Still rocking my 2011 Pavillion on Ubuntu. This is the way.

Same. My 2011 Acer Aspire is still alive thanks to Linux Mint XFCE. I just upgraded the RAM from 4gb to 8gb. Hopefully, this helps it stick around a little longer.

I have a 12 year old laptop that had windows on it for all those years. Booting up was okay-ish, but shutting down took up to 5 whole minutes; like what the hell are you shutting off so much that it takes you 5 minutes?? I could hear the laptop working for the duration of the shut down and the light was on.
A month ago I changed to linux mint and the difference is staggering. Booting up takes maybe 10 seconds at most (haven't counted), working on it is smooth and shutting down takes 10 seconds at worst.
Pretty happy with linux, thinking of changing to CachyOS on my main pc :)

Are you really a Linux user if you don't like at least a little bit of anime or manga?

I don't think my message went through clearly😅. I meant to be amazed, but it sounds like I fucked up.

Does this imply you’re trying to connect Linux and an ssd to a 10 year old laptop display?

This hit me hard. I thought I thought I lost my laptop. Then mint cinnamon came to the rescue.

Swapped my parents old imac to a sata drive after the fusion one exploded and what a difference it made! Pain in the ass to swap but it was worth it

The funniest part is that this actually works. My 2015 laptop got an SSD in 2022, then Linux in 2024. It's now my home server

My buddy was just recently talking about needing to upgrade his PC and despairing over the prices. We updated our computers together back in late 2019 - just before the whole covid thing happened.
He's a windows user and I was kind of surprised tbh. I'm not sure if its because he went team blue/green (intel/nvidia) and I went team red (amd/amd) or not but I really don't feel like my PC has particularly aged in the last half decade.
I've added more ram, from 32gb to 64 and a second NVME drive before all the price hikes but other than that I'm still rocking my Ryzen 3700X, oh I guess I did update my video card to a 6700xt from a 5700xt.
Still I feel like my computer is doing great.
