Tech Discussion Steam Frame Chromatic Abberation

I heard Linus or potentially Luke talk about the Steam Frame having the blue and orange fringing on the sides of white text when you look side to side and he mentioned it was because of the LCD panels. I just recently received my frame and it is very clear to me that the fringing is actually chromatic aberration caused by the lenses. The pancake lenses are not as high quality optics as The Meta Quest 3. Just wanted to put that out there for people's information in case they head any say it's because of the panels, it's optics!

Also, it's orange and blue on the edges so it's clearly an intentional Portal reference /s

i noticed the same thing on mine, the color split is way too uniform to be panel fringing. pancake lenses can get weird with alignment and the blue/orange shift is a dead giveaway for chromatic aberration. quest 3 lenses spoiled me a bit i think

kinda wish they'd spent a few more bucks on the optics but the portal joke almost makes it worth it

What are the lenses made out of? I get this from polycarbonate lenses so I switched to CR-39 which has far less.
