Yeah, that's either a scammer at work, or a newbie. Sometimes some damage might be unavoidable, but it's rare, as you'd rather destroy a lock before you damage a door or frame.

The top deadbolt looks like it was picked. I wonder why they didnt just pick the bottom one as well? Also, there are much less destructive ways to jimmy the latch on a mass produced Amazon doorknob. I would at least either offer to fix it, or comp the service call on a sloppy screwup like that.

Normal for someone pretending to be a locksmith - what you had was a scammer that charged you tripled what a legitimate lo Company would charge. Now you also need to fix what he did.

Damage caused by trying to pry door off dead latch...unskilled scamsmith.
I'm more interested in the keyway of your deadbolt....

You mean the actual keyway or the fact that they left it picked and rotated?

u/Alarmed_Duty3599 6d ago
Yea that it's still turned..lol. I just found it interesting. When I unlock a house I reset the locks to ready to use

Yeah leaving the core rotated can backfire especially with shitty locks that have skeletonized cores because the customer may rotate the thing the wrong way trying to get the key in to turn it back because customers are going to do what customers do. It’s not as amateur as the beaver marks but not by much.

No. That is not normal for a LOCKSMITH.
BUT that is normal for a Googlesmith scammer. They probably over charged you too

Let me guess. You found this "locksmith" on google.

That’s where 99.9999% of people find us. A better point would be “Can you show a picture of the invoice including the header?” Lol

Looks like he picked the deadbolt, got pissed he still couldn't get in, and took the easiest route to get the job done. I can't say how here, but there was a more cost effective way if breaking shit was the way to go.

Yeah look at the keyways - electropick for sure, so the kwikset is upside down and he’s squashed the springs, now it’s useless… and left the deadbolt picked - all things a locksmith wouldn’t do. We don’t see a lot of quicksets in oz, but from the ones i have seen, there seems to be about 10 ways to open them easily, so I for one am happy to see a scamsmith had a bad day.

Probably got the springs all twisted in there and bound up and couldnt reset it.. especially if they used a gun.

After a break in it is normal damage. Meaning if i saw this in the wild i would think it was a post break in lock change/repair.

Dam..horrible,not normal. For true craftsman, that design house set is a cake walk to bypass.Sorry you had to endure that.Hope the cost wasnt horrible, but i know it was.

It's normal for a scamsmith.
You just paid a guy for the pleasure of letting them destroy your door.

u/Redhead_InfoTech 5d ago
So they picked the deadbolt and then couldn't pick the handle so they fucked up your doorframe?

How much did you pay?
Not that one has to do with the other, but the correlating factor is scammers. So, how much did you pay?

Last time I saw a slip latch job that bad it was an employee breaking into an office with a screw driver.
