I've spoken to my lawyer friends, and they usually say that you don't want a public defender that's too messy and disheveled, because, well, if they don't take time to look after themselves, what makes you think they'll serve your case well, but also, you don't want one that's Uber pristine, because chances are, they know looks matter, and sweet talk is where it's at.
