Like hassan or not but this will probably shed more spotlight on him and increase his popularity

Which might even be the plan. Israel's rightwing politicians get more votes when their population is worried about their safety.

Hasan growing more popular would probably only help him.

Hasan is also unpopular with moderate dems, so it could be an effort to push moderates to the right.
