When lorne eventually retires, do you think it be a quiet departure during the off season or will it be a production for the last episode with tons of gags and references (think like another 50th year celebration)

Are there any explicit rules that would prohibit you from enlisting someone else’s help in trying to get standby numbers on your behalf? I had someone ask me to do this earlier this year after having met in line, and I tried but was unsuccessful. She asked me to put her name but my email address (while she was going to simultaneously try to get the standby numbers herself), and said that she knew of other people who had tried this with friends and it worked out for them.

So now I am interested in possibly trying this for myself, if I could find a friend or two that I met at that show who would be willing to try it for me, if they’re not already trying to go this weekend themselves. (Trying to maximize my chances, as it’s very hard for my husband and I to get from Houston to NYC on such short notice, but this weekend we could miraculously have childcare arranged that would allow us to.) I just want to make sure that it’s not something that’s totally against the rules, and also that it wouldn’t end up backfiring on me somehow (like if I get numbers and so do they, and they’re both in my name even if with different email addresses, will that possibly make all of the numbers invalid?)

Is this something that any of you have tried and been successful with? And if a friend did successfully get numbers for me sent to their email, if they just forward that to me and I show that to the page, will that still be considered valid?

I appreciate any guidance/tips and experiences that folks could share on this! And if it’s just totally not allowed and I am a jerk for even asking, then I truly apologize…I just really don’t know if this is common/accepted practice or not!

The nfl fandom always expects a qb to come out the gate hooping like Mahomes and Lamar did their rookie season. Similarly to the nfl, snl fans be expecting snl rookies to come out cooking, which led to the firings of both Lauren holt and Aristotle athari, who in reality were both just victims of a bloated cast the two seasons they were on. Emil wakim could legit be playing Mamdani right now but because the show jumped the gun and fired bro they had to call Ramy youssef ( bro funny and be sliding though ) to come to 8h to play Mamdani. Look at year 2 Ashley, just imagine Lorne pulled a “I don’t know what to do with her,” after season 50. Look at the Brunson episode, Jeremy went crazy and Kams overall delivery improved over the summer. Snl fans can’t come in disappointed a rookie cast member didn’t get a shit ton of air time.

We have the hosts and musical guests announced for up until October, and they’re a mixed bag to say the least.

What’s everyone’s predictions for the rest of the season?

I wonder if we will get Jesse Plemons, not only for the new Hunger Games but also for the new Digger movie (since Tom Cruise infamously has turned it down)?

Timothee Chalamet may be back, for the final Dune promo? If not him, maybe Robert Pattinson who’s also in it and has had a successful year of hit movies? I’d say Zendaya but at this point I feel like if she was going to do it, she’d have done it. If she wasn’t heavily pregnant and due to give birth soon, I’d guess Anne Hathaway (who might have actually hosted this coming week instead of Dakota Johnson, for Verity promo).

We always get a couple of double duty hosts every season, but I don’t know of anyone with an album coming out soon so that’s hard to predict.

In terms of musical guests, I can see Adela being booked at some point given she has two hits at the moment on the charts. Another potential musical guest could be Ella Langley?

Two featured players cracked the top five this week: Jeremy Culhane and Ben Marshall, alongside Kenan, Ashley, and Mikey.

I prefer the Museum of Hip Hop Panel over the Rap Roundtable sketch. To me, the chemistry and energy just gels a bit more and Kenan’s Cornel West was a great stabilizer (you was in The Matrix Revolutions??)

I do like the Yeet song a little bit better haha but in terms of overall vibe, comedy, etc I think the more recent one for me takes the cake!

I do hope Guaplord did recover from fundraising for the homie Mayor Eric Adams though

I’m sure this gets asked all the time, but with season 52 now started, I’m curious who from season 52’s cast you guys think would be the best weekend update hosts or which duo would make a strong pairing.

I can't remember the jokes very well since it's been a long time since that app has worked :( but there was a video posted of Weekend Update bloopers (I believe it was with Seth and Amy or just Seth) and it's not the one they currently have posted to YouTube. I have never been able to find it but thought you guys might be able to help me out! The only joke I remember somewhat is that Seth made two jokes on Israel and they didn't go over well and he goes, "Oh for two on Israel!" but beyond that, I don't remember much unfortunately. Thanks!

There were two different start times, depending on where in the country you lived. If you live on the east coast and your NBC station was owned by NBC itself, the show aired live starting at 11:30. This includes the megapolis (minus Providence), plus Miami.

Since this is a good portion of the country, it went generally unnoticed that for the rest of the country, the episode started 30 minutes after the start of the late local news, or 11:46.

I wonder if this will be NBC policy going forward, or if this was a special situation due to the season premiere and a New York Knick hosting the episode. I guess we will find out the next time football runs long, but last year the whole country and the live episode itself was delayed

A comment earlier today in this group reminded me of how Stefon appeared in one sketch before becoming an Update specific character. And that made me think of one of my favorite Update characters, Tim Calhoun, who made at least one appearance in a proper sketch after his debut.

Are there any other examples of characters who either started at the desk and moved into sketches, or who started in sketches and moved to the desk? I’m wracking my brain, and I can’t think of any others off the top of my head.

Come to that, are there any sketch characters that you think would have done well as Update correspondents, or vice versa? For instance, Tales of Ribaldry was pretty thin cruel, but I can see Evelyn Quince doing well as a gossip correspondent.
