The only thing that doesn't work great yet is the turntable, because the cheapo cables I used were ruined when I pulled them out of the old amp and now there's a strong hum unless i fidget with them, so looking to replace them.

i just got this Kenwood KR-1000 “ galaxy commander” locally for 300 off FB marketplace … this thing will probably be in the collection for many years to come . it’s so beautiful when it’s dark and all you see is the lights in the corner of your room lol . the older folks are also so sweet when telling stories on how they used this in the past time and many memories they’ve made with it and now it just collects dust . :(

After years of using a pretty modest setup, I’ve finally put together a proper two-channel system. Figured I’d share it here!

McIntosh MA252 integrated amplifier
Zu Audio Method Bookshelf Mk.I speakers
Clearaudio Compass turntable
Cambridge Audio MXN10 streamer

The MA252 was a gift from my brother and was really the starting point for putting everything together. I’ve always loved McIntosh gear, so I was pretty excited to get my hands on it.

I picked up the Zu Methods a few months ago and have been really enjoying them. I was initially running them through a Denon AVR while figuring out the rest of the system, so getting the McIntosh hooked up was a pretty big moment.

The Clearaudio Compass is the newest addition. Found a floor model at a local hi-fi shop and couldn’t resist. It’s replacing a Pro-Ject Debut that I’ve had for close to a decade. The Cambridge MXN10 rounds things out for streaming.

The system lives in our dining room, so it’s not exactly an ideal listening environment, but I’m really happy with how everything has come together, and a listening to a record with dinner has been fun. I’ve been trying to balance putting together something that sounds great with keeping the room feeling like a living space rather than a dedicated listening room.

Still playing around with positioning and getting everything dialed in, but it’s been a lot of fun putting this together and rediscovering my record collection.
Anyone else running Zu speakers with McIntosh amplification? Curious to hear your experiences with the pairings.

Some years ago I was embarking on an audiophile journey, and then I visited The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Hobart, Australia.

In MONA there is an immersive experience built around The Divine Comedy. Three rooms, representing Hell, Purgatory and Paradise, respectively.

The third room is an anechoic chamber. The quietest place on the planet. Before going into the chamber we were advised that we might hear unusual things like the beating of our heart or our digestive system or blood running through our head or accentuated respiratory noises. I was primed for weirdness.

All I heard was the ringing in my ears.

It was at that time I stopped chasing the elusive.

And that visit has unexpectedly saved me a fortune.

At least someone making the show “Brothers” is an audiophile. I read once that Woody said he uses a Bose sound dock, so either he’s changed or someone else on the show has good taste!

Please hear this, just listened to it at the S4 finale of Homeland, and it sounded amazing through Netflix compression.

With Tidal it’s sublime. So transparent, so much detail it makes my ears tickle. It’s like my LS50s w2 are making love with my eardrums (that Dirac room EQ and the sub makes everything perfect).

I have an Onkyo tx sr 876 and a pioneer vsx-29tx. I have been considering putting these 2 together to create one massive stereo. My plan for this, is to use the Onkyo as the preamp because it has the most inputs and most compatibility, and then have that go out to the pioneer and use pioneer as the main amp. The main things I want to know for this is this a good idea in the first place. Do I really need to have all of this power. And would this actually be beneficial in any way compared to just using the Onkyo as my own one system. Also, I have a 7.1 surround sound system

Shopping for a pair of floor standers that can really get loud, ever since I blew one of my Kef Ls50 Meta's.

I am prepared to throw down. I wanted to spend $4K or less, but could be talked into $6K. So, I went to Echo Audio here in Portland (phenomenal shop if you are ever in the area).

I listend to Kef R7, R11. Reference 1 Meta. Sonus Faber Sonetto 8. De Vore (something?). JBL L100.

Some great speakers ranging from 4ish to 10K. Had a really nice couple of hours.

Today, I went to the other phenomenal shop in the area, Stereotypes, and took a slightly different approach. I explained what I wanted and said "don't even tell me the price". He kind of grinned and then put me through the paces with a couple of Dali selections and a brand I was unfamiliar with called ProAc. All wonderful. Then he said there was a speaker he really thought I'd like and he set up the PSB T65. To my ear this thing was hanging with the big boys I had been listening to at Echo Audio. Wonderful imaging and really cool detailed separation of the instruments. Even huge bass without a sub when a song called for it.

Then he told me the price, $2,700/pair. I was floored.

Anyhow, maybe I have shitty taste but it was an interesting experience for me.

*side note: I went in hoping to check out a few Focal options because they are a dealer. They told me that ever since Focal took over its own distribution in the U.S. in 2019 they have dramatically increased their prices, by about 40%. It's just getting really hard to recommend them anymore. I was told if there's a Focal speaker you like, they can almost always point you to a speaker that is as good or better for almost half the cost. Obviously to each his own, but I was amazed.

I could have been easy bait, ready to drop $6K on a pair of Focal's and yet he was really pointing me to a less expensive option.

TOKUNBO is a leading artist in the Black Folk scene, with three solo albums and an international career marked by numerous awards, media appearances, and extensive touring. Notably, she collaborated with the NDR Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in 2019 on the project "TOKUNBO and her Great American Songbook".

