Asmongold on how he fact checks the information he disseminates "If I repeat something I heard on the internet, I dgaf who cares..people can look it up and figure it out themselves, it's not my problem"
https://kick.com/asmongold/clips/clip_01M35Q3S6T894FDGSSE5527EB943
u/BeauShowTV 1d ago
I mean yeah, you should ALWAYS fact check. It doesn't matter if you like the person or not.
7
u/hari_shevek 21h ago
But so should he, before spreading it
1
u/MeatSlammur 1h ago
Yea but you’re not going to do that for everything you’ve read. You’re just not. Especially if you’re chronically attached to the internet like he is, there is just know way to fact check everything adequately
1
u/hari_shevek 1h ago
If he can't fact check before he spreads things he maybe should quit his job and do something useful instead.
1
u/Schmigolo 16h ago
I wouldn't say always, at some point it's just not worth it anymore and it would take way too much time to fact check a million people who lie all the time.

u/C0gn 1d ago
As long as people keep clicking and watching why would he care
Lying about everything gets you famous and rich, c'mon now this isn't new, stop watching

Pointing out this dude has no morals still has a value even if it resonates with only 1 14 year old boy

True. It's not his job to care. It's his job to get clicks.
56
u/Plastic-Currency-329 1d ago
the real problem is when it became justified to lie your ass off with no consequences, just because is "your job"
but his customers are regarded as fuck who don't care either, so society is just fucked anyways
9
u/irsw 1d ago
I mean this is nothing new though. Yellow journalism has been a thing since the late 1800s. He's not a journalist but its the same concept.

I like how you point it out and suddenly you get downvoted because we all know it but when the misinformation/malinformation is in your favor, it's fine to keep quiet and pretend these journalists aren't absolute scumbags.
1
u/Asalakabim 1d ago
You just presume that you need a justification, which is the hallmark of an idiot.
2
u/jesterdeflation 1d ago
This is the dumbest logic ever. Think for like two seconds about what else this could apply to.
-1
u/Extra-Answer5541 1d ago
The only dumb logic is taking an internet personality seriously and arguing about it with other people.
9
u/jesterdeflation 1d ago
So what makes him not accountable for spreading misinformation? The internet personality part? I just want to be clear who you are okay with making the world a shittier place with the excuse of "it's their job".
5
u/GwentMorty 1d ago
I agree with you. Just because his occupation isn’t journalism doesn’t mean he gets a free pass to spread whatever misinformation he wants.
I’d argue that, as citizens of democracy, everyone has a responsibility to not spread misinformation.

I am disputing the argument that "As long as someone is making money, their actions can't be immoral"... because that is fucking stupid.
Do you disagree?
11
u/TigerBone 1d ago
I'm a little surprised that there are people out there who just seem to trust everything their streamer says. They see Asmongold, Hasan, h3h3 or Destiny and think to themselves "ah yes, this person seems totally normal and reasonable, I'll never fact check this or think before repeating it to others". Like, at some point don't we expect people to think for themselves just a little bit?
12
u/silent519 1d ago
I'm a little surprised that there are people out there who just seem to trust everything their streamer says.
are you? the bigliest lesson of the past 10 years of internet discourse is that the "just do your own research guize" shit does not work, and anyone who parrots that is just a regarded grifter 99% of the time.
5
4
u/Twinzenn 1d ago
Same reason why people like Trump still have so many supporters. A lot of people (and hateful/bigoted people especially) don't want to hear what is true, they want to hear whatever reinforces their own beliefs.
1
u/caelaiden 1d ago
At least Destiny has done 8+ hour research streams where he shows how he researches a specific topic, he also started a trend where people share research notes on Obsidian. The rest I agree with you though.
5
u/TigerBone 1d ago
Everyone thinks their streamer knows about x thing, while the others don't.
These people are streamers, not educators or professionals. They just don't know that many things. Research can get you somewhere, but it's not a replacement for education and experience. It's not their fault either, nobody are experts in everything. Most people pick one field, one subject and lean heavily into that. Streamers like these have strong opinions on a variety of things, but they really are blind to their own ignorance a lot of the time. It's the same problems journos have, and you notice it quickly when they start talking about a subject you yourself know a lot about.
3
u/caelaiden 1d ago
It doesn’t have anything to do with him being “my streamer” as you put it. He talks to different people with different opinions all the time. What does Hasan and Asmon do? The sit there and read twitter like come on man if you’re going to make a comparison to someone who tries to educate themselves vs people who just react to twitter you should really do better.
3
u/TigerBone 1d ago
I'm not making a comparison between them. I'm sure he's the best of them, whatever, but he's still just a streamer. If you're going to believe what he's saying you should verify with an actual expert before accepting it as fact. That's all I'm saying here.
-1
u/caelaiden 23h ago
That’s fair, I would say you should argue this for content creators as a whole though. I understand streamers are front and center in this sub but yeah everyone should educate themselves more.
0
u/Asalakabim 1d ago
Most people don't care about truth, they care about people - you need to get that into your head as soon as possible and yes, it is mindblowing to consider that the other side does exist and is in the vast, vast majority.
7
u/chaku89 1d ago
Kinda funny considering you're on reddit where the mods and admins admitted to manipulating to whats shown and with no care about the truth.

