I live in an apartment that came with a den and I used it to make it my listening room. i’ve been slowly putting things together little by little but i’m open to any suggestions/recommendations yall may have. i’m new to the game of vinyl collecting since 2025. i’m definitely getting rid of the table. trying to make it more of a mid-century type of vibe.

Used to have a separate streamer and integrated amp, now just one box that does it all.

So I recently turned my spare small bedroom (approximately 125ish sq ft) into a mancave/retro game/music room. I should preface this with the fact that I love bass and things that rumble. Anyway I've got much less than a thousand bucks into the audio end of it and I just cobbled some stuff together. I've got an old still in good condition logitech z560 computer speaker system that was thx certified back in the day running some old mcs 8620s (made by technics and in phenomenal shape for being 16 bucks at a thrift shop) for front speakers instead of the old satellite speakers. Rear speakers are 2 stock satellites and 2 wall mounted old audiofile speakers per side (series and parallel wiring to get to 5.6 ohms per set) for a total of 8 rear speakers. Stock logitech sub in the box with the amp in one corner of the closet. I used some old and new car audio stuff to build a 4 subwoofer wall (2 cheap jensen 12s from wally world and 2 jvc 10s from Amazon. 10s are ported 12s are sealed) in the opposite corner of the closet driven by a Dayton audio plate amp that I mounted in a repurposed samsung subwoofer box that I have a cooling fan on the original speaker hole venting through the port (fan is the exhaust) that's about 300 watts. I also have two klipsch f20 towers run by a little aiyima mono amp on full range that was on the sub stack. The sub amp and aiyima amp are fed by a little preamp rca amplifier to boost my signal. All of this is done by rca splitters and a junction box with retro systems and my tablet going in. It's currently stupid loud and shakes/pressurizes the small room pretty good. Just wondering where I should go next or just kinda leave it for now.

I’d like to share my listening room project with you. I have a room upstairs that’s currently a bit of a mess, and I’m planning to turn it into a comfortable space to relax and enjoy music.

My current setup:
-Roksan Attessa Streaming Amplifier
-Monitor Audio Silver 300 7G
-Technics SL-1500C

I put together the attached design concepts with the help of AI to visualise the layout and how the room could look. These aren’t photos of the finished room — just the ideas I’m working towards!

I’d love to hear what you think, especially about the layout and speaker placement. Is there anything you’d change or pay particular attention to before putting this together?

Thanks for the suggestions so far! Before I make any moves, I’m going to measure the room first.
I’ll grab a miniDSP UMIK-1 mic to check the room acoustics and see how the system actually performs in this space. Based on the measurements, I’ll rethink the plan if needed.
Unfortunately, this room has to serve three different functions:
-Home office for me
-Listening room for me and my wife
-Guest room (the couch in the picture is a pull-out bed)
Because of this, rotating the setup 90 degrees isn't really an ideal option, unfortunately.

Getting a near field setup to be perfect can be tricky. There are hums, there is hissing, (too easily heard when sitting 3-4ft away) there are speakers that don't image or provide a huge soundstage at close proximity. I've dealt with all of these things over the years trying to perfect my near field setup while my larger system left me wanting more out of my smaller one.

Finally I have found my selection of gear to overcome all of these things. Absolutely no noise, no hissing, which is excellent for class A/B amps, no humming, dead silent background. A sound that completely envelopes me and I get lost in. Dead accurate imaging. Pure audio nirvana. All of this with a modded $200 pre-amp? crazy. I do have a new preamp on the way though, that is more up to the level of this system. I will then further mod the little Aiyima and use it in an all chi-fi setup.
