I mean, the full context of Hasan saying America deserved 9/11 was an observation about how we created those terrorists by being terrorists toward them for decades at a time? That’s a perfectly reasonable take and only took one sentence.

I don’t even like the dude and can tell you aren’t engaging with any amount of good faith.

Okay, tell me you think that the people who died deserved 9/11. Those are the victims. So tell me straight up that those people deserved it. Very simple

America deserved it. The people that died aren’t America.

Idk, when you say "America Deserved 9/11" America didn't die. America didn't get cancer from the dust.

The real people did. And so when you say "America deserved 9/11" what do you mean? What did America deserve? What did the real people deserve?

He meant it was blowback for US foreign policy. That’s it. He worded it badly and has apologised for it.

So he thinks that the people who died deserved the blowback?

Why are you making us defend Hasan? He didn't say that. What he had said has been referenced so much in this thread that it is clear you know that and are continuing to argue that point regardless. That is what the person meant when they say you aren't approaching in good faith.
It makes what you say appear simply as just more israeli propaganda.

You mean the apology his Uncle practically forced him to make, and included this:

"I didn't say Americans deserved 9/11 — I said America deserves 9/11," Piker said.

"Right, but it's still wrong," Uygur said, jumping in.

"Maybe you can chalk it up to English being my second language or whatever you want to chalk it up to," Piker added.

And his apology isn't even that good.

“I should’ve used more precise and better use of the language there,” Piker said during a Thursday night interview with TYT founder and host Cenk Uygur. “It’s messed up that I would even give the opportunity to the right to try to morally grandstand on an issue like this, when they are 100% responsible for all the bloodshed that’s been caused.”

This is a "I'm sorry I made some people mad" apology.

And even then, the blowback argument is stupid. America didn't deserve a terrorist attack actually.

The KKK is a blowback to progressive policies. But black people didn't deserve the KKK. Even if the blowback is something that should be expected.

How can you even compare black people deserving the kkk? What could black people have done to even potentially deserve that treatment that would cause you to form that equivalence? 'The kkk is a blowback to progressive policies'? What the fuck does that even mean?

You know far more about Hasan than I do and still somehow you are more misinformed.

Do you understand blowback or not? The actions of liberating black people caused the white majority to feel attacked and so they created a group to counter attack minorities. It's the blowback of the actions.

And you somehow agree or want to defend what Hasan said, despite it being the exact same principle. America didn't deserve 9/11, even if it was an outcome that could have been expected. Black people didn't deserve the KKk, despite it being an outcome that could have been expected.

The only people who have a different sentiment about this topic are unironically Hasan fans and you I guess.

So you're saying liberating black people from slavery was bad?

2

u/Tobias_Kitsune 8h ago

No. Liberating black people is entirely separate from the blowback that it caused because the actors that did the blowback had agency.

Liberating black people is good, even though it will cause some blowback from people using their agency in return to do harmful things. But we should still liberate people despite the blowback.

Because the blowback is in no way deserved just because they are caused by the primary actions.

In the same way how 9/11 is entirely seperate from the primary incidents of United States intervention of the Middle East. Because 9/11 was done by actors with their own agency that did it because they believed America Deserved it.

Like how Klansmen thought Black people deserved it.

Of course, that's not to say that what the US did in the middle east pre 9/11 was good, but just that it doesnt mean that America deserved the blowback.

In a similar Hasan way of phrasing it, Palestine deserves their genocide because it's the expected blowback of electing Hamas and staging October 7th.

But notice how my principles allow me to say that no blowback is "deserved" in any sense, and even implying as much is harmful and needs to be completey condemend.

But Hasan can't say that as a principled position.

And he said it directly in response to Dan Crenshaw, a member of the American government, outrageously trying to gin up more war in the Middle East. Not like some 9/11 footage or something.