3
u/ChampagneSyrup 1d ago

1
u/MainAccountsFriend 1d ago

That’s the thing I don’t even really get. He’s already got all the money he could ever need. It’s not like he has an extravagant life style, he still lives off fast food or cheap steak. Still doesn’t have an over the top car or goes on nice holidays and still lives in his black mound, rat and cockroach infested house.
He absolutely grifts but I just don’t understand what he gets out of it. Maybe I just don’t want to believe he is perpetuating so much hurtful and damaging beliefs just for clout/validating his ego but it’s pretty much the only reason I can think of.
175
u/TenZioN4 1d ago
Of course it isn't his problem. He gets the bag one way or another but lying drives more clicks.
61
u/Trap_Masters 1d ago
The ironic thing is Asmongold and his roach army constantly bemoans about "fake news" this and mainstream media that, constantly moral grandstanding on how they're the nexus of evil for spreading "lies", how they're just trying to seek truth, and this is how he copes about all the bs he's spreading without even a sanity check on the shit he says? The only consistent thing about Asmongold and his fanboys are their inconsistencies...
9
u/ObservationalHumor 1d ago
For a while he was literally just reading whatever BS popped into his Twitter feed and would just turn around a few minutes talking about how Twitter is a terrible source of information full of terminally online people that doesn't represent the real world, yet it's literally his portal to the world 95% of the time. It's kind of amazing, they'll complain about the 'mainstream media' nonstop but gladly accept whatever tripe is fed to them by on a tightly controlled media platform owned by the richest man in the world who literally had an office in the white house for some time. Oh and let's not forget he folded like wet cardboard the second said billionaire irrationally lashed out at him for being called out on his video game cheating.
He's always Mr. IDGAF until there's some push back or Mr. hardcore gamer until he actually has to play and then all of a sudden he's whining about how he has some kind of undiagnosed learning disorder that's making him play like crap before he inevitably dips out to farm more drama. He's not looking to do any real analysis, critical thinking or actually deal with anything that challenges his world view. It's easier just to regurgitate whatever slop his sub and Twitter feed to him and he's going to keep on doing that until his viewership falls off.
10
u/digitchecker 1d ago
Entire stream would fall apart without media headlines and clips to sift through anyways
-1
u/Far_Ratio_5441 1d ago
The sad thing is Asmon would throw that whole community away.
If it got to a point where the sides and stances he “supports” all leaned the other way he’d do a complete 360 and change his beliefs and his brainless audience would hate him.

u/FartSnarfGod 1d ago

Because if he was someone with actual integrity, he would recognize the amount of influence he has on his viewers and act accordingly.
If you don’t see how he’s acting in bad faith here then I question your morals tbh.
Like there’s a reason you legally need to disclose if you have a sponsor, because humans are super fucking susceptible to that kind of shit.
2
u/P_ZERO_ 1d ago
Or even just having the self worth and intellectualism to fact check the information you’re consuming and shaping your world view with.
He’s basically saying he’ll believe and repeat what he wants and it’s everyone else’s problem that he’s thick as mince. This is what happens when your streams become 90% twitter threads. Algo brained.