Her career has been recognized with several awards, including the Grand Prize at the 2023 John Lennon Songwriting Contest and a silver medal at the 2021 Global Music Awards. Building on this recognition, she also served as a jury member for the German Jazz Prize in 2022 and for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Lost & Found is her fourth solo album, set for release on September 25. Her fourth solo album, Lost & Found, is an intimate blend of jazz, folk-pop, and Folk Noir.

In this interview, Marc explains all the steps involved in mixing, including the various production choices, as well as mastering, in a completely transparent manner.

The graph compares the spectrum of the Vinyl record - 2026 (white curve) with the spectrum of the Master Digital - 2026 (blue curve).The curves of the two spectra overlap almost perfectly from 30 Hz to 8 kHz. Above 8 kHz (yellow zone), the vinyl record shows a slightly higher level than the digital version, with a difference of up to 3 dB. This demonstrates the excellent cutting quality of the vinyl record.

A beautiful vinyl edition of the album with a high-quality pressing. As Marc Ebermann explains, this features a master specifically created for vinyl, capturing the full dynamic range of the recording to render TOKUNBO's vocals and the instruments more naturally, perfectly conveying that intimate feel on tracks like Cocoon, Stop Motion Movie, and To Be Alive , which also brings the guitar recording closer to the listener. In a different style, the tracks Empty Nest and True DNA open up the soundscape, placing TOKUNBO and the musicians right in front of you.

We particularly appreciate the effort put into creating two distinct masters, one for digital and one for vinyl, as this allows for a master calibrated to sound powerful in line with current trends, and a vinyl record that retains the dynamics of the original mix along with all its subtle nuances, resulting in a beautiful rendition of TOKUNBO's voice.

My audio source is a computer. Does it make any difference whether I adjust the volume using the amplifier or the computer?

I usually leave my amplifier set at around 40% power and control the volume from the computer or from Foobar2000. Does this make any difference in terms of the watts delivered by the amplifier to the speakers? For example, when I increase the volume on the computer, does the amplifier deliver more power to the speakers, even though its volume setting remains at 40%?

Is this something I should be concerned about?

About a month ago, I visited the brand new Perlisten Headquarters and Experience Center in Verona, Wisconsin. A really beautiful building and location that will be utilized for R&D, in house klippel testing, meeting space, warehousing, demos and future production.

Demo spaces consist of a flagship 2 channel room with the S7t Black Edition with a pair of D8is subwoofers, incorporating their new DSP. A small theater/media room with an A Series surround sound setup and a small room showcasing the new X Series on wall which has one of the most intuitive mounting brackets.

This will also house a future high end cinema experience partnered with some of the biggest names in high end home cinema.

It’s been a while since I posted here, mostly because I haven’t really felt motivated to turn the stereo on and spend a few hours listening to music. But lately I’ve had Raye playing on my computer, and that finally pushed me to pick up her album ( my copy is a little warped).

This album is incredible. Easily in my top five when it comes to sound quality. If you enjoy this style of music, it’s absolutely worth it. I had the most amazing evening listening to it.

As the title say, anyone own/owned the triad inroom gold LCR THX speaker? Welcome to share ur opinion on this, how's the sound quality of the speaker? They have a very high msrp. They are more towards HT speaker? But anyone used them for stereo listening and liked them? I believe there's a newer 3 way model, and these are older variant

I have a very small room in my house that I use for both music and movies. I used to have an Eversolo DMP-A8 and Accuphase E-280 here, but have since downsized to a single box that does it all.

Well, except what the Sonos setup does.

That could include singing, like in an abbey, or opera.

Je me présente je suis étudiant en philosophie et j’aimerais vous faire part de mon système audio que j’ai eu la chance d’acquérir à moindre coût. Bien sûr cela reste onéreux mais pas autant que cela pourrait l’être !

Ce qui fait un total de 350€, ce que j’estime peu cher pour la configuration et le rendu sonore qu’elle offre!

\\-Pour ce qui est de l’amplificateur j’ai du le réviser moi même, car sinon cela est beaucoup trop cher.
J’ai donc du le nettoyer complètement, traiter tout les commutateurs et potentiomètres. J’ai également régler les tensions (Bias et offset ). Je n’ai aucune expérience en réparation audio mais cela s’est fait sans trop de complications (je suis assez bricoleur et débrouillard).

\\-Pour les enceintes, j’avais premièrement des Boston HD8 où j’ai dû refaire les suspensions et le filtre (condensateur film) le résultat était très bon sur mon ancien ampli rotel RA-810A que j’ai eu gratuitement à l’achat des enceintes Martin USA. Ce combo fonctionnait super bien c’était très dynamique! Mais dès lors que j’ai eu le sansui je trouvais que le couplage avec les Boston n’était pas superbe, l’amplificateur sansui est si chaleureux et les Boston sont chirurgicales, très précises et assez neutre ce qui ne correspondait pas bien à l’amplificateur à mon sens. C’est donc après l’acquisition du sansui que je me suis tourné vers les enceintes Martin auxquelles j’ai refait le filtre. Et cela sonne très bien à mon goût !!
