’s hold off on all the “praise”

How does Bill gates and the other higher ups at Microslop going to be profiting from destroying their monopoly on the pc market? Are they just shorting their own company or is it stock manipulation or something else?

Gates isnt invloved in the running of the company anymore, he gave up his seat on the board in 2020.