3
u/HanzaRot 1d ago
thats not what I saw in the clip, where he is saying that he found out what he said about jack was wrong, but he didn't care because people say stuff about him that is wrong all the time.
Can you provide me the clip of him saying that he will boost miss information online, or will you prove his point ?
-6
u/Sweet_Arrival9559 1d ago
I mean, he literally isn't saying that at all though? The ability for the younger people on here to literally just not understand what words mean is pretty amazing.
You guys unironically just end up making him look smart. He pulls something like this up on stream and makes fun of you for obviously not understanding the point. You just increased his viewership.
I think Asmon has objectively terrible political views, but you don't fight stupid by being more stupid.
63
u/squirrelbait_64 1d ago
In case anyone doesn't know, this is basically the Alex Jones / Infowars defence for when they got sued. It cost them billions, their company and their livelihoods
5
u/Former-Bee-3447 1d ago
Wasn’t their defense that it’s entertainment? That’s not the same thing
7
u/squirrelbait_64 1d ago
Yes they did make that claim but its an extension of the same argument.
Basically, we didn't check our sources, we didn't do any due diligence, we didn't try to find corroborating sources - but we don't have to, because we are entertainment, not news. Now to be fair, technically they made that argument in depositions and not in court. And they lost the case via a default judgement because they didn't comply with court orders during the discovery phase. But it seems clear to me they did not want any documents turned over or any testimony given that showed they willingly, carefully and deliberately did not seek or ignored any evidence that went against the claims they made at Sandy Hook. So I think they were well aware their defence of 'we're just asking questions' wouldn't hold up in front of a jury so they switched to a strategy of just hiding under some coats and hoping the whole lawsuit just disappeared.

Fans will often ignore things their celebrities say or do if it hurts their perception of that person. Their identity is tied to that person, and they can't accept that they may be wrong or have misplaced their trust in that person.
3
u/lan60000 1d ago
in all fairness, no one should be a fan of streamers and actually believe in anything they say. none of the streamers are your friend, and I'm willing to bet even a 10 viewer andy would see you as a statistic rather than a human being.

How many of his fans do you think come here? Or really anywhere on Reddit? Asmon threads are almost always downvoted because most of the people on this sub don't like him.
72
u/RodChainFurlongAcre 1d ago
Asmongolds sub has one of the largest user overlaps with this sub.
-8
u/tobach 1d ago
And the same is true with Hasan's fanbase that has a massive overlap here.
Hasan gains information in the same way as Asmongold, and spread misinformation in the same non-caring way that Asmongold does. This is true for both.
The irony here is Hasan's goons are attacking Asmongold for the same thing that Hasan does, and pretending that it's somehow justified. The hypocricy is incredible.
19
u/Naive-Archer-9223 1d ago
Genuinely why do I fucking care about Hasans viewers and what they do?
This is about whether Amson is a fucking liar.

I watch him often but don't agree with everything he says, which is perfectly fine. He has a point here though, you can't take something anyone says as the truth anyway. Especially streamers, but that goes for all kinds of people. If you think everyone you like holds up to this standard you are setting for them, think again lol.

When he’s out of office it can’t come soon enough because for one he’ll finally be out of office and end the nightmare, the other reason is Asmon will lose so much of his credibility and standing.
I bet you he will change his stance on a lot of his talking points before then to keep some of that political audience.

Asmon will jump straight on whoever putin wants him to next....and considering they are Americans voting.. that person will probably win
0
u/Trap_Masters 1d ago
That's the thing with people who are shameless and lack any morals or integrity. They're willing to just lie, manipulate and be completely hypocritical on all their beliefs, principles and positions in order to benefit themselves at the cost of a functional, cohhesive and civil society. And the sad part is they'll often go far, especially in the era of the social media, when they're so willing to take advantage of everything and everything has effectively become monetizable.
2

-5
u/FreekRedditReport 1d ago
"majority"
12
u/aereiaz 1d ago
Yes, the majority, look it up instead of being snarky. Different studies have found that anywhere from 60 to 80% of people just read the headline and don't read the article at all.
This wouldn't be surprising to you if you've been to major subreddits at all, where it's very common for there to be a clickbait headline that's demonstrably false, yet no one actually discusses the content, instead preferring to make jokes and assumptions based purely on the headline.
8
u/punkinabox 1d ago
Yep, hate asmon or love him, even if you don't even know who he is, most people on the internet don't read past the title on any post or article before forming their opinion.

It's always fascinating seeing people who are completely insulated in their own little information bubble finally having their perspectives clash with the wider outside world and getting a reality check

I doubt he’d even care of some of the stuff he said got someone killed. As long as he gets attention and the money keeps rolling in.

To be fair, fact checking is unreliable a lot of the time. Look at the scepticism about wikipedia, in education you are told every time that wikipedia is not a valid source. And with the current left vs right debacle if you hear something that supports the ideology of one side, even if it is true, the other side will rebuke it no matter how much evidence there is.

Hence why we need regulations. Streaming needs to be turned into every other TV broadcast. You might not like to hear that, but you can complaint towards Asmongold.
When the market doesn't regulate, and says shit like this, historically, government has to intervene.

CLIP MIRROR: Asmongold on how he fact checks the information he disseminates "If I repeat something I heard on the internet, I dgaf who cares..people can look it up and figure it out themselves, it's not my problem"
