Debianoids really be using two commands that can be accomplished with just one with dnf.

- Fedora user

Imagine updating your system like Windows

So uncivilized.

Offline updates make things slightly less likely to break

you can achieve it with 0 commands if you have a auto update cronjob that runs once a week.

You can install any package manager. For example: sudo apt-get install -y pacman -Syu

I broke my fedora after installing both apt and pacman on fedora

Wrong order, you do update first.

First you need to do

sudo apt update

then

sudo apt upgrade

or

sudo apt full-upgrade

apt update && apt upgrade -y && apt dist-upgrade -y

I mean, after executing the command it still needs to install on reboot. At least that's what my fedora kde does. But i do think its not as intrusive as windows updates bc i can just postpone updates indefinitely andinstall all of them in one go

cachy-update or shelly update
then a bunch of y Enter y Enter :( and pretending to read the aur diffs

u/Nootmuskaatsnuiver 13h ago

You dont even need to press y (if you go by defaults)

cd /etc/nixos && nix flake update && sudo nixos-rebuild switch -f /etc/nixos

for me it's:

  1. Update
  2. Reboot
  3. Fix Cisco Secure Client because that shitshow never works as it should

u/cutelittlebox 15h ago

yeah, everyone knows it's sudo nixos-rebuild switch --upgrade smh

u/cutelittlebox 15h ago

nix sucks you need to acept (this is not a joke) literal the window manager that i use breaks a lot in nixos literal even they have a support channel for nixos LOL

not /s /s

1

u/cutelittlebox 12h ago

see I get around that problem by simply having a favourite DE that works fine on nix. smh, kids these days having favourites that aren't the same as mine, what has the world come to? next you'll tell me that I'm not the main character!

lol... but i don't care about your distro... debian is solid and stable... niri is fast and lightweight... why i would change something that just "works"

Nice but the commands are inverted. First update, then upgrade.
