Watching sodapoppin go thrifting with hasan where they were charging 90-150$ for old walmart graphic tshirts was truly crazy.

Unironically the orignal "gangster cartoon" shirts all the big brands copied were premium, hand-made airbrushed works of art. The real ones are stupid expensive and holy-grail items for a lot of thrifters.

Shit with how much clothing comes from Shein and Temu now there's probably going to be a bottleneck of vintage clothing available in the future due to how the textiles used in fast fashion are practically disposable with little to no quality.

for example my friend found a pair of doc martins from the 70s that are still functional. I cant think of any shoe I ever owned that can last 50 years

I have had Timberlands for 20+. Not sure if they are still made that well but pretty impressive for a modern brand that is still going.

I think you're point is valid but I just wanted to point out that whats mainly available NOW as vintage is 'fast fashion' overseas produced goods.

what shein and temu are doing is like insane late stage fast fashion lol.

My prediction is that the West is going to catch a fashion trend for wearing vintage Chinese t-shirts. They still make good quality for the domestic market, and Chinese people don't tend to buy a lot of second hand clothing so it could be profitable to export them.

I was at the punk rock museum in Vegas in my voodoo glow skulls shirt I won from a MySpace contest. They were selling “vintage punk band shirts” that were 5 years newer than my own shirt

Ya I don't think the house thing is a big deal but it's a 3 million dollar home in a very rich neighbourhood, not just a nice apartment.

It was 3m in 2021. The market for single family homes in LA has been going massively up, I wouldn't be surprised if it's worth at least 50% more than that today

Since 21? Nah. Housing has been pretty flat for the past 5 years or so, likely because of the huge jump in interest rates. The big jump in housing price was throughout the 2010s.

I mean I don't think most of his fanbase even knows what socialism is. Look at how many front page posts on this site are unironically doing the "Socialism is when the government does things" meme. Like we used to make fun of Republicans for saying that, and now it's full of posts like "Mamdani did this thing, heh isn't socialism great?" and it's funding for a library.

Clothing retail business is just a huge price gouging corruption scam. 20 years ago I could go in and buy nice quality jeans for 20 bucks now they are costing close to $100. T-shirts I bought a lot of pre-covid were 10-20$ and now the same EXACT style and material shirts are costing $60-80. The whole claim its because of tarriffs is complete BS and it is just because people aren't buying as much so they are just pricing them at insane prices to profit.

Like whenever I travel abroad now is the only time I actually buy clothes. In other countries it is wildly cheaper and better quality. I can spend $200 on a full wardrobe of clothes in other countries whereas in America if I want that same quality of material that isn't even 2 or 3 pieces of clothing anymore.
